Dreams made real in 2015

FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Building Goodness Foundation (BGF) is a nonprofit that connects skilled volunteers from the design and construction industries with vulnerable communities at home and abroad. In partnership with best-practice NGOs and nonprofits, we build critically-needed schools, clinics, homes, and centers for ecological and economic development.

This annual report is the fulfillment of many years of community dreaming. Even as far back as 2002 the townspeople of San Sebastian, El Salvador, and UVA students envisioned a clinic where Red Cross volunteers could reach out to their community. This is the year that was accomplished.

Take a look. In this report are many other community organizations which needed critical space to educate, heal, shelter and organize. With patience and commitment, they joined with BGF volunteers and funders to build and improve. It was more than a transaction of goods and services, it was a relational collaboration that brought lives together. With persistence and hard work the results are born. The doors are open and the spaces are in use. The world is a better place in those communities.

Volunteers, I hope you are immensely satisfied with what you have accomplished.

Donors, I hope you feel deeply the good results of your generosity.

Community partner organizations and friends, we wish you all the best. You have blessed us with the privilege of helping, and your well-being has become part of our own.

Honored always to serve with you at BGF,

Kelly Eplee Executive Director Building Goodness Foundation

DOMESTIC PROJECTS

Carlton officeA permanent home for BGF

When we decided to build our own building, BGF made a commitment to do so without negatively impacting other projects - and we’ve been successful. Funding for the new office came from donors specifically designating gifts to the new space, without reducing funding for BGF local and international work.

In addition to increasing local service hours to nearly 2,500 in 2015, BGF volunteers also logged 1,500 volunteer hours building the new office.

The Carlton office will host volunteer trainings, leadership meetings, and public forums when complete in 2016.

Colorado, 2015In 2015, our new Boulder , CO affiliate sent volunteers on international trips with Charlottesville volunteers, executed several projects in Boulder, and geared up for an even bigger year in 2016. In 2015, Boulder volunteers put in approx. 200 hours of labor on a little library improvement project (pictured at left), and spent about 300 hours painting the Jamestown Fire Station.
