Lessons Learned
• Don’t be wedded to existing ways of doing things
• Start with major goals and find strategies and tactics to implement them
• Finding key employees ready and able to try new ways of doing old jobs IS key.
• Cross-training was key to implementing final solutions. Removing jobs from the straitjacket of traditional, one-size-fits-all Civil Service classifications is difficult and sometimes ardurous but is crucial to success
• Do not stint on training and take the time to make sure it’s done right
