In this, our 10th year of Concours du Soleil, we welcome you to our 2016 show, “Art that Moves.”

We had no idea when we began this adventure one September Sunday afternoon ten years ago that it would grow into a million-dollar fundraiser for our community. It is with sincere gratitude that we thank the Albuquerque Community Foundation for their important role in growing Concours du Soleil into the magnificent fund raising event that it is.

As you enjoy this year’s collection of beautiful automobiles, please consider why we are here. We share a vision for a more prosperous city. Our priority is to invest philanthropic funding into the economic growth of

our community. We firmly believe a “grow our own” mentality is the path to more jobs and that both business and skill development are the best ways for our community to grow and prosper. Summed up in a word – it is entrepreneurism. Entrepreneurism is the shortest road to building an economy from within by utilizing existing assets. There is no shortage of motivated and intelligent entrepreneurs in Albuquerque, from high-tech to home-grown kitchen table entrepreneurs, teenage entrepreneurs to seniors and veterans.

With the money raised in past years, we’ve supported nonprofit organizations that provide resources for entrepreneurs to increase their opportunities for success.

Some examples include: • Entrepreneurial Mindset Training - encouraging everyone,

regardless of age, background or circumstance to begin thinking like an entrepreneur

• Teen Start Up Camp - where young entrepreneurs compete with creative ideas, innovative business concepts and unbridled enthusiasm

• CNM’s STEMulus Center and Microsoft DigiCamps - We’ve already seen measurable results and have high expectations for the future.

Porsche developed a significantly worthy successor to the vaunted Carrera GT supercar, in the 918—and it’s a plug-in hybrid! With a combined 887 hp and 944 lb-ft of torque from its mid-mounted V-8 and electric motors—one at each axle—the 918 delivers Bugatti-like acceleration, tenacious handling, and a 211-mph top end. The Lamborghini Aventador Superveloce is a brazen exotic car designed to take center stage. It is brash, unreserved and charismatic while also being extremely well-made and gorgeous. It will reach 60 mph from a standstill in a mere 2.7 seconds, storm the quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds at 136 mph, and stop from 70 mph in 147 feet. It generates 1.04 g’s around the skidpad as if it is effortless. The engine cover, wing, air intakes, door panels, rear diffuser, and seat shells are all carbon fiber. For the Superveloce, the big change to the Aventador’s 6.5-liter V-12 is a freer-flowing exhaust. In combination with fresh calibrations for its variable valve timing and variable intake system, output climbs to 740 horsepower, up from the base car’s 691. Peak power is achieved 100 rpm below redline at a shrill 8400 revs. Torque remains 509 pound-feet at 5500 rpm.

1929 MODEL A PICK UPOwner: Irwin HarmsIn introducing the Model “A” Ford pickup, Henry Ford brought to the market the first closed-cab pickup.  This particular state-of-the-art vehicle sports modern innovations such as a safety glass windshield, roll up side windows and a three-speed transmission. This

workhorse is powered by a four-cylinder “L-Head” engine capable of producing 40 horsepower.  This model was specially ordered with the rare option of a hand-wound, built-in clock. Even today, 83 years later, you may see this machine at the home improvement store carrying materials for a weekend project.

1966 ASTON MARTIN DB6 COUPEOwners: Alberto & Julie GutierrezThis Aston Martin DB Coupe is powered by an inline, 3,995-cc 6-cylinder, dual-overhead-camshaft engine, with triple SU HD8 carburetors, producing 282 hp at 5,500 rpm. The DB6 has rack and pinion steering, 4-wheel, power-assisted, Girling disc brakes, a synchromesh, 5-speed ZF gearbox,

and a limited-slip differential. This car produces a distinctive and refined exhaust note while delivering impressive performance numbers for its time with a top speed of 150 mph and acceleration of 0-to-60 mph in 6.5 seconds. This DB6, one of 1,321 models built between 1965 and 1969, has a sleek, hand-built “Superleggera” aluminum body over a tubular chassis weighing 3,233 lbs. This car displays the original color scheme of Fiesta Red over Black leather.

2. Da Vinci: Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci was the epitome of a “Renaissance man” because he studied the laws of science, which greatly influenced his renowned paintings. We think this category embodies both the beautiful aesthetics and unmatched functionality that Leonardo himself could have been impressed with!

3. Georgia O’Keeffe: A southwest transplant, O’Keeffe enjoyed northern New Mexico as much as any native, capturing its beauty on her canvas. We wonder what she thought of our beloved “lowriders.”

4. Norman Rockwell: America’s most loved illustrator, Rockwell’s nostalgic work summed up the American Dream. A utopia where everything was simple, everyone was nice and kind – you could feel and taste the American spirit.In this category we showcase American originals.

5. The Rolling Stones: In 1962, one of the most successful and critically acclaimed rock bands of all time, the Rolling Stones started in London. We like to envision Mick Jagger driving around in one of our picks for this British car category!

6. Street Art: Sometimes called graffiti this art form has exploded in urban areas around the world transforming deteriorating neighborhoods and downtowns into visual works of modern art. This category features street art...that moves!

7. Beethoven: Overcoming his struggle with deafness and never-ending dedication to his musical talent, the long-lasting German-made Mercedes SL class embodies Ludwig van Beethoven’s unceasing spirit.

1969 FERRARI 365 GT 2+2Owners: Alberto & Julie Gutierrez365GT 2+2. Engine Specs: 320 bhp, 4,390 cc overhead cam V-12 engine, five-speed manual transmission, independent front and rear suspension. Total Production Run 809 cars 68-71. The 4.4-liter single overhead camshaft V-12 engine was fitted with three Weber carburetors and produced 320

horsepower. Such performance was combined with a luxurious interior to make a most impressive grand tourer. Plush leather, luxurious veneered trim panels, the last wood-rimmed steering wheel in a production Ferrari, air conditioning, a stereo, and standard power windows completed the interior appointments.

1972 FERRARI DAYTONAOwner: JC PetersonThe engine, known as the Tipo 251 and developed from the earlier Colombo V12 used in the 275 GTB/4, was a 4.4 L (4,390.35 cc, 267.9 cid)[2] DOHC V12 with a 60° bank angle, 365 cc per cylinder, 81 mm (3.2 in) bore and 71 mm (2.8 in) stroke, featuring six Weber twin carburettors (40 mm Solex twin carburettors were used alternatively). At a compression

ratio of 9.3:1, it produced 357 PS (263 kW; 352 hp) and could reach 280 km/h (174 mph). 0-60 mph (97 km/h) acceleration was just 5.4 seconds.[5] For the American version, slight modifications were made - the compression ratio was reduced to 8.8:1 and the exhaust system was equipped with a large central silencer, necessitating visible alterations to the primary pipes.

1986 FERRARI MONDIAL 3.2 CABRIOLETOwner: Philippe BonneauThe Mondial Cabriolet has the distinction of being the world’s only factory produced four seat convertible with a transverse mid-rear V8 engine. It has the same drivetrain as the Ferrari 328. Approximately 2400 were built from 1983 through 1993.

1990 FERRARI F40Owner: Jerry Roehl478 horsepower at about 2400 pounds. With a 3-liter, 8-cylinder engine with twin turbos, this car goes 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds and has a top-end speed of 208 mph. Ferrari made 1315 F40’s and 202 for the U.S. market. These cars have become highly-collectible. A Ferrari dealer in Monterey, California made a deal to have the second Ferrari ever exported to the U.S. shipped to him in

Monterey so that it could be auctioned the day before the Pebble Beach Concours D’ Elegance. The bidding ended with Jerry J. Moore of Houston, then the No.1 car collector in the world with 832 cars. Mr. Moore traded six new Ferrari Testarossas and paid $500,000 for this car on August 18, 1990. Known as the “Pebble Beach F40” due to the circumstances surrounding its purchase.

1997 FERRARI F355Owner: Wallace BowThe F355 was made in three variants, a fixed-roof Berlinetta, a removable roof GTS, and a convertible spider. 3,717 spiders were made throughout the 1995-1999 model run. Although many convertibles are called spiders, this car is a true spider with a

soft top that folds onto the body which is then hidden by a leather cover. Factory specifications are 375 horsepower and 0-60 in 4.7 seconds.

1999 FERRARI 360 MODENA F1Owner: Jerry RoehlThe 360 replaced the Ferrari F355 and due to the popularity of this car, Ferrari produced 8800 of them. The 3.6l V8 engine produces 400HP. 0-60 in 4.5 seconds. Top speed: 186 mph.

2002 FERRARI 575 M MARANELLOOwner: Jerry RoehlThis Ferrari 575 M Maranello, is one of 2014 made. It has 550 horsepower.

2006 FERRARI F430 SPIDEROwner: Jerry RoehlThis is a relatively rare car for that model since it has a manual 6-speed transmission. It is essentially a new car due to its low mileage of 682 miles.

2009 LAMBORGHINI MURCIELAGO LP 640 ROADSTEROwner: Jack VigilThe Lamborghini Murcielago LP640, named for a legendary fighting bull, is an Italian high-performance exotic super car. This car was originally designed as a tribute of retirement to former chief test driver Valentino Balboni. Its characteristic scissor doors open upwards in signature Lamborghini style. Electronically-

controlled air scoops, located behind the doors, open depending on engine temperature and need for cooling air.The Murcielago is available as a two-passenger coupe or roadster. Both models feature a 6.5-liter V12 engine that produces up to 632 horsepower (Lamborghini states 640 PS or Pferdestärke (German for ‘horse strength’), a unit of power measurement commonly used in Europe, South America and Japan). A six-speed manual transmission is standard, and an available E-gear auto-shifting manual transmission with steering column-mounted paddles allows for split-second gear shifts. A permanent all-wheel-drive system with electronic traction control and an electronically-controlled adaptive suspension are standard equipment. Optional light-weight carbon ceramic brakes offer superior durability and reduce brake fade, where the brakes become less effective due to overheating in extremely demanding conditions such as racing. An available clear glass engine cover allows the owner to display the engine. The interior can be customized with exclusive materials such as Alcantara and carbon fiber trim.The 2009 Lamborghini Murcielago is a carryover from 2008.

2015 FERRARI 458 SPECIALEOwner: JC PetersonThe naturally aspirated 4.5-liter V-8 is now rated at 597 horsepower, although torque remains steadfast at 398 lb-ft. Ferrari says it’s the highest-output naturally aspirated Ferrari V-8 of all time, and that its 133 horsepower per liter is the “highest ever achieved by a roadgoing naturally

aspirated engine.” Equally as important is the Speciale’s weight loss, with Ferrari quoting a dry weight of 2844 pounds—down from a claimed 3042 pounds in the Italia—which gives it a power-to-weight ratio of 4.77 pounds per horsepower. The Italian marque says that 0–62 mph will take 3.0 seconds—which we find conservative as we’ve recorded 3.0-second runs to 60 in Italia guise in previous testing—and 124 mph will arrive in 9.1 seconds.

2014 FERRARI 458Owner: Mo VigilThis 2014 Ferrari 458 Italia 2 door coupe with Bianco Italia custom paint is Ferrari at its best. This car from top to bottom is one of a kind with racing carbon seats, alcantara leather, scuderia Ferrari shields, suspension lifter, 20 inch forged dark painted rims and the carbon fiber racing package. The car was purchased

out of a dealership in Washington DC and has been featured in numerous magazines, websites and car shows. This car has a V8 engine that puts out 562 HP and can do 0-60 in 3 seconds.

2016 FERRARI 488 Owner: JC PetersonThe 2016 engine is smaller than its predecessor, and its displacement of 488 cubic centimeters per cylinder gives the car its name: 488GTB. Multiplied by eight, that works out to 3902 cc for the new 90-degree V-8, which is mated to, as was the 458’s V-8, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Despite the 0.6-liter reduction in displacement, the new engine makes more

power: 661 horsepower at 8000 rpm, versus 597 horsepower at 9000 rpm for the 458 Speciale. Torque, predictably, is greater as well, reaching 561 lb-ft at a low 3000 rpm, far eclipsing the 458 Speciale’s 398 lb-ft.

2015 LAMBORGHINI HURACANOwner: Jack VigilNothing on Earth can prepare you for the eyeball-melting performance of Lamborghini’s “entry-level” supercar, the Huracán. The angular design is severe yet elegant; the stealth fighter–like cockpit is as luxurious as it is intense. Nestled behind the cockpit is a 5.2-liter V-10 with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic;

with rear-wheel drive, it makes 571 hp and with all-wheel drive it produces 602.

1932 PACKARD OPERA COUPEOwner: Irwin HarmsWhile most car manufacturers were closing their doors from the effects of the Great Depression, Packard Motor Car Company continued to concentrate on building upscale cars for society’s elite of the United States and abroad. This 902 Opera Coupe is a fine example of J. W Packard’s business model. She is powered

by 319.2 CI Straight 8, 110 hp. With a three speed transmission with overdrive. Weighing in at 4505 lbs. she can achieve a top speed of 100 mph. The “sticker” price new was $2,795.00. She also had a supporting role in the 2009 movie Georgia O’Keeffe, starring Joan Allen, Jeremy Irons and Ed Begley.

1941 FORD PANEL TRUCKOwner: Irwin HarmsThis beauty is a true American Classic. The Ford car was thoroughly updated in 1941, in preparation for a time of unpredictability surrounding World War II. During the initial year of this car, it evolved considerably. The front fenders came in three pieces, the theory being that small damage could be replaced easily. During the year, it evolved into two pieces with the lower front and back sections being joined.

This number matching car has gone through a complete frame off restoration to a very high

level of detail as it was originally produced from the factory build sheet that is in the car. This prime example of Ford’s answer to the Corvette also has the Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission, Master Guide power steering, Engine dress option, Town & Country signal seeking radio, Thunderbird wire wheels with correct Firestone Deluxe Champion wide white wall tires. The exterior is finished in Flame Red and comes with the popular Porthole window removable hardtop and a removable convertible “rag” top.

This was the “jet age” and the rocket styling down to the jet turbine taillights and “dual cockpit” interior was on full display! 119 are documented to still exist. This car is powered by the 340 HP Police Interceptor

engine. This included the very rare triple Holley carburetors on the factory aluminum manifold and special high flowing dual exhaust. The Roadster is actually a four seater with the special factory tonneau cover. This was Ford’s exercise with its “Personal Luxury “ car to make it appear as a two seater. The power convertible top can be raised out of the trunk without removing the cover.

1964 MUSTANG CONVERTIBLEOwner: Michael UnderwoodThis 1964 1/2 Pony’s production date is March 18th, 1964. That’s only 9 days after Mustang production began and one month before the first Mustang was sold! So, this classic is one of the very first Mustang convertibles to ever roll off the assembly line. It has the Wimbledon white exterior,

Palomino interior/trim and factory air with power steering and a power top. In 1964 the car was delivered to Glens Ford Sales in Prescott, Arizona. Fast-forward to 2016 the car was restored to factory-original condition just as it rolled out of Dearborn in 1964 . This Stang is an “F” code. It has a numbers-matching 260 V8 2-barrel with a C4 automatic 5-bolt transmission. It also has many early production details like a small T-handle shifter, “A” air vent knob, original door/window handles, original dated glass all around and original AM radio.

The ‘76 Eldorado was the swan song for this period, a little past the oil embargo of 1974 when folks began to think of cars less as large canvases and more as utilitarian tools. In fact if you look at a 1976 Cadillac Seville it

is dramatically different in style and much more representative of the trim, compact styling to come. The ’76 Eldorado was art from the recent but dying past; it was art for all those who still appreciated the old masters, with their pool table size hoods and sweeping lines, their unapologetically large engines and pillowy soft rides. The 1976 Cadillac Eldorado was the “Last year” of the American convertible.

1991 JEEP GRAND WAGONEEROwner: Kevin CooperThe Grand Wagoneer enthusiast will recognize this rare find immediately. If you’re not in that category, let me explain why this particular year and color is so desirable. The production of Grand Wagoneers came to a sad close in 1991. The production run was very small, only 1560 rolled out of the factory that year, down from a high of 28,871 in 1978. That

alone made the 1991 models highly desirable. Now we add another element to the story – only 150 were produced in Hunter Green – creating a rare, highly sought after collectible. We can only guess how many have survived and when you find an original documented example with less than 100K miles, you are looking at a Jeep that may number in the teens. Grand Wagoneers are predicted to enjoy steady price appreciation over the next decade and the rare ’91 Hunter Green will be one of the most sought after.

1950 XK-120 JAGUAR ROADSTEROwner: Gary SingerAn instant sales and racing success since its debut, the XK-120 Roadster has remained an automotive icon to this day, helping to both establish and continue the Jaguar Legend. Named after its ability to exceed 120mph, an unheard of feat at the time, it was the “The World’s Fastest Production Car!” 3.4 litre, six cylinder, dual

overhead cam engine with an aluminum head sporting hemispherical combustion chambers - a  true “Hemi”; technology previously limited to race cars, and rare, exotic automobiles. The XK-120 OTS (Open Two Seater) was intended as a limited production racing platform to showcase this new engine, originally intended for Jaguars’s first post-war high performance four door sedan, the Mark Vll. Jaguar was overwhelmed with 500 deposits at its debut in 1948 at the London Motor Car Show. The traditional, slow and painstaking method of producing automotive bodies for low volume cars using aluminum sheets, hand-formed over a wooden frame, quickly proved inadequate after the first 187 left hand drive bodies were “hammered out” and a switch was made to more modern production methods. The vehicle represents the 22nd “steel” car, as opposed to the all wood-framed “alloy” car. When last checked,it was the oldest road-going XK-120 Roadster of its type in the US.

Twin SU carburettors were initially fitted, but were replaced with a single Solex 4A1 four-

1980 PORSCHE 911SC TARGAOwner: Abinash AchrekarIn 1978, Porsche introduced the new version of the 911, called the ‘911SC’. The “SC” stands for “Super Carrera”. It featured a 3.0-litre engine with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and a 5-speed 915 transmission. In 1979, Porsche had made plans to replace the 911 with their new 928. Sales of the 911 remained so strong however, that Porsche revised its

strategy and decided to inject new life into the 911 editions. 911 SC sales totaled 58,914 cars.

1966 230 SLOwner: Paul PhippsThe 6 cylinder, 170 hp, Mercedes 230SL was introduced in 1963 to replace both the 300SL and the 190SL. It is nicknamed “Pagoda” because of its slightly concave roof line. This is a one owner 230SL, bought February, 1966, at Enyart Motor Co. in Albuquerque and has spent its entire life in Albuquerque. Original and unrestored but preserved condition. It was

repainted by The Color Works, Los Lunas, in 2016, in its original horizon blue color. Approximately 55,000 miles since new.

1972 350 SLOwners: Priscilla & Chuck RomeroAn original, series 107, unrestored survivor which is still driven weekly. 120,000 miles, both soft and hard tops, and European bumpers and headlights. The car was called “Derpanzerwagon” by MB Engineering, the “armored car” even though it is 44 years old. This car drives almost like new.

1981 380 SLOwner: Marion SotelThe 380SL, so-named for its 3.8-liter V-8, had a smaller engine than the 450SL and was consequently 120 pounds lighter. The new engine was designed with emissions controls in mind while the 450SL’s mill was not. That meant that the two engines were relatively equal in terms of power (155 hp in the 380SL vs.

160 hp in the 450SL) despite the difference in their displacements. Performance was similar for the two cars, as was fuel economy.

1988 MERCEDES 560 SLOwner: Matt DeGregorioIn 1986, Mercedes-Benz shipped its most powerful SL of the decade to the U.S. in the 560SL. The car was also the heaviest of the 1971-89 R107 SLs that Mercedes produced, but the new 5.5-liter V-8 engine’s 227 hp did a fine job of mitigating that fact. Top speed was much improved (from 110 mph in the 380SL to 130 mph),

and the car was quicker from a standstill to 60 mph by about 4 full seconds. The engine was much torquier, too, which greatly improved the cars’ dynamics. Likewise, the car received a new rear suspension and a limited-slip differential to better handle the added torque and power.

2012 SLS AMG GULLWING COUPE Owner: Alberto EstradaThe 563-horsepower. The SLS Roadster is officially considered the second car to be independently developed by AMG. 6.3-liter V8, with 563 horsepower at 6,800 rpm and 479 lb-ft of torque at 4,750 rpm. This thrust

propels the SLS AMG to 60 mph in a mere 3.7 seconds.

2011-2013A road rally was added to incorporate a Friday event. Drivers were led by a police escort from Mercedes Benz of Albuquerque to the Napa Speedway west of Albuquerque where the rally was held. Although the rally was fun for everyone involved, the money raised was not worth the time and effort to plan so it was not continued.

2014-2016In an effort to raise more funds for the Albuquerque community, the organizers incorporated a Friday night crowdfunding event. Proceeds from this event helped fund the “Driving to the Future” technology classroom inside the Epicenter @ Innovate ABQ. Focusing on Economic & Workforce Development and Entrepreneurship, the Epicenter provides a space for technology camps for Albuquerque students and a meeting/gathering space for entrepreneurial organizations.

THE HISTORY OF CONCOURS DU SOLEIL

1997Concours du Soleil began as an informal gathering of the New Mexico Viper Club displaying cars at a residence in Albuquerque’s northeast heights. It quickly grew attracting more owners and a bigger audience each year.

2004A “test-drive”. Organizers staged an informal Concours which proved to be a wonderful weekend. Everyone decided it was a good idea and ventured to plan something on a bigger scale and Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation agreed to be the beneficiary for the following year.

2005-2006Organized by Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation, the first Concours du Soleil was held at its current location in Los Ranchos. It encompassed a Saturday night gala and Sunday public show. Carrie Tingley would organize the show for two years when a conflicting fundraising event would preclude them from participating in 2007. All proceeds were donated to Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation.

2007-2009The Albuquerque Community Foundation is asked to take over the planning of the event. The Cinco Amigos Fund is established. Each year
