FOREWORD

The UWI Learning and Development courses outlined on pages 10 – 15, are designed with

the aim of achieving the overall strategic goals of the University, as stated in the 2012/2017

Strategic Plan. The Human Resources Division’s mission is to recruit, retain and develop a

cadre of highly motivated employees, whose competencies fit the requirements of the job

and who can effectively contribute to the accomplishment of the strategic objectives of the

UWI.

UWI has identified five (5) core competencies. These are:

Client Focus

Continuous learning

Interactive Communication

Using Information Technology

Work Ethics and Values

The Human Resource Division objective is to ensure that all employees are equipped with

the aforementioned competencies to effectively perform their role. To assist us and by

extension yourself; in determining gaps in skills and knowledge we ask employees to

complete the Annual Personal Development Plan (refer to appendix 1) before participating

in workshops. This plan will assist the employees in identifying those areas in which further

development is needed.

Employees will also find the summary and objectives (refer to appendix III) for each

course being offered.
