Palm-er Cash Mobs are scheduled for the third Thurs-day of each month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The pre-mob gathering place will be announced a week prior to the event. Mobbers are encouraged to gather early and grab a bite and a brew. The host business is announced at the gathering place, just prior to departure. August 1Matanuska Peak Challenge, 9 a.m., Lazy Moun-tain parking area. The Matanuska Peak Chal-lenge is one of alaska’s most grueling mountain races, with 14 miles of trail ascending and de-scending two peaks with a total elevation gain of 9,100 vertical feet. no aid stations. Manda-tory gear includes windbreaker top and bottom, long underwear top and bottom, hat, gloves and water bottle. entry fee is $30, and runners will meet at 8 a.m. sign-up only available on race morning. July 3the eagle river Fireworks are part of a community-wide Independence day celebra-tion sponsored by the eagle River Lions Club. With food, entertainment and games in the park and 19 hours of daylight, the sun won’t go

down until just before the fireworks go up, at midnight.

July 4Chugiak Fourth of July Parade will be held starting at the Latimer fire station on the Old Glenn Highway and finishing at the Chugiak senior Center. Turn out to watch — or march in — the parade, and bring a sack to collect all the candy thrown out during the event. The parade begins at 2 p.m.

July 8-13Bear Paw Festival. The Chugiak-eagle River Chamber of Commerce works year-round to provide a great family-friendly festival. For more information and a complete schedule of events, visit bearpawfestival.org.

GirdwoodJuly 3-5Girdwood Forest Fair. The Forest Fair fea-tures handcrafted items, exotic foods and enter-tainers from all over alaska, and the annual For-est Fair Parade at 10 a.m. on saturday. The fair runs from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday and saturday, and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. sunday at the fairgrounds, Mile 2.2, alyeska Highway. Limited parking is
