Summer Institute Stipend Options The maximum allowed stipend for the ITTC Summer Institute (June and July combined) is $1600. A faculty member wishing to receive a stipend may choose one of the following options: 1. One Full Institute during June or July, stipend in the amount of $1200. Plus Add-On Workshop(s) in the other month, stipend up to the maximum amount of $400. 2. One Create Your Own Institute during June or July, stipend up to the amount of $1200. Plus Add-On Workshop(s) in the other month, stipend up to the maximum amount of $400. Add-On Workshops: 1. A faculty member may apply for an additional Workshop(s), for an add-on stipend up to $400, to be completed during the month they are not registered for a Full Institute. 2. Add-on stipends will not be paid for Workshops concurrently scheduled as part of an Institute for which the faculty member is already registered. We encourage all interested parties to participate, but only non-12 month faculty are eligible for the stipend award. Non-Stipend Participants are not limited in the number of courses in which they can enroll, but we recommend following the guidelines above. Non-stipend participants will be expected to attend under the same objectives and criteria as stipend participants. More information about eligibility is listed under Stipend Guidelines on page 4.

Target Audience The ITTC Faculty Center Summer Institute is geared towards any full-time faculty, adjunct, teaching assistant, and/or others interested in professional development. Stipend preference is given to 9-month full-time faculty. Summer Institute Highlighted Topics

Understanding the Course Development Life Cycle and its impact on quality course development. Designing and developing interactive and engaging web-assisted, online, and face-to-face courses based upon sound pedagogical principles and best practices in instructional design. Understanding the mobile learning environment and its impact on teaching and learning. Assessing learners using best practices in teaching and learning. Using Flipped Classroom concepts and activities to enrich teaching and learning. Building critical thinking skills using best practices in teaching and learning. Using best practices in teaching and learning to create and use rubrics to improve transparency of assessment and learning outcomes. Conducting course and program assessment reviews.

Summer Institute Session Information Summer Institute sessions will consist of classroom instruction by ITTC Faculty Center Staff and invited facilitators, and additional self-directed time, allowing participants plenty of time for hands-on project work. Sessions will be held in the Dean B. Ellis Library. Specific room numbers are available on the Schedule. Class size will be kept to a maximum of 25 per course. Deliverable and Assessment Information All participants will be expected to present their finished deliverable(s) during one of two Showcase and Graduation events held at the end of the month in which they attend an Institute or Workshop. The final presentation will be assessed with a rubric designed for the course. Participants will be informally assessed before and after the Institute to measure their understanding and use of sound pedagogical principles, instructional design criteria, and their innovative approaches to teaching and learning. Showcase and Graduation All attendees to the Summer Institute will be expected to present their deliverable during one of two Showcase and Graduation events. All participants will receive a Certificate of Completion. Stipends will not be paid until after the faculty members presentation during one of the Showcase and Graduation events.

Application Process (including Scope Document) Participants are expected to show how they will use the knowledge, skills, best practices or pedagogy gained/learned during the Institute to improve their teaching or student learning in the next semester. The 3-Step Application Process: 1. Complete an Application and Scope Document 2. Have the Application and Scope Document approved by the Dean 3. Submit the Application and Scope Document to the ITTC Faculty Center Registration Online registration information and instructions will be emailed to approved applicants after the date stated on the Application. Prerequisite Courses The following prerequisite courses will be offered in May 1. From Concept to Design - Using the CDLC

to Build Quality Courses is a prerequisite course required for all Courses all Workshops and Institutes. Face-to-Face Sessions will be offered in May for faculty who are new to the CDLC. The course is also offered online. 2. Mac Basics is a prerequisite course required for the iInstitute. 3. iPad Fundamentals is a prerequisite course for the iInstitute and Lesson and Activity

member will be returning to teach at the university during the upcoming academic year. 10. It is asked that summer institute participants apply the concepts, ideas, and skills learned during the institute to improve their next round of courses. 11. The Dean or Unit Administrators nomination should have a clear link between departmental, college or university strategic goals and the expected faculty outcomes from participation in the Institutes and/or Workshops. 12. Adjunct faculty and Teaching Assistants are normally not eligible for stipends. However, if the Adjunct or TA is routinely assigned to teach classes by the department and the nominating official is reasonably certain that the individual will be teaching at least half-time during the upcoming academic year (both fall and spring semesters), then the individual may be nominated. It is the complete responsibility of the Dean or Unit Administrator to execute whatever paperwork is necessary for the Adjunct or TA to be employed by the university during the summer months. Full-time faculty will have priority assignment over Adjuncts and TAs wishing to receive a stipend. 13. If more funding becomes available, ITTC Faculty Center will request additional applications for the 2015 Summer Institute. All sessions are open for faculty to attend without stipends. Non-stipend participants will be expected to attend under the same objectives and criteria as stipend participants.

Stipend Guidelines

Maximum Stipends Allowed for ITTC Summer Institute (June and July combined): $1600 1. A limited number of ITTC Faculty Center paid stipends are available for eligible faculty members. 2. Stipends will be awarded on a competitive and/or a priority need basis. 3. Only non-12 month faculty are eligible for a stipend award. 4. A non-12 month faculty member may earn a maximum stipend of $1200 per summer month (June or July) and a maximum of $1600 over the entire summer (June and July combined). 5. A faculty member cannot be stipend for the same Workshop/Institute they received a stipend for in the previous two summers. 6. The stipend award cannot put the faculty member over his or her budgeted payroll maximum line item. The Dean or Unit Administrator should determine line item maximums for individual applicants prior to approving the individual for a stipend award. 7. The faculty member cannot be scheduled to teach a class during the term they are signed up for a Full Institute. If a last minute change of schedule puts the faculty member into a teaching situation the chair or dean will notify the ITTC Faculty Center and withdraw the nomination. 8. To receive the Stipend award, the faculty member must attend at least 90% of all sessions for which they are receiving a stipend. 9. To the best knowledge of the Dean or Unit Administrator, the nominated faculty

iPad Fundamentals is a 2 hour Workshop designed to help faculty get started using the iPad, including the built-in apps, and understand the basic functionality of the iPad to enhance their ability to use it in class. Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) and Writing in the Disciplines (WID) hinge on the idea that writing is a form of knowledge-making, required for effective communication in every discipline. This institute will include instruction on developing and sequencing effective writing assignments, generating rubrics, commenting on student writing, best practices to develop genre awareness, how to teach discipline-specific writing conventions, and guiding students through effective peer and self review strategies.
