2016 Giveaway Contest: CLOSED, Winners Announced! -Venture Outdoors

Congratulations to the winner of our #BMFF_PGH People’s Choice Contest!The winner of our giveaway is Sue Flaherty, who chose Living Rivers. She and a guest will attend theSaturday screening of the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour in Pittsburgh!

Living Rivers There is a new and emerging river surfing scene in Montana.

The film that received the most votes was Women’s Speed Ascent! It will air on the Sunday screening ofthe Banff Mountain Film Festival.

Women’s Speed Ascent Mayan Smith-Gobat and Libby Sauter knew that the women’s speed record for the ascent of The Nose onEl Cap was theirs for the taking. Crushing the old record after just a few days of attempts, Mayan and Libbyput their names in the record book of the infamous route in the Yosemite National Park.

The festival is coming up quick and tickets are still available! Join us at the Carnegie of Homestead MusicHall on Saturday April 2 at 7 PM and Sunday April 3 at 5 PM for an evening packed with adventure,camaraderie, and fun.

Millions of people visit the nine Allegheny County Parks and most of them don’t know what they’remissing. Bruce Cridlebaugh will be leading the Allegheny County Park Series. Each adventure is avigorous 10-mile loop hike that showcases the park’s less-traveled areas. Discover isolated and over-looked places. Connect with the trail less traveled; climb to the unexpected vista. These hikes rangefrom April 3 until June 26, 2016.



“I’m always curious and want to know the context of why a place is as it is – how things fit together –to find new things even in what we thought was already familiar,” Bruce said.

I consider myself a street photographer, so when I started volunteering as a photographer for VentureOutdoors, I couldn’t believe my luck. Specifically, my primary job with Venture Outdoors is to tagalong with trip leaders on various events and attempt to capture in photographs what people see andexperience as they explore some of Pittsburgh’s most fabulous outdoor venues, which pretty muchdefines what a street photographer does.

I visited the Beerfest at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center on February 27, 2016 to trydifferent kinds of beer. With over 100 breweries and 300 craft beers available to try, it was hard todecide which ones I wanted try first. Everyone has a different preference with beer – there are Ales,Lagers, Stouts, Porters, and Malts. Personally, I like light beers, and it’s a plus if the beer has a hintof a fruit flavor to it. There were many local Pittsburgh breweries in attendance such as Fatheads,Church Brew Works,

Some places are hard to get to, and that can be a good thing. Isle Royale is one of those places. Theisland is 894 square miles of rock – granite and veins of copper; and water – cold, deep LakeSuperior. A rugged place to live and explore – the big island and the 450 surrounding smaller islands



make up Isle Royale National Park, a designated National Wilderness and international biospherereserve.

I arrived at the ferry terminal at 6:00 a.m. just in time for breakfast at a local diner.
