LOCATIONCarolina Day School, 1345 Hendersonville Road, Asheville, NC. We are approximately three miles south of Biltmore Village on Route 25. We can also be reached from the Blue Ridge Parkway, Exit Route 25 North.

REGISTRATIONTo register, go to our website at www.carolinaday.org. Spaces cannot be held without receipt of camp fee. Camps fill quickly, so early registration is highly recommended. Camps reaching maxi-mum enrollment will be closed.

REGISTRATION DISCOUNTSEarly Registration Enroll and pay in full by April 13th, and receive a 10% discount on all camps.

GRADE LEVEL/AGE RANGESThe grade level is determined by the grade the camper will be en-tering in the fall of 2016. Campers for rising pre-k should be four years of age by September 30, 2016. Summer Quest camps listed for grades K-5 or K-6 are split into age-appropriate groups.

PAYMENTPayment in full is due at the time of registration. Payment can be made with Visa, Mastercard, cash, or check. There is a returned check fee of $35.00.

REFUND/CHANGES POLICYRefunds are not given for absences. $75.00 of the tuition for each camper is non-refundable. For any change in registration, there will be a $25 fee. There are no refunds for withdrawls after June 1. If a camp must be cancelled due to low enrollment, a full refund is provided for the price of the camp.

HOURS & ARRIVALMost camps run from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Camp begins prompt-ly at 9:00 each day and ends at 1:00, 3:00, or 5:00, depending on the camps in which your children are registered. Please be aware that because of field trip plans, campers need to arrive on time and early dismissals may not be possible. Arrive ready for a fun day at camp between 8:50 and 9:00 each morning. Early care is avail-able from 8:00 to 9:00. Any camper arriving before 8:45 will be placed in early care, and parents will be billed accordingly. Camp-ers enrolled in Early Bird Camp may arrive as early as 8:00.

DEPARTURE Campers must be picked up within 10 minutes of the time their camp ends, with the exception of the High-Five Camp, which is over at 5:00. If campers are on campus after 5:00, parents will be billed at the rate of $1 per minute with a $10 minimum.

SNACKS AND LUNCHCamp will break for a morning snack around 10:00, and campers will eat lunch around 12:00. Please send a snack and a lunch with your child each day. Campers staying later than 1:00 may want to bring an additional afternoon snack.

SUNSCREEN and WATERCampers are responsible for applying their own sunscreen before camp each day. Campers must bring a full water bottle each day. They are out and about having fun and need to be able to take their water with them on their travels!

CHANGESThis brochure was printed several months before the start date of our summer programs. Due to the possibility of changes in teach-ers’ availability and enrollment levels, we reserve the right to make changes in the schedule when necessary. We will inform you of any changes before the program begins.

CAMPER CONDUCTCarolina Day School Summer Programs reserves the right to dis-miss, without a refund, any camper whose conduct we deem to be unsafe or inappropriate.

Camps Offered Multiple Sessions

AFTERNOON FUN CAMP Rising K-8Special Hours 1:00-3:00This camp is offered as a continuation of the morning program and is open only to campers enrolled in the 9:00-1:00 camp session. This after-noon camp is one big, non-stop adventure that you are definitely going to love. Your amazing counselors will lead you and your friends in the activi-ties for the day. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, you and the gang will enjoy crafts, music, drama, stories, trips to the park, exciting games, and more! On Tuesdays and Thursdays, learn to swim at the YWCA! You will have fun-filled swim lessons with certified Y swim instructors. This is a camp you will not want to miss, so reserve your spot now.

Magical Music Makers Rising Pre-KDo you love to sing, dance, and make music? Bring out your inner musician this summer with Magical Music! Join us for a week filled with exploring rhythm and beat, making and listening to a variety of instruments, dancing, singing, and enjoying many wonderful styles of music from around the world! Leader: Rebecca Rusch

Jump, Jive & Dance Quest Rising K-25, 6, 7, 8! This camp is all about creative movement in a playful camp environment. If you ever wanted to find out what dance is all about or if you already enjoy it, you will love what we will do together this week. We will concentrate on the study of ballet, creative movement, jazz, and hip-hop dancing. Dance, music, creative expression, and lots of fun will all be a part of our time together. By the end of the week, we’ll be ready to put all of these great dance techniques together into a performance for our families and friends! Leader: Cheryl Whitworth

Clay Play Art Rising K-3Do you love playing with clay? Would you like to learn how to make fun projects with clay like toys, magnets, and animals? What about bowls with your name embossed on the outside with stamping tools? Join us in the delightfully messy world of clay! Leader: Dana Havner

Nature Explorers Quest Special Hours 9:00 - 3:00 Rising K-5Do you love being outside? Do you enjoy exploring nature? Join us for a week of hiking, exploring, water play, games, and more! Bring a lunch to eat on the go, plenty of water, and an adventurous spirit! Leaders: Bob & Cathy Walters

Music Olympics Quest Rising 1-5Join the fun as we compete at CDS for this summer’s Music Olympics! This energizing class will have participants running, jumping, sing-ing, and moving their way to learn music. Throughout the week, music athletes will engage in Staff Gymnastics, Rhythm Races, a Terminology Triathlon and Interval Aerials. Get ready to set a new personal record for your musical growth! Leader: Meg McConnell

Star Wars Quest Rising 2-5Calling all Star Wars fans. This is the camp for you! Join us for a fun week of all things Star Wars. There will be Jedi Training, simulated combat, Star Wars trivia, some movie viewing, droid construction, and more. If you are a fan then you won’t want to miss this! Leader: Jake Southern

Comic Book Art Quest Rising 3-6In this camp, you’ll work on developing your drawing and inking tech-niques, and learn how to create characters, write dialogue and develop a basic storyline. You’ll participate in guided activities and fun drawing games, designed to advance your technical skills and show you how fun art can be! Time will be spent each day on a final project of your own design, which will be scanned and published in our own Carolina Day Comic Book. Everyone works at their own level pace, so both beginning and intermediate students are welcome. Join us for some comic fun! Leader: Martina Zinn

Leatherworks & The Art of Journaling Rising 4-9Create treasures in leather and experiment with new methods of sketch-ing and journaling! We will start the week focusing on assembling a leather-bound journal and decorating it to uniquely represent you. The remaining days of the week will include making other fun leather ob-jects such as pouches, cuffs, jewelry, and more. There will be time for practicing creative journaling and turning your handmade journal into a piece of expressive art using a variety of drawing and writing tools. We will study the words and drawings of successful journal artists to help inspire our practice of self expression. Leader: Kati Robbins

Learn to Babysit Exploration Rising 5-9Every successful babysitter has a few tricks up their sleeve to keep kids happy, healthy, and most of all entertained! You will complete an inter-active notebook filled with kid friendly snacks, learning activities by age group, engaging games, and more. We also cover topics child care professionals need to know such as how to build a resume, interviewing with potential families, how to find child care jobs, caring for children with special needs, and being a professional. This is a great time for strengthening babysitting skills and sharing experiences with other campers. Leader: Amanda Moss Edwards

Fight Like a Jedi Workshop Special Hours 9:00 - 3:00 Rising 9-12Enter the exciting world of stage combat with a nationally-certified instructor/choreographer. Using famous movie fights, participants will be introduced to different techniques, weapons, and fighting styles each day. Learn stage combat techniques used in the Star Wars films and per-form one of the fights by the end of the week. Leader: David Dvorsack

Special SAT and ACT Prep Classes Rising 10-12Within Reach Education, based in Atlanta, Georgia, will spend a week on the Carolina Day School campus teaching the most effective tips, tricks, and strategies to raise your SAT or ACT scores! You will not only practice valuable tools and concepts to earn as many points as possible, you’ll also have some fun within the dynamic learning environment fostered by highly experienced Within Reach educators, Morgan and Stephanie. Basic skills in math, science, reading, and English will be covered, but more importantly the structure and secrets of the two tests will be revealed. By the end of this five-day workshop, you will feel far more prepared for, and much less anxious about, your standardized tests! Little Hands Art Rising Pre-KBring out the artist in you! Get ready for a messy, fun, and creative week! You will make some very original art, play some artistic games, and even learn some artistic songs. If you like paint, crayons, or markers, this is the camp for you! Leader: Cathy Walters

Parks & Playgrounds Quest Rising K-2WNC has some of the most beautiful parks and playgrounds in the state, and this week we plan on visiting as many of them as possible. We’ll explore creeks, climb on structures, and swing and slide to our hearts’ delight. Wear play clothes and bring your water shoes as we experience a week of fun and excitement right in our own back yard. Leader: Jake Southern

Glitter Girls Quest Rising K-3Do you love all things pink and purple and glitter and glam? If so, thisis the place for you! We will spend the week painting pretty pictureframes, making your own colorful jewelry, glittery lip gloss, paintingour finger and toe nails, and adding your own personal pizzazz to all things! Join us for some sparkley, exciting and fabulous girl time! Leader: Martina Zinn

Pokemon Adventure Island Quest Rising 1-5Charizard or Charmeleon? Squirtle or Caterpie? Who is your favorite Pokemon? If you were heading towards an epic showdown, who would you want by your side? Wartortle or Pikachu? We will be creating our own Pokemon online, making origami Pokemon, building Pokemon out of Legos and even making Pokemon themed snacks! And, of course, we will be playing the Pokemon card game! Do you love all things Poke-mon? This is the camp for you! Come join us on Pokemon Adventure Island! Leader: Susan Rana

Colorful Clay Quest Rising 1-6Do you like to mold and create projects with clay? Have you tried mak-ing art with polymer clay? Whether you’ve experimented before or are a first timer, join us for a week of exploring the diversity and beauty of bright and colorful polymer clays! Your will learn valuable skills while making your own one-of-a-kind creations like beads, pendants, creatures and more! Leader: Kati Robbins

Sights & Streams: Nature Explorers Camp Special Hours 9:00-3:00 Rising 1-6If you love to spend time outdoors, hike, and play in natural water, this is the camp for you! We will explore, hike, and visit five different places, each with a spot to get wet and cool off in the summer heat. Bring snacks, lunch, water shoes, water, and a raincoat (just in case)! Make sure you wear your sunscreen and a bathing suit if you would like. Camp Leaders: David Broshar and Alicia Cardina

All About American Girl Doll Quest Rising 2-5This week will be all about you and your special doll! Bring your Ameri-can Girl doll to camp each day to play with you. We will make creative things for your doll to wear and so much more. We will even build a big house for all the the American Girls to live in!!! Join us for a week packed full of dolls, crafts, play, and friends! Leader: Patty Baer

Games Galore Quest Rising 4-7If you like to play, this camp is for you! We will play all kinds of group games like kick ball, knock out, relay races, racquet smack it, and Gaga ball. We will also have individual challenges like Minute-to-Win-It games, perplexors, and word search puzzles. This camp will keep you moving and laughing all week long. Creative Journaling Exploration Rising 4-8Journaling is a great way to become inspired, remember events, and be creative! Creative journaling goes beyond a “dear diary” approach to incorporate color, inspirational quotes, and different artistic methods. Campers will use this week to begin and build creative journaling skills that they can continue in their future. Art, writing, and great fun rolled into one week! Leader: Amanda Edwards

Page-to-Stage Workshop Special Hours 9:00 - 3:00 Rising 9-12A workshop in the creation and performance of original works of theatre. During the the first two days of our workshop, each participant in the group will write a ten minute play. The next two days each participant will direct one of the plays and act in another. The final day will be per-formances of all the plays. Learn about writing, directing, and perform-ing in various forms of theatre! Leader: David Dvorscak

Puppy Love Rising Pre-KGotta love dogs! If you have a dog or are a dog fanatic, please join us for a week all about cute pooches! We will learn about different breeds, made homemade dog treats and other crafts to pamper yourself and your pooch, and create doggie-themed art. Woof Woof! Leader: Patty Baer

Happy Hikers Camp Special Hours 9:00-3:00 Rising K-5In the heat of summer, there is no happier place than a natural pool of water! Join us as we hike and splash in a new water spot every day. To make the perfect camp experience, there will be games, storytelling, and even a little singing! Pack your bag with a nutritious lunch and snacks, plenty of water, quick drying clothes, and water shoes. Leaders: Cathy & Bob Walters

Reader’s Theater Quest Rising K-2Reader’s Theater is one of the most fun ways to read! We will perform short plays and practice using our voice to show our characters emotion and feeling. This camp will be great if you love to read, or even if you are not all that excited about reading! We will make small props, pup-pets, and other exciting things for our plays as well. All Sports Quest Rising 2-5Basketball, Soccer, baseball, football, frisbee and more! In this camp we will be learning and playing a wide variety of sports. Come join us as we learn about some of the lesser known international sports, and have fun with your friends as we compete and play in a fun and safe environment. Please bring a water bottle and tennis shoes and be ready for a great week of fun games and activities. Leader: Jake Southern

Knitting & Stitch Quest Rising 2-7Come join in learning how to do knitting, crocheting, sewing and cross-stitching. During this week, you will have the opportunity to learn basic techniques using yarn and thread to create unique art! You will learn how to knit a scarf or hat, sew a bag, cross-stitch a pattern and more. This is the perfect class for you if you enjoy hands-on activities, hanging out with new friends, and creating wearable art! Leader: Annie Jewett

Summer Soccer Rising 3-5Get ready for the fall soccer season with us! We’ll work on the funda-mentals of soccer through games that emphasize skill development. Dribbling, passing, trapping, shooting, and other ball control skills will be taught and reinforced using fun small-team games. Bring your own soccer ball, cleats, snacks, water, lunch and wear your sunscreen! Leader: Didier Rubio

New Dimensions-Sculpture Art Rising 3-9Join us for a week of building, twisting, folding, slipping and scoring as you explore different sculptural techniques! In this 3-dimensional art workshop you will be exposed to a variety of materials such as wood, wire, paper mache, and clay. You’ll experiment with and learn ways to successfully work with these materials as you create your own unique sculptural creations. Join in the dimension of fun! *We may use fired clay so some projects may need to be picked up the following week. Leader: Kati Robbins

Fun with Forts Rising 4-7We will spend the week outdoors constructing various types of forts in the CDS wilderness. Have you ever wondered how to construct a teepee or how to make a lean-to? Explore different ways to make shelters out of ordinary things that are all around us! Leader: Jairus Dolfi

Nature Crafts Exploration Rising 4-8Do you love nature and crafts? This is the camp for you! We will enjoy time outdoors gathering supplies for nature inspired crafts! Join us as we learn to make amazing things from the great outdoors! You will never look at a stick the same way again! Leader: Amanda Edwards

Hunger Games Exploration Rising 5-8Join the brave warriors of the thirteen districts as they prepare for the games through obstacle training. Each day will begin with battle training and survival skills and conclude with an obstacle course which must be conquered to be the sole survivor of the Hunger Games! Imagine your-self at Katniss Everdeen as we learn archery at Pisgah Wildlife Educa-tion Center! Leader: Julia Vaughan

Dr. Who Exploration Rising 5-9Quest through time as we learn about everyone’s favorite time traveler - The Doctor. Spend the week traveling through time and space, construct-ing a TARDIS, creating Time Lord fashion, running from aliens, and more! Get ready for Wibbly-wobbly Timey-wimey fun! Leader: Cyd Smith

Teen Trekking Special Hours 9:00 - 3:00 Rising 6-12If you are adventurous, this is the place for you! We will spend the week exploring the great places to hike that the Asheville area has to offer. We will go on hikes with scenic views, waterfalls, and the beautiful outdoors to enjoy. Bring plenty of water, snacks, lunch, and wear sturdy shoes. Leader: Bev MacDowell

July 4 - July 8

Animal Fun Art Rising Pre-KAre you an animal lover? If so, join in as we learn about different ani-mals from cats, horses, goats, tigers, and penguins as we create art! We will be making all sorts of animals creations including animal masks, animal paintings and more. Come unleash the animal within and have fun being creative with other animal lovers. Creek Explorers Rising K-2Discover the wonderful world of water and fun! You will travel to some watery spots for some wet adventures! Discover crawdads and salaman-ders and some other wonderful water critters. Wear clothes that can get wet and bring your water shoes as we experience a week of water fun and excitement. Leader: Jake Southern

Food Art Quest Rising K-5Do you love food? Do you love art? If so, this camp is the perfect opportunity for you to come have fun with friends, cook food, decorate food, make food sculptures, eat and make art inspired by food! Each morning we will make a different delicious, artful food and each after-noon we will create art inspired by food. Imagine cookie decorating, paper mache pizza making, cupcake painting, and fruit and vegetable sculptures! Leader: Annie Jewett

Asheville Splash Special Hours 9:00-3:00 Rising 2-5Cool mountain water is all over WNC. Please join us as we explore some great hiking trails and streams, some famous, some unknown. We will enjoy our lunch spread out on a warm rock next to a gurgling stream. Please bring a water bottle, water shoes, bathing suit, towel, a healthy snack, and lunch. Leader: David Broshar

Art-to-Wear Quest Rising 2-8Personalize your own unique self by creating art you can wear! This camp will be filled with fun activities like tie-dye, jewelry making, face painting, and more. We will explore a variety of ways to express our-selves with our wearable creations. Leader: Kati Robbins

Garage Band Experience Rising 4-101, 2, 3, 4 - Do you want to be in a garage band? Do you have some musi-cal skills? If so, this is the place for you. Bring your own instrument and we will join our talents together to create our own garage band! Leader: Didier Rubio

All About Tolkein Exploration Rising 5-8Tolkien campers will learn all about the lore-infused fantasy world and literary characters of one of the greatest authors of all time! Our adven-tures include learning archery skills (courtesy of the Pisgah Education Center), map making and cartography, exploring languages, and battling cunning orcs. we will recreate battles between Orcs and Elves and we transform CDS into middle Earth! July 11 - July 15

Pirate Adventure Rising Pre-KCalling all pirates and swashbucklers, adventure is awaiting! Aargh you ready for treasure hunting, pirate crafts, and to sail the “seven seas” at CDS? We are looking for brave and bold girls and boys for a fun week of adventure! Leader: Jairus Dolfi

Get Up and Play! Quest Rising K-2This is our most popular camp! You are going to have great fun this week while getting plenty of exercise playing super games. You will also have a chance to play on our super-sized water slide. Our games will emphasize sports skill development, but will also stress cooperation, peaceful competitive play, basic physical skills, and following diretions. Wear your tennis shoes, and be ready to get up and play with your ener-getic camp leader, Cathy Walters.

Squishy, Sqooshy & Squashy Quest Rising K-3A sensory extravaganza! Campers will experience the world of texturethrough making slime, sculpting with clay, marshmallows, and dough.We will be drawing in shaving cream and mud, and playing creativegames with balls, balloons, pom-poms, and more. Join us to squish andsquash! Join in the squishy fun! Leader: Martina Zinn

Let’s Go Hiking Quest Special Hours 9:00-3:00 Rising 1-5Asheville is a natural wonderland. Let’s get out and explore it! Comealong for an adventure while we hike and seek out natural water-playspots. Wear your water shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting wet or your bathing suit. Please bring healthy snacks, water, lunch, a towel, and wear your sunscreen! Leader: David Broshar

Girls Just Want to Have Fun Quest Rising 2-5Are you a girl that wants to spend a week having fun? If so, this is the camp for you. You will do all things girly and glamorous! You will create art using everything from pink fur to rhinestones. The week will include making girly crafts and jewelry and having a “spa” day. We’ll even have a dance party! Leader: Patty Baer

The Science & Magic of Harry Potter Special Hours 9:00 - 3:00 Rising 4-7Join the students of Hogwarts in a fun filled week of quidditch, magical adventures and activities. Test your spell prowess in a grand duel. We will create wands, test the sorting hat, test your Potter trivia and defeat the minions of you-know-who. Muggles need not apply! Leader: Julia Vaughan

Nature Art Quest Rising 2-6Be inspired by nature! We will balance our time between creating art outdoors, using natural materials in their natural environment, and col-lecting objects outdoors to create art with nature indoors. We will study nature artist Andy Goldsworthy’s work and we will create impermanent art such as earth mandalas, spirals, and fairy homes inspired by his work. We’ll use the natural items that we collect to create leaf prints, weavings, dreamcatchers, wreaths and more. Leader: Kati Robbins

Pinterest: Be Crafty Exploration Rising 5-8This is a camp dedicated to everyone who enjoys crafting! Inspired by Pinterest, you will spend each day completing a different craft or two. You can plan to make a painted canvas, coasters, a picture frame, painted rocks, a piece of jewelry and more! Leader: Amanda Edwards

Theatrical Collage Workshop Special Hours 9:00 - 3:00 Rising 9-12When the creativity of a writer aligns with the spontaneous receptive-ness of the audience, a joyous synchronicity elevates it to a work of art. This week will be spent using improvisation techniques to create an avante garde theatrical performance. Bravo! Leader: David Dvorscak

Super Superheros! Rising Pre-KCalling all Superheroes... Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a super power or to make a daring rescue? If so, then we needyou. Join the CDS Justice League this summer for an unforgettableweek! We will make superhero outfits, find and test your super powers,make your own comic, and save the city! Leader: Jairus Dolfi

So You Want to Be an Egyptologist Quest Rising 1-4What could be more exciting than a Quest all about mummies, Pyra-mids, and folklore that surround Ancient Egypt? We will learn how to write secret codes using Hieroglyphics, create Egyptian art, and turn each other into mummies. Appalachain Music Quest Rising 1-5We will travel back in time to the early 1900’s and explore the beauti-ful world of traditional music from Appalachia! You will learn about early American culture through playing instruments, singing traditional songs, dancing folk dances, learning history, hearing Appalachian Jack Tales, and playing old children’s games. You will even have the oppor-tunity to make your own folk music instrument and taste Appalachian cuisine! This camp is perfect for those who love to dance, sing, and use their imagination.
