Resident camp is a unique sleep-away opportunity that gives girls a powerful experience building independence, character, friendships, and an understanding of the natural world, all within a safe and supportive environment. Established in 1929, Camp Molly Lauman has a rich heritage of encouraging girls to try new things, practice newfound skills, and make lifelong memories. We want each girl to have a positive experience learning more about herself and becoming comfortable in the outdoors.

Camp Molly Lauman offers programs for girls who have completed grades K-12, regardless of whether or not they are a registered Girl Scout (non-members pay an extra $15 membership fee). Girls sign up to attend individually; it is not a troop event.

Come camp with us!

Girls choose a program based on their interest and grade completed in school. Generally, all the girls in a program will share a living unit, typically consisting of platform tents, a picnic shelter, a latrine, a hand washing station, and a fire ring. Each group has 10-24 girls with 3-5 adult camp counselors. Resident camp sessions vary in length, depending upon the program and age level of the participants.

We encourage adults to work together with their girls when choosing a summer resident camp session. Resident camp is most successful when adults and girls make a decision jointly, taking the expectations of both into careful consideration.

We know your camper will have the experience of a lifetime exploring the woods, trying new activities, and making new friends. We hope you will join us this summer as we build girls of courage, confidence, and character at camp!

You don’t have to be in a

Girl Scout troop to come to camp!

Each camp program has a theme around which activities will focus, but ALL campers will have plenty of time to do traditional camp activities like:

• Swimming• Arts and crafts• Nature exploration• Cookouts• Campfires

• Singing silly songs• Playing games• Making new friends• Badge activities• Outdoor adventures

Plus, tons of free-choice activities are available for each group to do together. Camp counselors will help girls plan their schedule on the first night of camp. Girls could pick group activities such as:

• Creek stomping• Sling shotting• Gaga ball • Making friendship bracelets• Watching an outdoor movie • Sleeping under the stars• A tea party with one of our international counselors• Visiting the camp garden

• Hiking• Letterboxing (a type of treasure hunt)• Playing parachute games• Putting on a puppet show or play• Going on a fairy hunt• Roasting marshmallows• Snacktivities

Camp Activities

WHERE GIRLS SLEEPCamp is rustic. Girls stay in platform tents, cabins, or yurts with other girls who have all signed up for the same camp program. Each unit has pit latrines, a hand washing station, and a picnic shelter. A central shower house is available for all girls to use. In case of severe weather, indoor shelter is available.

Platform tents are heavy canvas structures with wooden floors and four beds. Open flaps allow for light and ventilation

Cabins have lights, screened windows, and four beds.

Yurts are a cool cross between tents and cabins. They have ceiling fans, lights, screened windows, and four sets of bunk beds.

CAMP STAFFOur staff members go through an intense screening, selection, and training process. Many staff members are aspiring teachers, outdoor educators, and former campers. They come from all over Ohio, the United States, and the world to work here!

Staff members do not stay in the same sleeping quarters as campers. Instead, counselor quarters are near the center of the unit, where they can monitor the entire groups easily. At night, camp counselors check on girls to make sure that they are settling down well. Often they’ll read stories or sing them to sleep. Staff members are always within earshot, if they are needed.

Camp Molly Lauman, my home in the woods...

MEALSMost meals are served family style in the camp dining hall. We also do campfire cookouts where girls will help plan and prepare their meals. Meals are kid-friendly and healthy. We prepare many dishes from scratch which allows us to easily accommodate most common allergies and dietary restrictions.

Typical meals include homemade pizza, cheese quesadillas with tomato soup, and breakfast burritos. Picky eaters can usually find something that they like on our salad bar or sandwich station.

BRING A FRIEND!Girls can request ONE buddy to bunk with at camp. Requests for multiple buddies will not be honored. To be bunk buddies girls must be registered for the same program and both girls must request each other by name, not troop number.

Most girls come to camp on their own, without a buddy, so if your camper is nervous about not knowing anybody, let her know that there will be many girls just like her who are eager to make new friends! If she has more than one friend coming, don’t worry. Girls can hang out with all of their friends, new and old, during most of the day time activities, like swimming, meals, and game time.

Quiz Results13-20 Your daughter (and you) might not be quite ready for resident camp, but you might want to look into your local Girl Scout Day Camp, where can girls enjoy tons of daytime camp fun, but come home at night. Check out our Family Campout too, where your whole family can come spend the weekend at camp. Day Camp and family camping are great ways to prepare girls (and parents) for resident camp next summer.

Family DayAre you or your camper a little nervous about a first resident camp experience? Family Day is a great way for first-time campers to see camp in action! Meet the camp counselors, go for a swim, learn about nature and the critters that call camp home, play games with new camp friends, taste test some camp chow, and check out where campers eat, sleep, and play. Being familiar with new surroundings will help both girls and parents feel comfortable with your upcoming summer camp adventure. Lunch is provided for all registered participants. Register online.

Family CampoutGrab the whole gang and join us for the most rootin’ tootin’ weekend of the summer! Going on a horseback ride, learning to lasso, and joining in an all-camp gold rush are just some of the wild west adventures that you can try out at this year’s family camp. Of course, there will be time for swimming, crafts, and other traditional camp activities too! Resident Camp Mini-SessionsMini-sessions are a great way for first time and younger campers to try out camp.Mini-sessions all include 3-5 hours of themed program activities, plus a chance to swim, cookout, explore nature, and sing silly songs at a campfire program.

Craf ty Critters Calling all crafty kids! Do you like getting messy and being creative? In this art-tastic mini-session, you spend extra time getting crafty by making all sorts of creative projects using materials like beads, paint, recycled materials, and natural objects.

Pony Expres s Giddy up, little cowgirls, and head to camp for this rootin’ tootin’ mini-session. You’ll make a western craft, learn cowgirl songs to sing ‘round the campfire, sleep in a platform tent, and get to know our four-legged friends down at the barn. You’ll spend a total of three hours at the barn doing a combination of ground and in-saddle activities.

Splish SplashIf you’re ready for some splashtastic summer fun, dive into this mini-session. You’ll play water games, go creeking to explore water animals and plants, and splash and play in the pool.

Pajama PartyBring your favorite stuffed animal to the ultimate camp slumber party. You’ll make a snuggly craft project for bedtime, explore the nocturnal world on a night hike, splash around the pool at a twilight swim, and watch an outdoor movie.

Week-LongResident Camp Sessions

Ready for a full week of outdoor adventure? At our week-long camps girls spend 3-5 hours a day doing themed program activities. The rest of their time is filled with traditional camp activities and group free-choice selections, such as swimming, arts and crafts, games, creeking, and slingshotting. Full-week sessions are not recommended for first time campers.

Explorers Do you like exploring and adventuring outdoors? At camp, you’ll get to splash in the creek, dig in the garden, shoot slingshots, go on a treasure hunt, search for bugs and animals, and cook over a campfire. If all of that sounds like fun, then this is the session for you!

Playing in the PastBring your favorite doll to camp and explore what it was like to grow up in different periods of American history with her. What was it like to live during the American Revolution, on a pioneer homestead, or during the Great Depression. You’ll find out by playing games, making snacks, and creating doll sized accessories as you explore a different time period each day.

Medieval Merriment Hear ye, hear ye! There’s a crisis in the royal kingdom - dragons are running amok and we need your help to stop them! At this camp, you’ll join a quest to solve the dragon problem, participate in two horseback lessons at the royal stables (six hours total), play popular games from renaissance times, take aim at the slingshot range, hear stories of princesses, and much more!

Pirates & PixiesYo ho, let’s go, a pirate’s life for me. Follow the second star to the right to find a camp filled with pirates, pixies, and plenty of adventure. You’ll get to follow clues to find buried treasure, raid the galley for snacks, and make dress up pieces for your own pirate and/or pixie costume at this swashbuckling session.

PonytailsSaddle up for week at cowgirl camp! You’ll learn how to be safe around horses, how to pet and groom them, and how to start and stop your horse all by yourself. You’ll have a total of nine hours of combined ground and in-saddle lessons during your week at camp. Then round out your week of western adventure with a cowgirl craft project, signing cowgirl songs ‘round the campfire, and helping to prepare your own chuckwagon cookout.

Slime TimeGet sticky and slimy in this silly science session. Not only will you make your own slime, but you’ll launch rockets, shoot off soda geysers, and make bouncy balls, too! Plus, you’ll experiment with some tasty science by making your own ice cream!

Registering is easy! Adults, here’s how:1. Online registration becomes active at 9:00 a.m. on Feb. 2, 2015.

2. Figure out which program and dates your camper would like to attend.3. Visit www.gsoh.org and click on the resident camp online registration box.4. Submit your registration along with applicable payment. 5. Check your inbox. Your receipt will be emailed to the address associated with your CORA online account. We’ll also send payment reminders and tips as camp approaches.

Payment is easy! Here’s what and when you need to pay: 1. $40 non-refundable deposit—due at time of registration2. $40 bus fee (if applicable)—due at time of registration3. $15 membership dues (if not a current Girl Scout)—due at time of registration4. Care Package fee (if applicable)—due at time of order5. Remaining balance—due on June 1, 2015 or your registration is subject to cancellation6. Bus TransportationHop on a bus to camp for transportation that’s fun for girls and easy for parents! Camp counselors supervise the bus ride, play road trip games, and sing songs with the girls.

The bus fee is $40, no matter where the stop. Preregistration is required. Bus fees must be paid at the time of registration. Catch the bus in Delaware, Columbus, or Newark!

Make sure to include your desired size when you register. This offer is good for one (1) t-shirt per camper. T-shirts will be delivered at camper check-in. Camper must attend to receive shirt.

Frequently Asked Registration QuestionsMy camper’s program is full, what should I do?If you call us, we can add you to a waitlist; but very few waitlisted campers actually make it onto the roster. Please consider signing up for a second choice program if your first choice is full.

Is financial assistance available?Yes! Financial assistance and a variety of camperships are available for all programs in this mailer except for family camp. Find out more information at www.gsoh.org, by emailing camp@gsoh.org, or by calling 1-800-621-7042.

When will I get my confirmation packet? It’s online right now! All confirmation materials are posted under the camp tab of www.gsoh.org. Go there for packing lists, forms that will need to be filled out, check-in and check-out times, and more valuable information about summer camp.

Can campers stay with a sister or friend?Yes! If girls are registering for the same program, they can request ONE other girl as a buddy. Please do not ask for more than one buddy; the request will not be honored. Please request buddies by name, not troop number.

When is final payment due?All payments must be received on June 1, 2015. A late fee of $20 will be added to any payments not received by June 1.

Can I register after June 1?Yes! If there is space in a program, you can register up until the week before a camp starts. A late registration fee of $20 is added to all resident camp registrations after June 1.

Cancellation PolicyResident camp cancellations made before June 1, 2015 will receive a full refund, minus the $40 non-refundable deposit.Cancellations after June 1, 2015 must include a doctor’s note or other suitable documentation. Acceptable situations include camper’s illness, family emergency, parent’s change of job status or job transfer, etc. If eligible for a refund, minus the deposit, a written request must be submitted to the Council Headquarters within two weeks of the start of the intended camp program. Refunds are made by Council check and will be mailed. Please allow four to six weeks for processing. No refunds will be given after Aug. 31, 2015.If a camp session is cancelled by GSOH due to low enrollment or other reasons, campers will be given a choice to transfer to a suitable open session or receive a full refund of amount paid.

Pirate Treasure Hunt Shiver-me-timbers, there’s treasure to be hunting! We’ll start by making dress-up pieces soyou look the part, then set off on a swashbuckling letterboxing adventure, deciphering clues and a treasure map to find the buried treasure! Remember, X marks the spot!

Splash & Saddle 1 Spend a day at Camp Molly Lauman’s two most popular spots, the barn and the pool! Take the reins for a horseback arena lesson, spend time splashing at the pool, and round out the fun with traditional camp activities like crafts, games, and lunch in the camp dining hall. Limited adult spots are available. Non-participating adults are welcome to watch, but need to preregister for lunch ($5).

Pal & Me OvernightBring your favorite adult pal with you to this overnight camp experience. You can try a variety of camp activities while having a familiar adult nearby. Activities will include crafts, games, a cookout, singing, nature exploration, and more!

Other Outdoor Adventures

Day Camp 2015

Want a camp experience that’s close to home, but where you don’t have to spend the night? Day camp is a fantastic opportunity for you to experience the great outdoors in a five-day camp session that’s fun, affordable, and close to home. Summer sleuths will learn investigation and crime solving skills, while enjoying all the fun of traditional camp, like exploring nature, participating in flag ceremonies, cooking outdoors, making crafts, and much more! With seventeen different locations and nine weeks to choose from, we hope that something will fit your needs and busy summer schedule. Registration opens on April 1, 2015.

Which day camp is best for you?We offer day camps throughout the council; as far north as Wooster, as far south as Rio Grande, as far east as Dillon State Park and as far west as Paint Creek State Park. We also utilize many of the metro parks such as Blendon Woods, Slate Run, and Christmas Run Park not to mention our own camps-Crooked Lane, Ken-Jockety, and Beckoning Trails. Cost for a week of day camp ranges between $35-$95 and depends on whether it is an all day camp or a twilight camp in addition to what is offered.

Adults, can you spare five days this summer to make a difference in the lives of girls? Day camp depends on dedicated volunteers to have nine successful, fun-filled weeks each year. The number of girls who can be accepted to day camp directly correlates to the number of adult volunteers. As a volunteer, you’ll receive training to become familiar with the
