Hal BeckerThe Becker Group

Hal Becker is a nationally known expert on sales, customer service, and negotiating. He conducts seminars or consults to more than 140 organizations a year. His client list includes IBM, Disney, New York Life, United Airlines, Verizon, Terminix, AT&T, Pearle Vision, Cintas, and hundreds of other companies and associations.

At 22, Hal was Xerox’s #1 salesperson among a national sales force of 11,000, and then founded and became CEO of Direct

Opinions, one of America’s first customer service telemarketing firms that administers more than two million calls per year. He now spends his time consulting and presenting lectures around the world.

Hal is the author of “Can I have 5 Minutes Of Your Time?” which is now in its 21st printing and is used by many corporations as their “Sales Bible.” He has also authored three other best sellers including “Lip Service,” one of the nations foremost books on customer service, and “Get What You Want,” a fun, upbeat and fresh approach to negotiating. Hal’s latest book on sales is titled the “Ultimate Sales Book.”

He has been featured in publications including The Wall Street Journal, Business Week, Inc., Magazine, Nation’s Business and hundreds of newspapers and radio/TV stations around the world, and is currently syndicated in over 45 newspapers and magazines.

Hal has received the Toastmasters International Communication and Leadership Award. He is one of only eight people in the world to be given this honor. In 2010 Salesgurus.net voted Hal as one of the “World’s top 30 Professional Sales Trainers.”

Hal’s civic involvement is quite diverse. He is a past Chairman of his Chamber of Commerce, and has served as a trustee of the following organizations: Better Business Bureau, March of Dimes, Council of Smaller Enterprises, University of Akron Business School, Cleveland Health Museum/Natural History Museum, Healthy Cities Ohio, and Montefiore Nursing Home.

After battling cancer, Hal founded the Cancer Hotline, a non profit organization that provides support and assists cancer patients and their families. He donates proceeds of his books to this cause.

BBB Champions of Integrity have consistently displayed an aggressive commitment to ethical, honest and fair business practices in the conduct of their business careers in the Greater Cleveland area, as demonstrated by leadership in efforts or organizations promoting business self-regulation, ethical business practices, consumer education and/or advancing consumer/business trust and confidence in the integrity of the marketplace.

CHAMPIONS OF INTEGRITY

Page 5: 2015 Celebration of Integrity

Tom Griffin Owner Mayfield Collision Centers

Tom founded Mayfield Collision Centers 26 years ago with a focus on

customer satisfaction. Tom began his automotive career by working in

service departments and repair management teams for leading area

car dealerships where he received extensive training in automotive

repair management and customer service. Starting as a service adviser, his passion for creating

a customer-centered environment and exceeding client expectations propelled him to the role of

assistant general manager with Motorcars Honda. In 2014, Mayfield Collision Centers was named

“Top Shop” by Auto Body Repair Network, was the first body shop to be selected as a “North Coast

99” Best Places to Work by the Employers Resource Council, and was recognized by the Solon

Chamber of Commerce as “Business of the Year.” Tom was also named Body Shop Business

Collision Repair Executive of the Year that same year. Tom’s influence extends beyond his industry

through his support of local Little League teams, service on Advisory Committees that help local

vocational programs, and participation in 3M’s “Hire our Heroes” programs. His support of an

employee whose wife did two tours in Iraq earned him the rare distinction of “Patriotic Employer”

from the Department of Defense.

George QuaFormer Owner Qua Buick

George’s Father put him to work at the family dealership in 1957.

Following in his Father’s footsteps, George became an advocate for

self-regulation in auto advertising practices. He was an early promoter

of arbitration and helped create a program for auto dealer associations to use BBB arbitration. He

served on BBB’s Board from 1971-1977. George won Buick’s highest honor “Best in Class” award at

least five times and routinely had the highest Customer Satisfaction Index ratings of any local Buick

dealer. Time magazine named Qua a “Quality Dealer of the Year” which honors new car dealers who

exhibit exceptional performance and distinguished community service.

George’s influence extends far beyond the auto industry, however. His 60 years of work with

the Boy Scouts program earned him a 2010 National Hall of Fame Leadership Award on the

100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America. He helped to organize the Buckeye Woodland

Community Congress - the first of its kind in the nation, and still maintains an office at E. 103rd

and Buckeye. George served in the military for 32 years, 28 in active reserve, and was inducted

into the Ohio Veteran’s Hall of Fame in 2010, having won many awards tied to his military service

including the Legion of Merit. During his military career, George was admissions coordinator for

the U.S. Military Academy (West Point) for Northern Ohio, a graduate of the Army War College and

U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and served as special assistant to the Chairman

of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon. The Red Cross and Big Brothers/Big Sisters have also

benefited from George’s commitments. He has awards from both organizations for saving lives

and still keeps in touch with a “little brother” who is now a 1st Lieutenant working for Homeland

Security.
