THE GAIL BORDEN PUBLIC LIBRARY DISTRICT NEWSLETTER IS PUBLISHED BI-MONTHLY ISSUE NO. 2015-01 JANUARY 1, 2015

Even though this referendum to add residents in the far west of our district passed overwhelmingly in the present library district, it did not pass among the unserved voters in the west and, thus, it did not pass. I want to thank all the volunteers who worked on this effort. I also would like to say we enjoyed meeting many new people. Continued on page 2.

A LEGO® ExhibitThrough January 31Main LibrarySee 13 world-famous landmarks built entirely of LEGOs® at this free exhibit! LEGO® Certified Professional Adam Reed Tucker has re-created Fallingwater, John Hancock Center, Marina City, Willis Tower, Trump Tower, Burj Khalifa, Empire State Building, St. Louis Arch and more.

LEGO®, its logo and the brick and knob configuration are trademarks of The LEGO Group. This exhibit is sponsored by the Gail Borden Public Library Foundation and Judson University.

Carole Medal continued from page 1There were many people who enjoyed using their trial complimentary library card and were disappointed when the referendum did not pass. We have had a number of people come in to purchase a fee card or to annex since November. You too can purchase a fee card or, if your property is continguous to any portion of the Gail Borden Library District, you could annex into the district. Please contact Joyce Schifferer at 847-429-4596 or [email protected] to learn more. In either case, it will not cost you anymore than if the referendum had passed and you were paying for library services on your tax bill.

We look forward to providing you with excellent library services and seeing everyone check out books, e-books, DVDs, attend library classes and programs, visit engaging exhibits, get homework assistance from tutor.com and take advantage of our new music and movie streaming services. There will be much more coming in 2015 so please stay tuned!

Sincerely, Carole MedalExecutive DirectorGail Borden Public Library District

From Our Neighborhoods: Four Chicago Writers Who Changed AmericaFebruary 4 – 28Main LibraryPoet Gwendolyn Brooks, playwright Lorraine Hansberry, populist historian Studs Terkel and novelist Richard Wright inspired social change in America by telling stories about the people they lived and worked with in Chicago, writing about their hopes and dreams as well as the barriers they encountered and fought. This exhibit is from the American Writers Museum and cosponsored by The Chicago History Museum. It is funded through the generous support of The Chicago Community Trust and the S&C Electric Company.
