Introduction The Adventures of Pinocchio (Le Avventure di

Pinocchio) is a novel for children by Italian author Carlo Collodi

The first half was published in serial form between 1881 and 1883, and then completed as a book for children in February 1883

It is considered a classic of children's literature and has spawned many derivative works of art, such as Disney's classic 1940 animated movie of the same name, and commonplace ideas, such as a liar's long nose

(name of the village where his mother was born) In 1848 and 1860 he served in the Tuscan army Lorenzini had won fame as early as 1856 with his

novel In vapore and had also begun intense activity on other political newspapers

He died in Florence in 1890, unaware of the fame and popularity that awaited his work

various satirical sketches and stories, including Occhi e nasi (1881), Storie allegre (1887)

In 1875 he entered the domain of children's literature with Racconti delle fate, a translation of French fairy tales by Perrault

In 1880 he began writing Storia di un burattino ("The story of a marionette"), also called Le avventure di Pinocchio, published weekly in Il Giornale dei Bambini (the first Italian newspaper for children)

and his poor father, a woodcarver named Geppetto In the original serialized version Pinocchio dies a

gruesome death, hanged for his innumerable faults at the end of chapter 15

At the request of his editor, Collodi added chapters 16–36, in which the Blue Fairy resurrects Pinocchio and eventually turns him into a real boy, making it more suitable for children

Steven Spielberg's film, A.I.: Artificial Intelligence (2001), based on a Stanley Kubrick project that was cut short by Kubrick's death, recasts the Pinocchio theme, in which an android with emotions longs to become a real boy
