It doesn’t seem possible that we are about to wel-
come the class of 2028 to the halls of St. Joseph
School for the first time at their Roundup. I wonder
what those wonderful Ursuline sisters in 1890 would
have thought if they had contemplated the year
2028?
Kindergarten Roundup will be held from 12:30 to 2:00 on Wednesday, Febru-
ary 24th. In order for the newbies to have full access to Mr. Kreifels and the kin-
dergarten room, the current kindergarteners will be dismissed at 11:30 that day;
therefore, they will not have lunch at school. Parents need to make arrangements
to pick up their students at that time.
Students who have not attended Little Angels Preschool will need to present
their birth certificates on or before the first day of school next fall. All kindergar-
ten students will need to have had a physical exam which must include a visit to
the dentist and the eye doctor. It’s a good idea to get those visits scheduled now to
avoid the summer rush.
Remember, the cutoff birthday for kindergarten this year is July 31, 2010.

There's no place like St. Jo-
seph Catholic School for our chil-
dren, and there is no place like
home for our annual Pot O' Gold
event. Please join us at the Hol-
thus Convention Center on March
19, 2016 for an evening of food,
fellowship, and fundraising for
our school. Prepare yourself for a
fantastic prime rib dinner catered
by Kerry's and check out the
many valuable items up for bid on
our silent and live auctions. All
the proceeds from the event go
directly toward making capital
improvements at our school. We
hope to see you there!

Kindergarten Roundup is Feb. 24th
Catholic Schools Week is on the way! This year we are celebrating our students past
and present! With this in mind we have invited several groups from YHS to come and
help us celebrate. Current students will have the opportunity to interact with former stu-
dents in the YHS band, Dukes and Duchesses, on the speech team, and in the animal lab.
It will be a great chance for students to see how active they can be in high school!
We will also be celebrating our students’ intelligence, ingenuity, and athletic abilities
during the week. We will be saying thank you for parish support with coffee and rolls
after the 8:00 Mass to kick off the week. Later in the day, families are invited to come
play on our new gym during the Family Fun Night from 4-6 pm. The fun and celebration
continues as we cheer on our students during the Geography Bee on Monday. A speech
contest and music bee will be held on Tuesday. On Wednesday, our artistic talents will
be put to the test with an art project competition. On Thursday, everyone just gets to have
fun and meet some amazing animals at the petting zoo at the high school animal lab.
Finally on Friday, students will show off their performing talents during the traditional
class skits-a favorite activity for many, students and staff alike!
Throughout the week the students will also focus on why they are at St. Joseph School,-
their faith. This will begin at Masses this weekend. Students will be greeting parishioners
as they enter church and will carry up gifts at mass. This continues during the week with
different grades working together for Masses. Thank you for your continued support of
our school and helping us celebrate our amazing students!!!!

Parent/Teacher Conferences
Students of the Month.
Congratulations to Carter and Jacob for being
outstanding students of the month in January.
100th Day of School!!
January 25th was the 100th day of School. That’s a pretty big deal
for Kindergartners! The kids read several books and did activities
that had to do with the
100th Day. The kids got
to see what they might
look like when they are
100 and they each
brought in a collection of
100 things.
Edgerton Science Museum
The Kindergarten Class recently went to the Edgerton Science Mu-
seum in Aurora. The Edgerton Science Museum has some great
hands- on science activities for kids to work with. They even did
two different science experiments with our class; one was about
bubbles and the other was about freezing temperatures. The kids
had a really good time.
Kindergarten News
2nd Grade learn about MLK history The 2nd graders have been learning about Dr. Martin
Luther King in Social Studies. We read about his “I
Have a Dream” speech and about his life. We also read
about Ruby Bridges, which is an AR book, and an old
newspaper article on Rosa Parks. The children were
very surprised to learn about how many people were
treated simply because of their skin color. To finish
the end of the MLK lesson, the children colored pic-
tures of Dr. King and
wrote some suggestions
in a circle of hands on
ways that we can treat
everyone equally. Their
poster is hanging in the
school hallway to remind
others of the Golden
Rule.
The spring Parent/Teacher Confer-
ences will be held on Thursday, Febru-
ary 18th, beginning at 1:00 p.m. and
continuing until 7:00p.m. Conferences
in grades K-5 will be scheduled and
the times sent home. School will be
dismissed at noon to accommodate the
conferences. There will not be trans-
portation home or Shamrock Club that
day. There is no School on Friday the
19th.
The 5th graders are again participating in the Trout in
the Classroom Program sponsored by the Nebraska
Game and Parks Department. On Wednesday, January
13th, the class received around 150-200 trout eggs to
take care of until the end of the year. They started
hatching on Friday the 22nd . Some of the students
(and Mrs. Geiger) even got to see one come out of its
shell! The fish will continue to grow and get bigger
until May, when the students will take them to the
Ak-Sar-Ben
Aquarium to
be released
with the fish
from last year!
