Discovery Camp A.M. (Ages 3-‐6) Clubhouse Capers A.M. (Ages 7-‐8) Discovery Camp P.M. (Ages 4-‐8) Combines non-‐traditional learning activities with more traditional camp experiences. Encourages children’s interest and imagination to direct learning. Integrates language arts, math, science, and social studies with storytelling, art, music, games, cooking, outdoor and nature experiences, and movement activities as fun and learning permeate this year’s themes. (See p. 8.) Children stay with their teacher and an assistant in their grade-‐specific groups for the entire morning.

Older campers enjoy our “step-‐up” program as they “join” two clubs every week. (See p. 9.) Children begin and end the day in their grade-‐specific homeroom with their teacher and an assistant and move to another classroom for their second club. The clubs bring variety, excitement, outdoor experiences, and fun mixed with opportunities to use thinking skills, language arts, math, art, and more. Clubhouse Capers is a great match for the interests and developmental readiness of its “members.”

Provides a dynamic mix of child-‐centered, thematic experiences and recreational opportunities. On M, W, and Th, children’s imaginations and enthusiasm guide directors and counselors who help them ponder and play with this year’s themes. Includes tennis and other ball skills (ages 7/8; ages 5/6 optional) and small and large motor activities (ages 4-‐6). On Tu and F, campers go to parks and pools for water and land fun! (Indoor activities are substituted on inclement days.) Four children to one supervisor is maintained on pool days. Afternoon campers bring a lunch and beverage.

How Teachers Use Themes Teachers develop themes based on their children’s ages and interests. While the descriptions that follow show the basic idea behind a week’s theme, activities vary. All themes include stories, arts and crafts, outdoor and indoor activities, creativity, action, and fun! In the older grades, teachers integrate reading, writing, research, and math into the program. “Learning while doing” is the key to great days and delightful times. Teachers send notes home on Fridays that describe the week’s activities and give a preview of what’s ahead.

Our country’s flag will be flying high this week as we celebrate the Fourth of July! Get ready for parades, fireworks, picnics, music, and a grand ‘ole time.

Week 3 (7/6-7/10) World of Treasures

What do you treasure? A collection of rocks, things that sparkle, a special toy or gift, the outdoors, friends, and more! Collect! Discover! Uncover! Study! Explore! Create! Appreciate! Enjoy a week full of treasures everywhere you look!

Week 4 (7/13-7/17) Awesome Animals Four legs…. bushy tail…horns…scales…huge ears… Enter the world of animals. Look at their similarities and differences, their homes, and their habits. “Adopt” an animal; run a “stuffed” animal hospital; create a zoo! Animal Crackers are for you!

Week 6 (7/27-7/31) Building Bonanza

Build a castle, a race track, a house for a mouse! Use recyclables, boxes, blocks, sticks, and other materials to create structures that tickle the imagination. Plan and build a town with skyscrapers, a library, a school, houses, and more. Creativity, discovery, and play are building blocks for learning!

CLUBHOUSE CAPERS THEMES (Ages 7 & 8) 9:00-Noon

Week 1 (6/22-6/26) Out-of-This-World Club

Space…..the great frontier! Create spacescapes. Imagine life on Mars or another galaxy. Think about the challenges of space travel and the possibilities of creatures from outer space. Reach to the moon, planets, and stars!!

Create & Innovate Club What problems would you like to solve? Do you need a homework machine? Something to help you clean up your room? A quicker way to do a chore or walk the dog? Let your curiosity take over and create prize-winning, even preposterous, inventions of your own. Imagine, explore, and create to better the world around you.

Week 2 (6/29-7/2) Science Mysteries Club Get ready for a week full of fascinating experiments from many fields of science. Use the scientific method: ask, research, predict, test (experiment), record, conclude, communicate. Have fun learning by doing!

Treasure Hunter Club

Go on treasure hunts! Create maps for others to follow. Practice map reading as you search for hidden treasures. X marks the spot for

fun and adventures.

Week 3 (7/6-7/10) Games Frenzy Club Indoor and outdoor, fast moving and snail-paced……..…games can take on all sorts of looks. Try old favorite playground and board games, meet some new games, and make-up your own. Consider game strategies and game manners. Have a good time whether you win or lose.

Secret Agent Club Mysteries! Spies! Intrigue! Help Encyclopedia Brown solve a mystery. Work with codes to give a clue or send a message. Find out how Dick Tracy or other detectives get their man! Enjoy tricking the tricksters as you become a secret agent.

Week 4 (7/13-7/17) Coding for Games Club

Experiment with basic programming using an app on the iPad to create games for your and others’ enjoyment. See how to control from behind the scenes.

Sports Club It’s time to hit the fields and the gyms for a week full of sports. Play old favorites and learn new games with a little soccer, basketball, kickball, and more. Practice good sportsmanship. Remember: it’s not whether you win or lose; it’s how you play the game!



Week 5 (7/20-7/24) Fit as a Fiddle Club Fitness can definitely be fun!!!! Turn every day into a fitness bonanza with energizing movement and an understanding of how good food fuels your body. From stretching and yoga to running and relay fun, you’ll be on the right track!

Wild About Art Club Here’s a week of delightful and engaging art activities that can be done inside or outside with an emphasis on the out-of-doors. Enhance your projects with nature’s materials. Art is all around you and is in the eyes (and hands) of the beholder. Week 6 (7/27-7/31) iMovie Club Experience the out-of-doors through hikes, stories, games, and crafts. Look! Feel! Listen! Smell!

Outdoor Adventures Club Venture into the great outdoors with scavenger hunts, map making, games, survival challenges, and other activities filled with sunshine, fresh air, and fun!

DISCOVERY PM THEMES (Ages 4 – Gr. 3) Noon-3:30 Week 1-3 (6/22-7/10) The Amazing Race Perhaps you’ll go around the world in eighty days. Where would you visit? What would you see? What would you do?
