From the Director:
It has been an honor to serve as the Director of the Adirondacks Speculator Region Chamber of Commerce this past year. I want to thank our President and the Board of Directors for their commitment and leadership during this period. It was a time of challenge, change and accomplishment, which makes us so excited to share with you our 2016 Annual Report. We had many highlights and wanted to take the time to show you what a busy year it was!
The Adirondacks Speculator Region Chamber of Commerce is very unique, in that we serve and support not only our businesses and organizations, but also tourists and visitors from around the world. This dual role has many inherent challenges, as we continue to help visitors enjoy our natural resources while encouraging them to patronize our diverse membership.
In 2017, our main focus will be to continue to build communication and collaboration within our communities and amongst our members. I am committed to working diligently with our volunteers, board of directors, elected officials, and our members to make our Chamber the most relevant, informative, and as impactful as possible, while providing quantifiable value to your business. I am here to work with you to make this area the best place to live, work and play! Sincerely,
Donna Benkovich Director

Events
Annual Membership Dinner:
The Annual Membership Dinner held in May had 46 attendees at The Inn. All who came enjoyed a great meal,
along with raffles and door prizes. Amy Germain gave a presentation on how members can utilize Social Media
to boost their presence and advertising. The 2015 Sarah B. Osborne Award was presented to The O’Brien
Family for their exemplary service to the community.
Annual Piseco Lake Triathlon:
The 31st Annual Piseco Lake Triathlon was held in July, and
participants numbered 107. The weather was perfect for the race,
and medals were awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in the
different categories. This race remains as popular as ever, as new
triathletes find it to be a great experience. Everyone enjoyed
refreshments donated by local businesses. We continue to have a
dedicated core of volunteers, whose hard work and dedication
continue to make this race possible.
Lane 10k Lake Run:
The 38th Lane 10k Lake Run was held in August. 48 runners
once again participated in “The TOUGHEST 10k in the
Adirondacks.” Our racers enjoyed a bountiful lunch donated
by Jonathan Lane as the awards were presented. It was a
beautiful day.
The Farmers’ & Crafters’ Market:
The Farmers’ & Crafters’ Market ran for 13 weeks last
summer. We had a total of 28 vendors, who sold their wares
to our ever growing customers. This year we added the
Chamber Table, where members were highlighted and
spotlighted. It was a huge success, as our local businesses
received a boost in business through the added exposure.
Annual Holiday Stroll:
The Annual Holiday Stroll was held on November 25, and was a true
‘community” event, with 23 local businesses participating for hundreds
of shoppers to enjoy. The afternoon’s highlights included Santa’s Visit,
the Community Tree Lighting, Victorian Carolers, a Food Drive for
Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry, and a drawing for a $100.00 ASRCC Gift
Certificate. Many merchants offered hot beverages and snacks to keep
the shoppers warm on that blustery evening.
Events
Chamber Mixers
This Fall saw the first edition of our ‘Chamber Mixers,’ where
members gathered to meet, mingle and network. Mixers are
sponsored by local businesses and are at no cost to business
members. We held 3 at local restaurants, with many members
attending and getting to know each other. We are looking forward
to many more mixers in 2017.
Our ongoing Community Alliance Meetings have been steadily gaining in popularity and attendance. These
informal meetings are meant to bring civic minded individuals to share ideas to better our communities, stay
informed, and enjoy coffee and camaraderie.
ASRCC Gift Certificates. Our Gift Certificates are welcome at all local businesses, and help keep our economy
stay strong by encouraging people to shop local. In 2016, we sold over 135 gift certificates.
Other Events and Activities the Chamber is involved in:
Annual Community Pride Day
“Shop Local” campaign (Saturday after Thanksgiving)
Cycle ADK rest stop
Career Fair / Teen Job Mart
Great Adirondack Garage Sale (Memorial Day Weekend, with ROOST)
Community Wide Garage Sale (September, Speculator to Morehouse)

In January of 2017, the Chamber of Commerce sent out a survey to all of its members to seek feedback about
their experiences with the Chamber. Here are their responses.

Have you attended a Chamber Mixer?
40% Yes 60% No
If you have not attended a Mixer, what would entice you to
attend?
Due to timing I cannot attend. I am also the only staff that is in the office and need to
stay here.
Normally, my available time is limited to mornings.
Conflict in schedule.
My reluctance to attend is mostly due to the 30 mile drive from my home in Indian
Lake.
Nothing, we don't live there yet so we will attend in the future.
If I lived closer
More people - More advance notice.
I'm just too far away
Schedule just hasn't aligned yet Responses
No my questions are always addressed by Donna on visits or email.
I'd like to see the website change, to make finding my business easier for customers.
Keep up the good work
I think the Chamber is on the right track. I think Donna is doing a great job. It is going
to take a while for it to show. Keep up the good work. I saw a change for the better
so I rejoined. It has been nice to be shared on social media.
Great job moving forward! I see good changes
Thank you for your service.
