HUDL

• HUDL is a website that gives you access to your son's game videos. The website can be accessed through a computer via the website hudl.com or there are apps available for android and mac devices such as iPhones and iPads.

• Through this website, you are able to do things ranging from making a highlight video for the season or even creating a recruiting website that is accessible by college coaches.

• The real value of HUDL is allowing the players the opportunity to make their highlight videos each year, watch their performance on the field and give family members the opportunity to see the game if they cannot be in attendance.

• For questions about HUDL – please email Coach Coats - [email protected]

Page 27: 2015 Football Programs...Sports Medicine • Athletic Trainers: Brandy Gothard, Antse Atanga, Matt Owens Morning Treatments: One hour before Morning Practice Starts – Ex on the field

• We will never encourage a player to quit another sport to concentrate on football only.

• This should not be happening with other sports either!

• It is the coach’s responsibility to arrange things so that the player can play multiple sports, not the player’s…

• They only get to be in high school for a short period of time. If they enjoy playing more than one sport… they should do it.

• Club/Select/7on7 Teams – We support and encourage participation in them. They help develop the skills needed to succeed… But school sponsored sports come first!

Multiple Sport Athletes

Page 29: 2015 Football Programs...Sports Medicine • Athletic Trainers: Brandy Gothard, Antse Atanga, Matt Owens Morning Treatments: One hour before Morning Practice Starts – Ex on the field

What do we expect of the players?

• Be a student 1st! Then an athlete.

• Address concerns with coaches themselves 1st. • Their behavior/character on and off the field should never embarrass their

school, family or team.

• Great Effort – “Playing good is hard… playing hard is easy”

• This program requires more than 50 minutes per day!! Cavs Course, After After, etc.

• Be Coachable. Willing to do whatever necessary to help this program.

• Position Placement… Unselfish! – Not everyone can play QB, WR, etc.

• Team Placement… Varsity, JV Black, White, Red etc.

• This is a family!

Page 30: 2015 Football Programs...Sports Medicine • Athletic Trainers: Brandy Gothard, Antse Atanga, Matt Owens Morning Treatments: One hour before Morning Practice Starts – Ex on the field

• 100% Effort into the development of the student athlete (classroom, character, work ethic, football and most of all – LIFE AFTER FOOTBALL)

• Create a positive, enthusiastic, family atmosphere that builds confidence and character.

• Make sure Football is FUN!

• Hold your son accountable for his actions.

• Open line of communication with players and parents

• Help in placement/recruiting for your sons plans after high school.

• 24/7 – 365 – Do what is right for kids!

What can you expect from the coaches?

Page 31: 2015 Football Programs...Sports Medicine • Athletic Trainers: Brandy Gothard, Antse Atanga, Matt Owens Morning Treatments: One hour before Morning Practice Starts – Ex on the field

What do coaches need from parents?

• Support at home! Not necessarily agreement.

• Open line of communication with the coaching staff. Please follow the chain of command. (our hope is that your son can address it 1st)

• Help us demand and expect accountability for you son: classroom, playing field, off the field

• Understand that we as coaches must make decisions based on what’s best for the entire program.

• Placement of players (Teams – black/white/red/jv/varsity

• Placement of players (Positions)

• Let your sons to learn valuable lessons while they’re in this program….. • Checking them out of school when they haven’t studied for an exam, or turning in an assignment.

• Bringing their pads, workout clothes etc. to school during the day when they forget them.

Success

“Your child’s success or lack of success

in sports does not indicate the type of

parent you are. But if your child is

coachable, respectful, a great teammate,

mentally tough, resilient and tries their

best… it is a direct reflection of your

parenting.”

Page 33: 2015 Football Programs...Sports Medicine • Athletic Trainers: Brandy Gothard, Antse Atanga, Matt Owens Morning Treatments: One hour before Morning Practice Starts – Ex on the field

• One bad tweet can be costly to a student athlete Three years ago, Scott Fitch couldn't believe what he was hearing. A college coach recruiting two of his Fairport High School boys basketball players called to say how much he liked what he saw after watching them play an AAU game, and that he thought both were good enough to see court time on his team as freshmen.

"But we're going to stop recruiting one of them," the college coach said.

Stunned, Fitch asked why.

"We found his Twitter account, looked through it and some of what we saw isn't representative of what our university is about," the recruiter explained.

• "Never let a 140 character tweet cost you a $140,000 scholarship,"

• Local schools are now starting to include a student's online activity as part of their code of conduct.

All schools have “Junior Days” in the spring

If you are really interested in a school, you need to go!

Information will be available on each school website

If you are interested in going to a school, you need to also need to go to their summer

camp

Save money by going to a one day camp for $25-$35 rather than a week-long camp for

$350

Talk to the LT coaches on which camps they recommend.

Be ready to run when you get there! They are evaluating you while you are evaluating

them!

• The time to get started is now! Take the SAT/ACT

• Have realistic expectations. Don’t mistake form letters and questionnaires

for genuine interest. The University of Texas starts each spring by sending

out over 500 letters. They will give around 20 scholarships each year. That

means 480 players who got a letter from them will not get a scholarship!

• Do not get excited about a letter until you get a hand-written note from a

coach.

• Recruiting Services – many of you have already been contacted by or will

be contacted by these groups. The decision is up to you but in our opinion,

it’s unnecessary.

• You will get great exposure at Lake Travis as good as anywhere in the

country! We are on the must stop list for all the major colleges.

Summary

Page 41: 2015 Football Programs...Sports Medicine • Athletic Trainers: Brandy Gothard, Antse Atanga, Matt Owens Morning Treatments: One hour before Morning Practice Starts – Ex on the field

• We had over 95 schools come through last spring! Every major

conference in the country was represented. They do not stop at every

school in the Austin area, but they do stop here!

• We cannot promise every one a college scholarship. The recruiters

will make the final decision, because their job is on the line. We will

do everything we can to help you achieve your goals!

• Investigate schools that you would be interested in attending even if

you did not play football there. Your education is your number one

concern!

• Worry about what you can control, being the best person, student

and football player you can be. Enjoy being a Lake Travis Football

Player. These should be some of the best times of your life!
