TRANSCRIPT
2016
As we come upon these last two months of school, I reflect back on the abundance of
happy memories and exciting opportunities presented to our community throughout the
year. These next 8 weeks promise to be equally engaging for our students.
May is a busy month for school activities and curriculum enhancing fieldtrips and class
presentations. Our grade 6 students will be writing their Provincial exams and every class
is very busy preparing for the end of the year.
We hope to see you at our Me to We Market on Friday, May 13 (from 2:00 to 7:00 PM).
Help us make a difference for children in the world by raising funds for Free the Children.
Tell your friends and come ready to buy some delicious baked goods prepared by our
students and peruse the many vendors who have rented a table. This is the fourth year for
our market and the grade 6 students are working very hard to ensure it’s another huge
success. Please contact the school if you would like to rent a table for $25.
I would personally like to thank the Blessed Mother Teresa School community for their
support, kindness and friendship. I will always look back on my four years at BMT with
great love and appreciation. BMT is a jewel of a school because of the people who call it
their own, I will miss you all dearly.
May God continue to bless each of you abundantly in his love and mercy.
Sincerely,
Mme Laviolette
We wish all mothers a lovely day on Sunday, May 8th.
God Bless

CATHOLIC COMMUNITY OF CARING
MARIAN CELEBRATION:
Our Marian Celebration will be on Friday, May 6 at 9:30 AM. Mme Erin’s grade 1EH and M. Paulo’s grade 4PG classes are preparing this celebration. Please join us in the gym; it is always so wonderful to have parents share these events with us.
SACRAMENTS RECEIVED IN APRIL:
The following students of Blessed Mother Teresa School have recently celebrated the following sacraments. Congratulations to: First Communion: Timeshi D. First Reconciliation: Sarah E. Trent M.
Please pray for them as they continue their Catholic faith development. Please inform us if your child/children received or are receiving sacraments this year at St. Patrick’s, St. Albert the Great, St. Bonaventure or in another parish. We wish to include everyone in our year-end celebration recognizing faith development.
SANDWICH DAY:
Our students successfully made 2684 sandwiches for the Calgary Drop in Center and we collected $1080 as a donation. BMT community can be very proud of the difference we were able to make for our Calgary community. Beautiful example of mercy and love. WTG, BMT!
BLESSED MOTHER TERESA CHOIR SINGING AT HISTORY FAIR:
The Calgary and Region History Fair Program has invited the BMT Choir to sing for their annual fair. The choir will perform for the second time outside of the school on Saturday, May 14, 2016. We have been asked to sing two French songs and one English song. The choir will be singing with Rob Lennard his famous songs Rouleauville and Cowboy Trail. The Aerospace Museum address is 4629 McCall Way NE and the choir will be performing at approximately 11:45 AM and it would be great if they arrive around 11:15 to get organized. The Calgary and Region History Fair program is part of the Heritage School Program, a national program that had over 50,000 students participate in 2015-2016 years. CALGARY CATHOLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT MONTHLY NEWS
ConnectionsMAY 2016
Budget UpdateWe have received the 2016–2017 provincial budget and are pleased that education continues to be a priority for this government. We understand that these are challenging economic times for our prov-ince so we appreciate that our base grants remain unchanged and that the government will continue to fully fund enrollment and growth. Read the full statement on our website under News.
ThoughtExchange UpdateWe recently invited our school communities to share their thoughts about what we’re doing well and where we can improve. We then invited our community to review and prioritize the thoughts of oth-ers by placing stars next to the ideas that were most important to them. Our goal was to get a sense of shared values and priorities from our schools and community. We’re excited to report that we had 10,267 individuals respond. Participants shared 18,106 thoughts and assigned 600,288 stars to their top priorities from across the district. Read the full story on our website under News.
New District Website & School Websites UpdateYou may have noticed that our revamped district Internet site went live on April 13, 2016. Each week until the end of the school year, new school websites will continue to go live as well. We hope you enjoy the upgraded look and feel of the new sites, as well as the enhanced user-friendly communica-tion and search tools, intuitive navigation and adaptability to mobile devices.
Diploma Preparation Courses – June 2016Diploma preparation courses will be offered to students and the general public in June 2016. The cost of each course is $75 for 12 hours of instruction. These courses are taught by teachers with extensive experience preparing students for diploma exams and will help review specific curriculum that may ap-pear on an exam, as well as offer insight into the diploma test-taking process. For more information or to register, please visit our website under Students/Academic Support/Diploma Preparation Courses.
Calgary Catholic Education Foundation UpdateThe Calgary Catholic Education Foundation (CCEF) has shared three new success stories to their website. Learn more about how their grants helped fund robotics at St. Mark School, off-site experi-ences at St. Wilfrid School and a student fitness room at Our Lady of Lourdes School. Visit their website at https://theccef.ca.
My 1st Ride Program for Kindergarten Students“My 1st Ride” is a free annual orientation program to educate parents and kindergarten students about riding the school bus safely. There will be a presentation and a short ride on a school bus, as well as a certificate presented to new riders. Staff from CCSD and bus companies will be available to an-swer questions. The program runs on Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29, 2016 and takes approxi-mately one to one and a half hours. Please visit our website under News to learn more and register.
Celebrate Education Week: May 2 – May 6, 2016During the annual Education Week, our district celebrates public education and the important role that education plays in building our society. This year’s theme is “We Are Teachers.” Education Week was established more than 75 years ago to call attention to the importance of education and to show the public some of the great things happening in Alberta schools. Learn more on our website under News.
Did you know?
On Thursday, April 7, the Campus Calgary/Open Minds pro-gram held an event to celebrate reach-ing 100,000 Calgary Catholic and Calgary Board of Education students! The pro-gram started with one site, Zoo School at the Calgary Zoo in 1993, and now has 11 sites around the city where students can experience a week of hands-on learning in the community.
