The Columbus State University Diversity Forum’s mission is to provide a significant opportunity for the University and the Columbus community to beneficially interact through the introduction, education and celebration of various diversity initiatives. The Diversity Forum is a combination of the annual Legacy Celebration and Diversity Conference, showcasing professional and experienced keynote speakers, who are advocates of diversity issues, and providing participants with often new information and perspective. The Legacy banquet recognizes outstanding diverse individuals or groups that have had a major impact on diversity while at the university or in the community, while the Diversity Conference provides a series of breakout small-group sessions designed to stimulate productive discussions on a wide array of diversity topics. The Diversity Forum ex-perience ensures insightful dialogue, an exchange of information, a representation of diverse groups and ideas, revelations concerning issues and situations and an opportunity to search for strategic and new ways to combat problems or enhance programs related to the growth of a culturally diverse campus community.

Columbus State University’s annual Diversity Forum is scheduled for March 2016 atthe Cunningham Center. The 2016 Diversity Forum was a huge success with over 300 attending!
Pulitzer Prize winner Jose Vargas, the keynote speaker, was absolutely riveting in speaking about immigration to the U.S. The evening also highlighted and recognizedCSU students for their academic achievement and valuable contributions to better understanding each other.
This was truly an evening to celebrate the broad cultural diversity represented at CSU and in in the community.
The attendees heard and engaged in lively discussions on topics ranging from poverty in the Columbus area to diversity in the corporation (Aflac) to social and economic injustices in America.
Our goal for the 2016 Diversity Forum is to attract 350 attendees over the two day period.

The concept of diversity encompasses acceptance and respect. It means understanding that each individual is unique, and recognizing our individual differences. These can be along the dimensions of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, or other ideologies. It is the exploration of these differences in a safe, positive, and nurturing environment. It is about understanding each other and moving beyond simple tolerance to embracing and celebrating the rich dimensions of diversity contained within each individual.
