This is no longer true. In the last few decades through individual testing, we have found that everyone has some significant heavy metal or environmental toxin present and that >95% have at least one toxic overload that is well beyond what is considered safe by any standard.

CNN January 16, 2016 Flint , MI- CNN reports this is one of the nations most toxic places. Water supply was from the Great Lakes, now to save money it comes from the Flint River, a source of some of the most corrosive water in the nation. WATER TREATMENT: IS TAP WATER SAFE? Chlorine and other water treatment chemicals (somewhat toxic by themselves),

react with ordinary organic particles in the water (manure from livestock, dead animals, fallen leaves, etc.) to create 100’s of extremely toxic byproducts which are not monitored or regulated at all. Although Chlorine has been studied extensively. Chloramine, now used in place of chlorine has not EPA regulates only 9 of 600+ known pollutants generated by chlorine or chloramine treatment DBP’s are 1000X more toxic than chlorine!

The health effects of breathing the vapors and having contaminated water on your skin are unknown at this time. DBPs can’t be removed by boiling, distilling or evaporation. Trihalomethanes (THMs) – causes cancer in lab animals, triggers free radical production in the body, associated with bladder cancer and gestational and developmental problems Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) – lead to central nervous system depression and drowsiness. Can irritate skin and mucous membranes Haloacetic Acids (HAAs) –Probable human carcinogen associated with neurological problems, growth retardation, low birth weight and sperm toxicity. Liver disease in test animals.

Pregnant women and unborn babies are at grave risk. Possible problems include: developmental/reproductive abnormalities, stillbirth, miscarriage, low birth weight, neural tube defects (developmental problems with baby’s brain and spinal cord). ©

OTHER CHEMICALS IN THE WATER SUPPLY Pharmaceutical drugs – including pain relievers, cancer

drugs, antidepressants, oral contraceptives, BP meds and cholesterol drugs.

Glyphosate (Roundup) – carcinogenic in small amounts, linked to over 20 adverse health effects including cancer, birth defects and infertility.

MTBE (Methyl-tert-butyl Ether) – a chemical added to fuel to raise the octane number; a potential human carcinogen at high doses.

Atrazine – According to FLOW, this is the most common water contaminate in the US. A known endocrine disrupter known to feminize animals and is linked to many reproductive issues and breast and prostate cancer.

Hexavalent Chromium (Chromium-6) – a probable carcinogen and found in 89% of cities sampled.

COMMON ENDOCRINE DISRUPTORS Bisphenol-A (BPA): easily leaches into food and water. Found in:

polycarbonated plastics (food and drink containers, bottle cap liners, lining of tin cans, toys, baby bottles, dental sealants, flame retardants, plastic wrap). 85% of canned foods on the shelves today are lined by the manufactures

to prevent a metallic flavor in the food from the can. Food from the cans of 10 of those companies tested were found to contain up to 80 parts per billion. This is 27 times greater the amount researchers need to cause breast cancer.

Phthalates: added to plastics to make them softer and more flexible. They have “extended” staying power. Found in: plastic bags, food packaging, water bottles, detergents, children’s toys, shower curtains, soaps, shampoo, perfumes, hair spray, nail polish, IV tubing, vinyl floors, glues, ink, pesticides.

Parabens: used as preservatives in cosmetics, food and pharmaceutical products. Found in many solid tumors at high concentrations. May be a carcinogen.

COMMON ENDOCRINE DISRUPTORS Dioxin: the general name for 100’s of chemicals

that are highly persistent in the environment. An unintentional byproduct of many industrial processes involving chlorine such as waste incineration, chemical and pesticide manufacturing, pulp and paper bleaching.

Small molecules are diffused into the atmosphere then land on the soil where they are eaten by soil microbes. From there, they work their way up the food chain. Transmitted through breast milk, dairy products,

meat and fish. We receive 90% of our dioxin exposure through food.

COMMON ENDOCRINE DISRUPTORS Pesticides and Herbicides: especially atrazine, simazine,

heptachlor and other organophosphates and organochlorines have been found the be toxic to the nervous system and reproductive systems of humans. Also contributes to developmental defects.

Heavy Metals: Cadmium and arsenic endocrine disruption has been studied, and endocrine disruption has been indicated in relation to lead and mercury exposure. More studies are underway.

PBDE’s: A persistent organic pollutant (POP). Stored in: animal fats. Found in: dairy products, meat, fish, human breast milk; flame retardants used on furniture, curtains, mattresses, carpets, TV's and computer castings. Banned in several countries.

PCB’s: Banned from new products since 1976. Highly stable and degrade very slowly. (POP). Mixed with adhesives, inks, paints, dyes and a component of plastics. ©

ESTROGEN DOMINANCE: MEN AND WOMEN The body’s ability to detoxify estrogen and testosterone levels depends

on the liver’s detoxification capability. A healthy liver rapidly breaks estrogen down into more benign forms

of it’s metabolites. Isoflavones (from soy, kudzu, flax seeds) support P450 1A1 & 1A2

detoxification, converting estrogen into less harmful metabolites. (C2) P450 3A4 & P450 1B1 promote conversion of estrogens to harmful

estrogen metabolites (C4 & C16). In the case of zinc deficiency, testosterone not processed by the liver is

converted to estrogen. Use of Nettle Root extracts can be used to block androgen conversion to estrogen.

Help with Estrogen Detoxification: Eat a healthy high fiber, high fat diet rich in vegetables, seeds and

other digestible protein foods Establish normal BMs Take in foods rich in Indole-3-carbinol such as cruciferous vegetables:

bok choy, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, kohlrabi, mustard, rutabaga, and turnip

MOST TOXINS ARE LIPOPHILIC CHEMICALS (LC)

Our tissues are warehouses of all the chemicals we’ve ever been exposed to.

LC love fat and accumulate in our fat, especially inside fat cells.

LC are not easily detoxified and may be stored for decades.

Most LCs are able to cross the placenta and reach a growing fetus. They are also likely to turn up in cord blood and breast milk.

Do not assume that just because a chemical is on the market, that it has been tested for safety in humans. The majority of chemicals available have very little to no testing done to verify their safety.

The government is just beginning to look into researching chronic chemical exposure.

PHASE 1 DETOXIFICATION Nutrients to support Phase I:

WHEN TO CONSULT WITH A PRACTITIONER Symptoms you have now may worsen before

they get better during a detoxification. If this happens, stop the detox and get help.

We strongly encourage anyone with a known heavy toxic load to work with a knowledgeable health care practitioner from the very beginning. When an individual has a large heavy metal or
