CEO Shadow Program

The CEO Shadow Program is an exciting and unique opportunity open to NAWIC members who aspire to become an industry leader.

The program involves shadowing a current industry leader and watching them in action for a full day, providing a real and genuine reflection of the role.

The aim is to demystify the role of the CEO and inspire more women to keep striving for appointment to senior leadership positions.

The high profile and well-respected individual leaders who have committed their time and energy to this project include:

CEO Shadow Program

Participant Introduction – Monday 19th September 6-8pm Wisdom Learning 1/49 Laverton Ave, Canberra Airport

The participant introduction will be the ‘meet and greet’ of the program. Wisdom Learning will also deliver - a compact session on Leadership and outline the objectives of the Shadow Day

Shadow Day – Date to be decided by the CEO and Shadow

There is no set format to the Shadow Day. The intention is that the Shadow will spend a full day with the CEO to gain an appreciation of the activities, meetings, issues, problems faced on an “average” day by someone in a senior position in a company.

Program Graduation and Reflection – Tuesday 25th October 6-8pm Wisdom Learning 1/49 Laverton Ave, Canberra Airport

Delivered by Wisdom Learning, the CEO and Shadow will be asked to complete a reflection questionnaire, as well as share their experiences and lessons learnt in an open discussion.

Program closing – TBA

The program will be closed with a brief presentation by the co-ordinators, as well as a drink to say thank you to all involved. A Certificate of Participation will be presented.

Kim Sinclair

Kim Sinclair was appointed CEO of CHC Affordable Housing in June 2015 after serving as CFO, Company Secretary and Deputy CEO in the preceding eight years.

As CFO and Deputy CEO for CHC, Kim was instrumental in driving several initiatives including obtaining and maintaining ongoing certification as Tier 1 Affordable Housing Provider under the National Regulatory System for Community Housing (NRSCH), improving internal business processes and reporting and overseeing certification of ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Systems. Over the 2008 -2012 period, the company achieved a turnover increase of 1000% and a 3700% surplus and delivered a number of new developments projects within the ACT - including the largest residential development undertaken by a single not-for-profit entity.

Kim has over 35 years of experience across New Zealand and Australia - with expertise spanning financial management, operations, human resource and corporate services.

Kirk Coningham

Executive Director Master Builders Association ACT

Previously Kirk was ‘Chief of Staff’ to the CEO of global construction and mining services group Leighton Holdings.

His diverse experience includes working as a journalist, an Army officer and as a senior diplomat with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He has also worked with three Cabinet level Ministers in the Federal Parliament and held senior roles with the Australian Federal Police, Medicare Australia and the Australian Medical Association.

Kirk holds a Master of Arts degree in Foreign Affairs and Trade (Monash) and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications (Deakin). Kirk was awarded a Medal in the Order of Australia (OAM) for his work with families, government and the media during the 2002 Bali Bombs crisis.

He speaks Indonesian and is the author of a best-selling book of fictional short stories.

Carmen O’Keefe

Sharing her time time between the Australian Army and her new business venture, RIGA Precast Pty Ltd, Carmen brings a dynamic business strategy to both Army's Modernisation initiatives and RIGA Precast, leveraging from her extensive contractual and strategic business management background.

Pitched as a new business initiative to the ACT Chief Minister in February 2015, RIGA Precast has since established an 1800sqm manufacturing facility in Queanbeyan and employs a growing team of 11 tradesmen.

Carmen's business partner, Gavin Reid, works to develop RIGA’s product, delivery and installation standards to quickly become Canberra’s preferred precast supplier. Balancing her 3 children and her rewarding role with the Army Headquarters, Carmen is thoroughly enjoying the challenges faced from forming a precast concrete company in the ACT building and construction industry.

Carmen is fast realising her passion for Canberra’s development and future growth.

Graciete Ferreira

General ManagerPacific Formwork

Currently Graciete is the General Manager for Pacific Formwork, the family business, which she helped start in 1998.

Today Pacific Formwork has over 100 direct employees and more than 50 subcontractors, with projects in NSW, ACT and QLD.

Graciete is the chair for Master Builders Subcontractors Group and sits on the board of the MBA, DIF, and the Training fund Authority.

Glenn Carter

Chief Executive OfficerTraining Fund Authority

Glenn has held this position with the Authority for almost three years, and was previously employed with Canberra Institute of Technology as a Director of Building and Environment

Glenn has held various positions in management roles associated with registered training organisations and has worked directly and indirectly in the training and skills development sector since 1992, specialising in the construction and related training.

Glenn first commenced his career in building having left school to become a Carpenter and worked in Sydney for a number of large builders undertaking project management and technical estimating nationally and internationally before relocating to Canberra in 1997.

Fiona Doherty

DirectorRider Levett Bucknall

Fiona is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor (FRICS & FAIQS) with over 27 years’ experience, holding senior management positions for the last 12. She is currently a Director of Rider Levett Bucknall in the ACT. Fiona has worked in all areas of the property and construction industry.

She combines an excellent understanding of the most economic ways to achieve project outcomes with creative problem solving abilities and well-honed people management skills.

Fiona is the recipient of the NAWIC ACT Crystal Vision Award (2011) and AIQS Infinite Value Awards Professional of the Year and Women in Construction (2014). She is also a member of the PCA Diversity Committee. Fiona has a passion for promoting diversity in Property and Construction to highlight the importance and benefits of inclusiveness in organisations.

Tony Holland

CEOOzHelp

Tony currently leads a team passionate about the mental health and wellbeing of men in the workplace. OzHelp operate in the ACT, regional NSW, NT and the Pilbara in Western Australia.

The OzHelp team of field officers, nurses and counsellors work to prevent suicide through education, training and support in the workplace.

Tony has been CEO of OzHelp for over 5 years.

Program Details

The six Mentees will be selected with a ‘best in class’ approach where all applicants will be assessed and the most suitable candidate for each position will be selected.

To submit an application please apply online by providing goals, achievements, career planning and progression aspirations. After which the program coordinators will review the applicants, shortlist, and interview.
