Trinity was founded in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth 1st on grounds confiscated from an Augustinian Priory and is the oldest University in Ireland, built to further the education of the ruling Anglo-Irish families.

Opened in 1904, the Storehouse was an operational plant for fermenting and storing Guinness. Today it houses a fine exhibition dedicated to the Guinness story. POWERSCOURT HOUSE & GARDENS:After Buffet Breakfast at the Conrad, we

meet our Guide and board our Coach for our drive South to charming WEXFORD.

En route– We visit the Powerscourt House and Gardens. Originally built as a Castle in 1300, Powerscourt was altered in the 18th century, when the German architect Richard Castle remodeled the Castle and grounds, creating a magnificent Mansion in Palladian style around the shell of the Castle.

Although gutted by fire in 1974, it has been redone and reborn as an exceptional site.

An exhibition brings to life the rich history of the Estate. The double height Georgian Ballroom hosts weddings and other events. Powerscourt Gardens are a magnificent example of Aristocratic gardens of the 19th century. The Gardens include the famous Triton Pool with its 30-meter Fountain, the American, Italian and Japanese Gardens.

A highlight is the Pet Cemetery with its headstones dedicated to the family dogs.

We then proceed to the Powerscourt’ Avoca Café for our LUNCHEON with wine.

We’ll then enter the Wexford Opera House to attend:

Delius’ KOANGA (Wexford Opera House).Koanga was Delius’s 3rd Opera, composed

in 1895–7. The Plantation owner’s daughters ask an old slave– Uncle Joe, to tell them the story of Koanga and Palmyra.

Koanga, a Voodoo priest and Dahomean Prince, came to the Louisiana Plantation and met Palmyra, a Mulatto, also of Dahomean ancestry. Koanga promised to be an obedient slave if he can marry Palmyra and renounced the beliefs of his people.

He and Palmyra love each other, but their marriage is stopped as the overseer wants to marry her himself. Palmyra is abducted and Koanga then repents his betrayal of his heritage, calling on his Voodoo gods to curse the Plantation. The story of Koanga and Palmyra ends violently. In the epilogue the girls reflect on Uncle Joe’s tale.

Saturday, October 31: (B)THE DUNBRODY FAMINE SHIP AND

BACKSTAGE OPERA HOUSE VISIT: After Buffet Breakfast at the Talbot, we

meet our Guide and Coach for the drive to the Dunbrody Famine Ship, a vessel used to shuttle Irish citizens to America in order to escape the potato famine.

The Dunbrody ship is a reconstruction of the original Dunbrody, built in Quebec in 1845 by Thomas Hamilton Oliver, an Irish emigrant. Our Tour begins with a 9 minute audio-visual presentation in the visitor centre which gives the historic background to the Great Famine, and the reason why so many people were forced to emigrate on sailing ships like the Dunbrody to America in the mid-19th century. We then follow in the footsteps of a group of Famine emigrants as you board the Dunbrody and explore the ship.

Following our visit of the Dunbrody, we board our Coach for the drive to the Wexford Opera for our Private Backstage Tour of this unique Opera House.

Three women are at the heart of Hérold’s last and finest opéra comique, but in 1572, they are little more than pawns in a male- dominated society. Nicette is the exception, happy about her forthcoming marriage to Girot, hotelier from the Pré aux Clercs (‘Clerks’ Meadow’), across the Seine from the Louvre.

Marguerite de Valois, Nicette’s godmother, is the wife of King Henry of Navarre and sister of the King of France–Henri III, but is held in Paris as a virtual prisoner, to serve as a hostage for peace.

A young countess, Isabelle, Marguerite’s lady-in-waiting, is in love with Baron de Mergy of Navarre and he with her, but Henri wishes her to marry the Comte de Comminge.

She is told she may return to Navarre but Isabelle must marry Comminge.

Marguerite helps Mergy & Isabelle marry secretly. Mergy kills Comminge in a duel and escapes with Isabelle across the border to Navarre.

Monday, November 2: (B, D)WATERFORD-BALLYOWEN HOUSE:After Buffet breakfast at the Talbot, we meet our Driver-Guide and board our Coach to LIMERICK. En route, we visit Waterford –the oldest city in Ireland- a walled City of Viking origins. We visit the Waterford Crystal Visitor Center, the famous producer of world-class crystal. The tour includes the traditional production areas; wooden mould making, crystal blowing and furnace, crystal cutting and quality inspection and finishing. We can shop at the most famous crystal store, which has the largest collection of Waterford Crystal in the world. We then continue our drive, stopping at the BALLYOWEN HOUSE, a Neo-Classical Georgian Estate dating back to 1750, set in an elegant elevated Parkland setting near Cashel town in Tipperary. The Tour, led the owners, visits the main rooms of the beautiful Ballyowen House, the Stableyard and Grounds outside. We’ll learn the history of the House and of Georgian Architecture.

Evening– This evening, we meet at the Talbot Lobby, and stroll to the Wexford Opera Festival to attend:

    Mascagni’s GUGLIELMO RATCLIFF(Wexford Opera House).

Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana is clearly anticipated in the music of Guglielmo Ratcliff, particularly in the atmospheric orchestral writing, filled with full-blooded melodies and dramatic pace. The role of Guglielmo Ratcliff is one of the most demanding roles ever written for a tenor.

The Opera is set in Northern Scotland. Maria MacGregor has rejected Guglielmo

Ratcliff as a husband but he’s determined that no-one else shall marry her and challenges other suitors to duels, killing two of them. As Maria prepares to marry Count Douglas, she learns that her mother and Guglielmo’s father had loved each other. The lovers later resumed their relationship, but Maria’s father, MacGregor, killed Guglielmo’s father out of jealousy and Maria’s mother died of a broken heart. Guglielmo is haunted by the ghosts of the men he has killed and in his final delirium he kills Maria, her father and himself.

Sunday, November 1: (B, D)Free Day- Today is at leisure, to perhaps attend a church service, and pack for our next day's journey to Limerick.

Evening– Tonight, we meet at the Talbot Lobby, and stroll to a popular Restaurant nearby, for our Pre-Opera Dinner with wine.

Ferdinand Hérold’s LE PRÉ AUX CLERCS(Wexford Opera Festival).

Dingle town itself is a thriving fishing town for shopping or simply savoring the atmosphere of a typical country Irish town with its plentiful Pubs, narrow streets and busy Harbor. The road around the Peninsula is truly spectacular. The Dingle Peninsula will charm us with its Villages painted in bright colors and will bewitch you with the dramatic beauty of its Landscapes.

Tuesday, November 3: (B)BURREN AND CLIFFS OF MOHER:After our Buffet English Breakfast at the Savoy, we will meet our Guide and board our Coach for the scenic drive through the Burren Region:The Burren, part of which forms the Burren National Park, is a Karst Limestone region of 300 sq. km of limestone pavements, which eroded to a distinctive pattern. This pavement is criss-crossed by cracks known as Grykes in which grow a myriad of wild flora and under which are huge caves and rivers which may suddenly flood when it rains. The Burren contains dozens of megalithic Tombs and Celtic crosses as well as a ruined Cistercian Abbey dating back to the 12th century. The flora on the Burren is a mixture of Arctic,Mediterranean and rare flowers – Gentian, Orchids and Bloody Cranesbill– truly an exceptional part of Ireland. We then arrive at the renowned Cliffs of Moher– the most visited spot in Ireland and one of the Emerald Isle’s most recognizable features. Situated on the Atlantic Ocean and border-ing the Burren Area, the Cliffs of Moher are one of Ireland's most spectacular sights. Standing 230 metres above the ground at their highest point and 8 km long, the Cliffs boast one of the most amazing views in Ireland. On a clear day, the Aran Islands are visible in Galway Bay as well as the valleys and hills of Connemara. The Cliffs reach their highest point just north of O' Brien's Tower built by Cornelius O’ Brien, a descendant of Brian Boru, to entertain his lady friends.

During our journey in Dingle Peninsula, we have our FAREWELL LUNCHEON at the Michelin-recommended Global Village Restaurant, ranked as the best Restaurant in Kerry in 2013. The Global Village uses the local foods- fresh fish and seafood from inshore local fisherman, fresh meat from farmers and seasonal vegetables grown in the Global Village’s chemical free vegetable garden.Evening– Our last evening is free to relax, explore other parts of Limerick on our own, try a local Pub, and pack for our journey home the next day.
