Welcome

The Engineering Career Resource Center (ECRC) provides

career planning services to engineering and computer

science undergraduate and graduate students and College

of Engineering alumni. The ECRC coordinates career

advising services, career resource materials, workshops,

employer presentations, campus interviews and online job

postings. We assist with all levels of employment including full-time positions

at varying experience levels, summer and part-time jobs, internships and

cooperative education assignments.

The University of Michigan College of Engineering (CoE) graduates are among

the best trained and most prepared in the world. As the career liaison for

students and alumni, the ECRC provides leadership, resources and networks

to link employers with highly qualified candidates in a broad range of

engineering disciplines. Over 4,500 campus interviews are managed through

the ECRC annually.

We hope this guide will provide you with an overview of the many ways

in which you can partner with the College of Engineering to enhance your

presence on campus. While job postings, campus interviews and career fairs

are great ways to connect with candidates, we also welcome the opportunity

to help you develop an individualized campus recruiting strategy. In addition

to recruiting information, you will find our most recent data on the post-

Building a Campus PresenceMany companies have discovered that the best way to assure

a consistently successful record of hires is to build a solid,

ongoing relationship with the College of Engineering and its

student body. Companies are encouraged to participate in career

fairs, company days, information sessions, and other events

on campus. If you have an interest in hosting a campus event,

please contact an ECRC staff member for assistance.

On-campus interviews are a convenient way for your company

to connect with multiple candidates for your recruiting needs.

The ECRC staff will work with you to ensure an efficient and

productive visit. Interviews are primarily conducted from

September--March on North Campus at the Duderstadt Center

and Pierpont Commons. Currently, there is no charge for on-

campus recruiting.

Guidelines and Policies

Our Recruitment Policy Statement can be

found at our website, career.engin.umich.

edu/recruitmentpolicy. Companies that

recruit at the University of Michigan College of

Engineering must adhere to Equal Employment

Opportunity (EEO) guidelines, the National

Association of Colleges and Employers

Principles for Employment Professionals and

recruiting date and submitting required

documentation, please pay special

attention to the timelines below. A

successful recruiting effort is often

dependent upon allowing sufficient

time for students to submit resumes

and sign up for interviews.

Business Days Before Interview Date

Job Descriptions Due 36

Resume Submission Begins 36

Resume Submission Deadline 15

Employer Preselection Deadline 10

Preselect Sign-up Begins 7

Alternate Sign-up Begins 4

Sign-up Ends 3

Posting Jobs for Interviews

Once you receive your interview date

confirmation, you will be able to view your

schedule information. You may then attach a

position to your schedule. Note: At this time,

the ECRC only screens on graduation date

and degree/major.

Interview Schedule Options

ROOM-ONLY RESERVATION

This option allows a company to build its own

interview schedule with resumes obtained

during a career fair, company day or job posting.

The ECRC will reserve interview space.

Companies that utilize the Room-Only option

are required to provide a copy of each interview

schedule to the ECRC prior to the interviews.

PRESELECT

This option allows students who qualify for a

position based on graduation date and degree/

major to submit their resume to request an

on-campus interview. You will then have an

opportunity to preselect students who you

would like to sign up for interview slots.

OPEN SCHEDULE

This option allows any student who qualifies for

a position based on graduation date and degree/

major to sign up for an interview slot. Students

sign up without your advance resume review,

Student Leadership

Students at the University of Michigan have

many opportunities to participate in co-curricular

leadership experiences that allow them to develop

skills different from those in the classroom. These

opportunities, whether found in mentoring others,

student government, community service efforts,

project teams or other areas, prepare students to

face real-life challenges in business, community

and personal relationships.

Community Service

U-M is nationally renowned for its dedication

to community service. Throughout Washtenaw

County and around the world, students and faculty

are lending a hand to senior citizens, school-

children and the homeless, as well as to the

human services agencies that help those in need.

Project Teams

Many of our students participate in student

design contests which give them real-world

experience with teams and the complete

engineering process, from concept to finished

product. The College enthusiastically supports

this form of education with partial funding and

the W.E. Wilson Student Team Project Center,

a facility designed to support project teams.
