Experience
Last Contract: Nov 2013 to Sept 2015: 21 month retainer/contract. Contract brief to
migrate Viking Seatech Survey from NaviPac to Blue Spider Survey with 3D Visualisation and
Catenary modelling for mooring operations, including integration with OrcaFlex. As
surveyor/engineer, carried out regular anchor pre-lays and rig moves (for ENI/SIAPEM) using
Blue Spider Survey as the multi vessel positioning system. Responsible for design and set
up of a survey workshop in Perth (Aus) and providing Blue Spider training to staff and
contractors as part of this role. Contract ceased in Sept 2015 due to a 3 month period
between rig moves where the monthly retainer was no longer viable for Viking SeaTech.

Previous: Jan to Mar 2013: Senior Surveyor for C&C Technologies, Pipe Line / rig inspection
and survey ops, QLD Australia. Included mobilisation of multibeam on small vessel of
opportunity. EIVA Navipac, NaviScan, NaviEdit, C-Nav, Reson MBES. Extensive use of
Fledermaus to process and present multibeam survey data to client.
Previous Long Term Contract: Senior Surveyor, 15 years in cable laying industry with Cable &
Wireless, Global Marine Systems (current contract). Involved with Blue Spider Survey
development. (Formally Navigator). Functions also included Survey party chief, online
surveyor, survey engineer, software / systems trainer, client representation, client reporting
& advising, and sales representation for Global Marine at trade shows.
My offshore and survey experience began in 1984 with Decca Survey (UK).

Occupational Interests
Blue Spider Development. Calibrations, attention to detail prior to start of project and
during project. Quality Control. Providing accurate and meaningful reports for clients. 3D
visualisation and data processing. Prevention of poor data acquisition and foresight of
preventable problems. Suggesting and implementing improvements in systems and
procedures. Creation of Excel macro’s to speed up data processes is also an interest.
Recreational Interests
I have established a holiday cottage business in Australia (www.ruddlesretreat.com.au).
Other interests include classic car restoration, photography, flying, cycling, camping and
travelling Australia. When home I have been involved with part-time training CELCAT™
Timetabling software in Universities and TAFES around Australia. I also write Excel macro’s
for small local companies.

Experience with most survey suites including Navigator and Eiva. HPR Sonardyne Ranger and
Kongsburg Simrad systems, TSS 440/350 pipe/cable track systems, PHINS, ROVINS,
sidescans, multibeams, profilers, bathy, general subsea survey devices on ROV and Ploughs.

Competent configuring and working with all Microsoft Operating Systems and networking
generally. Very experienced with all MS Office tools including writing Excel™ VB macros to
assist with data processing and reporting.

Fully conversant with all aspects of RS232, RS422, RS485, TCP/IP interfacing, Wireless
networking, radio telemetry systems for remote monitoring and barge management
systems.
