KEREL BRADFORDMEN’S SOCCERBACHELOR’S DEGREE, 2014MASTER’S DEGREE, 2015
As you browse these pages, close your eyes and put yourself in the action. It doesn’t have to be the Oaken Bucket game or basketball at Assembly Hall. Maybe it’s a swimming lane, a wrestling mat or a soccer pitch. The question is, with the crowd stomping its feet and all the eyes on you, what does it take to push IU over the top and create a lasting memory?
In this year’s Membership Guide we’ve focused on the pain, the joy, the sweat and tears it takes to compete—and your donation is just as important as every practice rep, every coaching adjustment and pre-game meal.
You’ll see student-athletes preparing for both competition and life after IU. Look in their eyes. Feel the emotion etched on their faces. See their will to win. You are very much a part of their effort.
As you know, IU Athletics receives no taxpayer support, no special subsidy, and no student fees. As a supporter of the Varsity Club, you make it possible for us to educate our students and successfully compete in athletics, all without diverting any funds from the academic mission of the rest of the university. And, because the athletic department pays the costs to operate the Varsity Club, every penny you contribute goes to its intended purpose such as scholarships and facility improvements.
We’re excited to bring you this year’s Membership Guide. It delivers valuable information and allows us to say thank you for being a crucial member of the IU team. And, of course, it’s a perfect time to humbly ask you to be on our side again this year.
We truly believe that, with your help, we’re developing today’s athletes and tomorrow’s leaders. So on behalf of the entire staff of the Varsity Club, please accept our sincere thank you and Go IU!

2015-16 FUNDRAISING GOAL: $12 MILLION

Are you a part of it? Are you with them? Rising at 5:00 a.m.? Do you hear their grunts and groans; feel the sweat; share in the drills; the study; the sacrifice; the reaching down within yourself to do what is required to win? By the time a Hoosier student-athlete takes the field of play to defend the glory of old IU, he or she has put in thousands of hours honing body, mind and spirit. You may know that preparing the student-athlete for competition takes tremendous effort but did you also know…it takes you?
Becoming One with the Athlete. If you’ve ever been awed at the beauty of a Hoosier diver plunging 10 meters and making nary a ripple or experienced the thrills provided by any of the 24 varsity sports and wished you could do that, know that you can.
You see, 56% of our Hoosiers receive either full or partial student-athlete scholarships. Your contribution is as important to that young man or woman competing as the finest coaches, facilities and equipment.
Every dollar you give—as crucial as every repetition they take. Our coaches work to recruit good people who are not only great student-athletes but who are serious about their studies, too. We offer them in-state and out-of-state scholarships or athletic grant-in-aid. These scholarships include tuition and fees, room and board and textbooks. This year our fundraising goal is $12 million. And every tax-deductible dollar you give could mean an IU win and a helping hand in life.
IT TAKES MORE THAN WEIGHTS, WHISTLES AND WILL. IT TAKES YOU.

Ask someone on one of IU’s six national-title swimming and diving teams how much time they’ve spent in the pool. IU has won 13 Big Ten women’s tennis titles; how many blisters do you think were accumulated perfecting a forehand? Count the hours spent on the pitch from eight men’s soccer NCAA titles. And just as if you were in the pool, on the court or pitch, you have the opportunity to help day after day, class after class. Here are three ways you can “move the needle” for IU:
Annual Giving Fund By donating to the Varsity Club annual giving fund, it’s like you are there sharing in the camaraderie and joy. Your gift helps support scholarships in all 24 varsity sports. In addition, your generosity earns you benefits, including points for priority seating at football and men’s basketball games.
IU Glaubinger Athletic Endowment Fund A great way for you to participate in perpetuity is through our endowment fund. Get the satisfaction of helping not only now but as long as there are IU athletics, helping literally hundreds of student-athletes wear the cream and crimson and get a great start in life. Endowments help us remain stable during downturns in the economy and they allow us to invest in new scholarship opportunities.
Capital Gifts For the next four years, we will be focused on capital fundraising as part of a university-wide campaign. Student-athlete well-being will be at the forefront as we set out to raise critical funds for scholarships and capital projects. Look for more information soon.

The whole team is counting on you. No one has more spirit or the desire to do more for IU than you do. The student-athletes you see in these pages and on the field of play are a tangible reminder. Every win, every exhausted smile and every fan
soaking it all up from the stands is because you were behind us, making it happen. As a thank you, we would like to do what we can with the following IU Varsity Club benefits:

The Ambassador Referral Program You arrive at each game head to toe in cream and crimson, you leave every game hoarse from cheering and you follow all the news on IUHoosiers.com. But what else can you do to help? Spread your enthusiasm for all things IU to all your friends and acquaintances. And that’s what the Ambassador Referral Program is all about—rewarding you for what you do naturally!
Simply talk up IU Athletics with your circle of friends and ask them to get involved. Give them our phone number or website. Tell them our student-athletes are working hard in the gym, the classroom and out in the community but they could always use more help. It’s that easy. And when you participate in the Ambassador Referral Program you will receive three non-accumulative priority points for every $100 in gifts from every new Varsity Club donor you refer.
The “Earn Your Stripes” 110% Campaign Red and white stripes have become all the rage recently. But no matter what’s currently “en vogue” among Hoosiers, giving a little bit more is always in fashion.
As always, the Varsity Club’s number one goal is to fund the annual student-athlete scholarship bill. The “Earn Your Stripes” 110% Campaign is a program we designed to reward you for going above and beyond your annual giving level by just ten percent more.
As a special thank you for your additional gift, you will earn several benefits:
> Earn even more priority points for season ticket seat locations.
> Receive a special “Earn Your Stripes” gift.> Donors who give 110% will be entered to win a Kevin
Wilson autographed football or Tom Crean autographed basketball (four total winners).
> Donors who give 110% will be entered to win either an IU baseball, football or a men’s basketball VIP experience (six total winners).

As a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Indiana University must abide by NCAA rules and regulations as they relate to all aspects of its athletic program. In addition to ensuring that all of our coaches, administrators, faculty, staff and student-athletes are aware of the following NCAA rules, IU is also responsible for providing NCAA rules education to individuals who are members of our athletics donor groups or meet the definition of “representative of athletic interests.” A violation by an athletics representative may result in severe sanctions against Indiana University (e.g. loss of scholarships, post-season bans and head or assistant coaching suspensions).
The information below is an attempt to provide you with basic definitions and “permissible and impermissible activities” regarding representatives of athletics interests.
Who is a representative of Indiana University Athletics interests?
The NCAA recognizes you as a booster or representative of the athletics department if:
athletics booster organization of Indiana University.
in the recruitment of prospects.
athletes or their families.
Once a booster; always a booster.
Per NCAA rules, once an individual has been identified as a “representative of the institution’s athletics interests,” the individual retains that identity indefinitely, regardless of when you were involved with the athletics department.
Who is a prospective student-athlete?
A prospective student-athlete is any student who is in high school (9-12 grades, 7-12 grades for men’s basketball) or is attending a two-year college, regardless of whether or not IU is recruiting that individual. All NCAA regulations concerning contact with a prospective student-athlete are applicable until the prospect reports for the first day of practice or the first day of college enrollment, whichever is earliest and regardless of whether or not the prospect signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI).
NCAA rules regarding contacts and benefits for prospective and current student-athletes:
You may…
coaching staff.
provided you do not contact the prospect or his/her parents. In addition, you may not contact a prospect’s coach, principal or counselor in an attempt to evaluate the prospect.
prospects. Contacts with sons or daughters of these families are permitted as long as they are not made for recruiting purposes or encouraged by Indiana University coaches.
by the IU Athletics Compliance Office.
provided the meal is pre-approved by the IU Athletics Compliance Office.
You may not…
the prospect is on campus for an official or unofficial visit.
congratulate him/her on commitment to attend Indiana University. Contact includes all forms of in-person, phone, email and social media contact.
student-athlete and his/her relatives or friends to visit campus (or elsewhere).
prior approval from the Compliance Office. This prohibition extends to congratulatory, birthday and graduation cards and gifts.
advertise, recommend or promote sale or use of a commercial product or service of any kind unless pre-approved by the IU Athletics Compliance Office.
Thank you!
It is nearly impossible to provide information on all situations that may arise as they relate to representatives of athletics interests. Should you have questions regarding specific scenarios, please do not hesitate to contact the IU Athletics Compliance Office ([email protected]) with questions, concerns or for additional guidance. Indiana University Athletics appreciates your continued support of our teams, student-athletes and coaches. Your assistance is crucial in helping IU play by the rules! 21
