HEAD COACH MELISSA LAMIE Melissa Lamie enters her 23rd season as Grove City College’s women’s soccer head

coach. Since taking over prior to the 1993 season, Lamie has directed Grove City to 238 victories, fi ve Presidents’ Athletic Conference championships and three invitations to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.

The eight-time PAC Coach of the Year (1994-97, 2000, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2012), Lamie owns a 238-167-33 (.581) career record in 22 seasons as head coach, ranking 43rd all-time among NCAA Division III women’s soccer coaches in career victories

Last year, she helped the Wolverines to overcome a diffi cult schedule to win eight straight league games while reaching their third straight PAC Tournament fi nal.

In 2012, Grove City fi nished 16-4-2 overall and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championship Tournament for the fi rst time in program history while the 2013 Wolverines posted a dozen victories and advanced to the Eastern College Athletic Conference Tournament semifi nals.Grove City gave Lamie her 200th victory as women’s soccer coach when the Wolverines

downed Saint Vincent October 26, 2011. In 2009, Lamie guided the Wolverines to a 7-0 conference record and a berth in the ECAC Tournament while in 2007 she directed Grove City to a school-record 16 wins and the top seed in the ECAC Southern Championship Tournament. Under Lamie’s guidance, Grove City became the fi rst PAC women’s soccer team to go 10-0 against conference opponents during the 2003 season. The Wolverines capped the year by earning their second consecutive berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament with a 16-4-1 record. The next year, Grove City went 14-6-2 and won the PAC’s regular season title with a 9-1 record. In 2000, Grove City earned its fi rst-ever postseason invitation by qualifying for the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Champion-ship Tournament. The 2001 squad posted the program’s ninth double-digit victory total in 11 years by going 12-7-2 overall. The Wolverines advanced to the semifi nals of the ECAC Southern Championship Tournament. In 2002, the Wolverines earned the program’s fi rst-ever NCAA Tournament berth. In both 2002 and 2003, former standout Meg Tilley received CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. In 2009, six Grove City players achieved CoSIDA Academic All-District honors. A native of Denver, Lamie earned a bachelor of arts degree in physical education from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich. in 1992. In 1993, she completed her master of arts degree in physical education from Northern Colorado University. Lamie is also Grove City’s head men’s and women’s golf coach. She directed the women’s golf team to conference titles in 2011, 2013 and 2014. The 2014 team advanced to the NCAA Division III Championships. Lamie also coached the women’s basketball team at Grove City from 1992 to 2006 and is that program’s all-time wins leader with 157.

Dr. Stan Keehlwetter enters his 16th season as the assistant women’s soccer coach at Grove City. As an assistant at Grove City, Keehlwetter has helped Grove City capture two Presidents’ Athletic Conference titles and nine postseason invitations. Keehlwetter joined Grove City College on a full-time basis in 2004 as the Dean of Harbison Chapel. As Dean of Harbison Chapel, Keehlwetter works closely with student-led religious organizations on campus and also coordinates the College’s Chapel program. He became Dean of the Chapel in 1999. Keehlwetter also served as Grove City’s head men’s track and fi eld coach from 2004 to 2008. Under his guidance, the Wolverines won four consecutive PAC titles (2005-2008). Over 50 track and fi eld athletes qualifi ed for the ECAC Championships in his fi ve years as head men’s

track and fi eld coach. In 2007, thrower Bob Perri earned All-America honors in the shot put at the NCAA Division III Championships. Keehlwetter currently serves as an assistant track coach at the College. A graduate of Gordon College, where he was a three-year starter on the men’s soccer team, Keehlwetter owns master’s degrees from Duquesne and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. He earned his doctorate from Fuller Theological Seminary and lives in Wexford with his wife, Lois. They have three adult children.

GROVE CITY COLLEGE

The Grove City College women’s soccer program has cemented its status as one of the region’s premier squads over the past 15 years, having averaged a dozen wins per season since the start of the century. In 2015, the Wolverines are well-equipped to add another chapter to that storied history as head coach Melissa Lamie welcomes back six starters and 17 total letterwinners from a 2014 team that went 8-1 in the rugged Presidents’ Athletic Conference. Five of Grove City’s 17 letterwinners are entering their senior season in the program, including two of the team’s top scorers last year. Senior forward Kris-tin Thomas and senior midfi elder Abby Mathes both shared the team lead with fi ve goals last year and are each three-year letterwinners. Mathes has earned All-Region honors during her career and is a two-year starter while Thomas became a full-time starter in 2014. Both players are expected to be key contributors once again this fall. Senior forward Sammie Wild will also be counted on at the offensive end after lettering in each of the last two seasons. Wild will contend for a starting spot this year after playing in 21 matches as a reserve last year. She scored twice in 2014. Senior defender Madison Zajicek returns to help anchor the Grove City defense. She started all 21 matches in 2014 and helped Grove City record nine shutouts along with an overall 0.87 goals-against average. Zajicek is a three-year letterwinner for the Wolverines.

Junior Jordyn White is a two-year letterwinner and returning starter at defender for Grove City.

Sophomore forward Lacy Harkrader shared the team lead with fi ve goals in 2014. She will likely be a main component of the Grove City offense this season.

In goal, senior Nicole Lapia has the inside track to earn the starting spot after playing as a reserve in each of her fi rst three seasons. Lapia made six appearances last year and yielded just one goal. A quartet of junior letterwinners also returns for Grove City. Center back Jordyn White joined Zajicek on Grove City’s backline and helped bolster the Wolver-ine defense. She added two goals and an assist while starting all 21 matches in 2014. Junior defender Lindsey Reichert made four starts in 2014 and will be in the mix to start on a full-time basis this year. She has played in 28 career matches and owns two collegiate letters. Forward Ellen Benbow joins Grove City’s veteran nucleus up front after playing in 27 matches over the past two seasons. She is expected to challenge for a starting spot this fall. Midfi elder Natalie Silk returns for her third season and, like Benbow, will look to break into the starting lineup on a full-time basis this year. Silk is a two-year letterwinner with 21 career appearances to her credit. A deep and experienced sophomore class returns for Grove City.

2015 SEASON PREVIEW Sophomore Katherine Kouzelos led Grove City with 13 points in her rookie season and shared the team lead with fi ve goals. She started all 21 matches in 2014 and will likely be a fi xture at forward and/or midfi elder this year. Midfi elder Lindsay Hutton joined Kouzelos in the starting lineup for all 21 matches last year and is ex-pected to be a major contributor at both ends of the fi eld again this fall. Sophomore defender Emily Flenniken started 11 matches in 2014 and aims to take over on a full-time basis this year while classmate Elena Guerra will also contend for a starting position at defender or midfi eld after making 10 appearances as a rookie. Sophomore defender Sydney Dunn also lettered in 2014 and will push for a starting spot this season. Meanwhile, sophomore Trisha Winters will com-pete with Lapia for the starting spot in goal. Up front, sophomores Megan Van Kirk and Lacy Harkrader return after emerging as offensive threats during their freshman seasons. Van Kirk started 10 matches, fi nishing with two goals and three assists. Harkrader played in all 21 matches last year and shared the team lead with fi ve goals. Both are con-tenders to start on a regular basis in 2015. Several newcomers are also in the mix for playing time this year.

2014 IN REVIEW The 2014 season of women’s soccer at Grove City College could best be described as a season of two halves as the Wolverines turned a slow start into a strong fi nish that cemented a foundation for even greater successes in the future. During the fi rst half of the season, the youthful Wolverines dropped fi ve one-goal decisions while making their way through a rugged non-conference schedule. The lessons learned during those fi rst 10 matches paid off handsomely in the second half of the season as the Wolverines assembled an eight-match win streak that featured seven shutout triumphs. Grove City fi nished the season with an 8-1 mark in Presidents’ Athletic Conference play and advanced to the fi nals of the conference tournament. Seven Grove City players earned All-PAC honors, including a conference-best four First Team selec-tions. Senior goalkeeper Kristi Lathrop earned First Team status after posting a 0.27 goals against average in league action while sophomore Jordyn White, an in-tegral part of the Wolverine defense, joined Lathrop on the First Team.

Junior midfi elder Abby Mathes and freshman Kath-erine Kouzelos also received First Team recognition from the conference’s head coaches following the 2014 season. Mathes and Kouzelos each shared the team lead with fi ve goals. Senior midfi elder Holly Spofford capped her career at Grove City by earning Second Team All-PAC recog-nition while freshman midfi elder Lindsay Hutton closed her fi rst season as a Wolverine by earned Second Team honors. Junior Kristin Thomas, who also shared the team lead in scoring, earned Honorable Mention All-Presi-dents’ Athletic Conference honors. Defensively, Grove City recorded nine total shut-outs and held six other opponents to just one goal.

Senior forward Holly Spofford earned Second Team All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference honors from the league’s head coaches after the 2014 season.

ABOUT THE PAC Founded in 1955, the Presidents’ Athletic Confer-ence continues its mission of promoting intercollegiate athletics and the pursuit of academic excellence. Comprised of 10 select private colleges and univer-sities - Bethany College, Chatham University, Geneva College, Grove City College, Saint Vincent College, Thiel College, Thomas More College, Washington & Jeffer-son College, Waynesburg University and Westminster College - the PAC remains a unique organization in this day of high-pressure intercollegiate athletics. With academics at the center of each member’s philosophy, the PAC is built on the principle that an athletic program is a part of college life, but not an entity in itself. During the 2005-06 academic year, Chatham, Ge-neva and Saint Vincent all joined the PAC. Chatham competed for PAC championships for the fi rst time during the 2007-08 academic year. Saint Vincent fi rst competed for conference titles in 2010-11.

Geneva became eligible for conference titles in 2011-12. The PAC annually crowns champions in 21 sports. All-Conference status is awarded in all 21 sports. Head coaches select all-league squads for all team sports, while in individual sports such as cross country and tennis, all-PAC accolades are based upon performances at the conference championships. The PAC annually awards its men’s and women’s All-Sports Trophies to the schools which perform best across the board in conference competition. Grove City won the Women’s All-Sports Trophy for the 2014-15 academic year while Waynesburg earned the Men’s All-Sports Trophy. In 2014-15, the league named a conference-record 934 student-athletes to the PAC Academic Honor Roll, which recognizes all participating student-athletes who attain a term grade-point average of 3.60 or above during their semester of competition.

The beautifully landscaped campus of Grove City College stretches over 150 acres and in-cludes 28 neo-Gothic buildings. It is considered one of the loveliest in the nation. While the College has changed to meet the needs of the society it serves, its basic philosophy has remained unchanged since its founding in 1876. It is a Christian, liberal arts institution, dedicated to the principle of providing the high-est quality education at the lowest possible cost. Wishing to remain truly in-dependent and to retain its dis-tinctive qualities as a private school governed by private cit-izens (trustees), it is one of few colleges in the country that does not accept federal funds. Affiliated with the Presby-terian Church (U.S.A.), but not narrowly denominational, the Col-lege believes that to be well-ed-ucated a student should be ex-posed to the central ideas of the Judeo-Christian tradition. Grove City College offers un-dergraduate degrees in liberal arts, sciences, engineering, business, and music and is distinguished as a national leader in education. Grove City’s programs in elec-trical and mechanical engineering are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission Board of the Accreditation Board for En-gineering and Technology. The “big business school cur-riculum” prepares students for today’s global business reality. An extensive variety of internship op-portunities are provided across the curriculum. Grove City College wants its students to be prepared in this age of mobile information technology. Each entering freshman receives a tablet computer which is his or hers to keep upon graduation with a four-year degree. This is part of the Information Technology Initiative, a total program integrating technol-ogy across the curriculum.

The College believes that its student body has a unique mix of talents and abilities. Its Career Services program helps students identify those key assets during the fi rst year and then builds a four-year strategy to help them pursue a satisfying career. Personal counseling, profes-sional speakers, databases, alumni contacts, summer internships, cor-porate visits, employer presenta-tions and more are incorporated into the career preparation ex-perience. Grove City follows the se-mester calendar plan, in addi-tion to offering two-week ses-sions in January and May. Most of the 2,500 students live in separate men’s and women’s dormitories. The rest are local com-muters or married students. A full program of cultural, professional, athletic and social ac-tivities is offered, including 19 inter-collegiate varsity athletic teams. Grove City, a town of 8,100 people, is located 60 miles north of Pittsburgh. It is located near Inter-states 79 and 80 and has a municipal airport.

ATHLETIC FACILITIES All 19 of Grove City College’s intercolle-giate varsity athletic teams utilize the College’s superior facilities for competition, practices and off-season training and conditioning. Grove City’s athletic facilities have under-gone numerous renovations and improve-ments in recent years, with more upgrades scheduled in the immediate future. On lower campus, Robert E. Thorn Field is home to the College’s football and track and fi eld teams. The College installed CSTurf at Robert E. Thorn Field. CSTurf is a synthetic playing sur-face that features polyethylene LSR grass fi bers and a rubber infi ll system. The College also installed lights and re-surfaced the 8-lane track around the field. Grove City also reconfigured its setup for track meets during these renovations. In 2011, the College installed a new state-of-the-art scoreboard and new bleachers on the visitors’ side at Thorn Field. These upgrades benefi t the entire campus community as the complex is used by both the College’s club sports teams and its intramu-ral program, along with the varsity teams. The track is also available for use by recreational walkers and joggers. The com-plex also features 10 al l-weather tennis courts next to the stadium. Phillips Field House, located at the north end of the complex, features several locker rooms, an athletic training room, meeting rooms and coaches’ offi ces. It is used by the football, track and tennis programs throughout the academic year. The Physical Learning Center (PLC) houses the Grove City College Arena, home to the Col-lege’s basketball and volleyball programs. In summer 2012, the College renovated the Arena by installing new lighting and a new play-ing fl oor. In recent years, the Arena has also re-ceived new scoreboards and scorers’ tables.

The James E. Longnecker Pool is one of the nation’s premier small-college venues for both swimming and diving and water polo.

In addition, the PLC features the James E. Long-necker Pool, one of the premier aquatic facilities in the region. Each year, Grove City hosts the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Cham-pionships at the state-of-the-art facility. In 2012, the College also hosted the Colle-giate Water Polo Association Division III Champi-onships at the James E. Longnecker Pool. The PLC also features a second pool, the Recreational Pool, which is used by members of the College community year-round. A fitness room featuring aerobic and Cy-bex equipment and a separate weight room with free and mechanized weights are also keystone areas of the facility. The PLC a l so features s ix racquet-bal l/handball courts as wel l as two ad-jacent intramural rooms. The intramural rooms feature four basketball courts, four indoor tennis courts, four volleyball courts, an indoor track and two indoor jumping pits. The College installed new synthetic floor-ing and several new electronic scoreboards throughout the intramural rooms. The Physical Learning Center houses the athletic training room, locker rooms and offi ces for coaches and physical education faculty. The College recently constructed a new offi ce suite for coaches and athletic administration, while also incorporating its Athletic Hall of Fame area. Grove City’s outdoor athletic facilities have also received numerous upgrades in recent years. The varsity soccer field, College Field, was expanded and re-sodded during the sum-mer of 2005. College Field also received a new press box during the summer of 2007. Meanwhile, Grove City’s baseball and softball facilities recently received major facelifts as new dugouts, new fencing and electronic scoreboards were installed on both fi elds.
