Silver Valley Idaho Tour The discovery of silver in the Idaho Panhandle played a large role in Inland Northwest history. This tour starts with the Cataldo Mission, site of Idaho’s

oldest wooden structures still standing and a key site in early European settlement of the region.

Next is a trip on North America's longest gondola - a 3.1 mile journey from Kellogg to the top of the Silver Mountain Ski Resort, where participants will get a

firsthand view of Idaho’ extensive mountains, learn about local history of forestry, silver and lead mining and smeltering in the Silver Valley, and efforts to restore the landscape from environmental impacts that are a legacy of that history.

The tour will conclude with free time for participants to explore Wallace, Idaho, which has a colorful history and where every downtown building is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Sign up and pay with ESP Conference Registration. Tour will depart the CDA Resort at 8am and return by 5pm. Price: $80 per person – includes gondola ticket, bus ride, and lunch (15 person minimum).

Walking Tour of Downtown Coeur d’Alene Lakefront: Discover the rich history and scenic beauty of Coeur d’Alene. Start with a visit to the Museum of North Idaho which takes you on a visual journey from Coeur d’Alene’s humble beginnings as the home of Fort Sherman, to its fast rise in the lumber industry, to the very beautiful and unique destination it

is

today. The museum is home to the area’s most extensive photographic archive of the history of Fort Sherman and the Coeur d’Alene Lake. Next you will witness the area’s early homes and landmarks, including Fort Sherman Chapel built in 1880, and some of the region’s largest trees, including old-growth ponderosa pines and Idaho’s largest American chestnut trees (over 43” in diameter and 140 feet tall). The tour will also feature

a walk along Lake Coeur d’Alene’s waterfront with discussions of the importance of the lake to the local community and Extension programming on water quality.

Sign up and pay with ESP Conference Registration. Depart from CDA Resort at 8am and return by 11:00 am. Price: $45 per person (5 person minimum).

St. Joe River Cruise Held Sundays in October, this six-hour public cruise (approximately 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) sails the length of the lake to the St. Joe River. The cruise offers eagle, osprey, and other wildlife viewing, as well as beautiful fall scenery. The cruise also offers information about the lake, specifically regarding the area lumber industry.

The cruise also offers an optional lunch buffet for $13 in addition to the listed cruise prices. These tickets must be purchased in advance from the CDA Resorts’ concierge.

Sign up directly with the Coeur

d’Alene Resort (800-365-8338).

Price: $38.75 for adults, $36.75 for

those 55 and older, and $13 for

kids 12 and under.

ESP National Conference Delegates—An Essential Component in the Operation of the Organization Bob Ohlensehlen, ESP National Executive Director

The annual business meeting of Epsilon Sigma Phi is held annually during the ESP National Conference and is known as the National Council Meeting. Each chapter is entitled to 1 or more delegates that may vote on business of the organization. In order to meet the requirements of the Bylaws, pertinent information that will be acted upon during the National Council Meeting must be sent to the delegates of the National Council Meeting 30 days prior to the meeting. In order to comply with this requirement, it is necessary to have the delegates registered by August 15th. Registering delegates is a simply process. Simply go to the ESP website under “Deadlines” and click on “Register Chapter Delegates for National Council Meeting.”

The states/chapters are grouped according to the number of delegates allowed based on chapter membership. Simply select your chapter from the group and you will be taken to a form to enter the name(s) of your delegate(s). We only ask for your delegate(s) name(s) and email address(es). In the event that you need to change or substitute a delegate, that will not be a problem. All you will need to do is to notify the national office of the change. We hope that every chapter will see that they have a delegate to represent them at the national council meeting. This year we have to approve a new strategic plan, the 2016 budget, 2016 committee members, as well as other business that may arise.
