CAPSTONE EXPERIENCEThe Capstone experience differs from major to major, but its purpose is to ensure that all seniors demonstrate their accumulated knowledge through action and effectively communicate their knowledge and actions to others in an interdisciplinary setting.

guy floyd williams awardThe Guy Floyd Williams Award is presented to a graduating science major who has helped to maintain and perpetuate the ideals of the college during the graduate’s years at Colby-Sawyer and who, through appropriate conduct, scholarship and decorum, has exemplified the spirit of the college.

richard crosby memorial awardThe Richard Crosby Memorial Award was established in 1976 in honor of Professor Crosby, a member of the English Department from 1952 to 1976. The award is given to a student who excels in the knowledge and appreciation of British literature.

alpha chi awardThe Alpha Chi Award is given to one or more graduating students who, in the eyes of the members of Alpha Chi, best exemplifies the ideas of the society – truth and character – through work at the college in support of chapter activities.

iota tau alpha for athletic training educationThe college’s chapter of this honor society promotes, recognizes and encourages outstanding scholarly achievement of students enrolled in the athletic training education major. Members must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and rank in the top 35 percent of their class. Honor cords of red, yellow and blue are worn by graduates.

lambda pi eta, the honor society of the national communication associationThe college’s chapter of this national honor society in communication studies fosters and rewards outstanding scholastic achievement in the field of communication. Members must have completed 60 credit hours, with 12 in communication studies courses; have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a minimum GPA of 3.25 in communication studies courses; and rank in the top 30 percent of their class. psi chi, the national honor society in psychologyThe purpose of this national honor society in psychology is to encourage, stimulate and maintain excellence in scholarship and to advance the science of psychology. They must have completed at least three college semesters and nine credits of psychology courses and be enrolled in a program of study with strong psychological content. STUDENT RECOGNITION AWARDS

ann gulick awardThis award was established in memory of Ann Gulick ’54 by her classmates. It is presented to the sophomore student who best exemplifies, through voluntary service, the qualities of reliability, loyalty and unselfishness. The recipient of this award is chosen by vote of the sophomore class.

edith stockman ruettinger awardThe gift of a member of the class of 1932, this award is granted to a female student in the liberal arts program who is continuing her education toward a bachelor’s degree. The recipient is selected on the basis of scholarship, character, need and future goals.

gula graves plummer awardThis award is granted to the student or students who have distinguished themselves through the exercise of spiritual and/or moral leadership in the college community, or through academic work informed by their religious commitments.

graduate awardThe Graduate Award is presented each spring to the member of the graduating class whose character and influence most constructively affected the majority of the junior class members. The recipient of this award is chosen by the junior class.
