We are pleased to share our 2015 Gratitude Report with you. Through your support, last year Tacoma Community House completed 105 years of service to the South Puget Sound region – to 2,700 adults and youth from the U.S. and over 90 other countries.

We welcome those who come to TCH eager and motivated to learn English, secure employment and establish a rewarding new life for their families in their new home. TCH is proud to support immigrants and refugees – side by side with our U.S. born clients – on their journeys to embracing the American promise.

Because of your generosity, TCH is able to o�er a full range of services to assist clients in reaching their goals. Our Immigration and Citizenship program served over 1,800 persons in 2015, a huge increase from the year before. All of our sta� are now accredited by the Bureau of Immigration Appeals and provide an array of services including citizenship assistance, legal permanent residency renewals and family reuni�cation visas. Immigration and Citizenship is now our largest program.

The Education and Employment programs continue to assist individuals with basic skills and job preparation, with over 1,100 persons served last year. One innovation in Education was Project I-DEA, a partnership with the community/technical colleges and the Gates Foundation. English language learners studied at home on laptops and in the classroom to improve their English and computer skills. TCH was the only nonpro�t leading such a project in the state.

Client Advocacy continues its work assisting victims of crime to be safe, secure, heal and move forward with their lives. A new service is trauma sensitive yoga classes for victims, which has proved to be a valuable tool in the healing process.

The Read2Me program tested some new ways of tutoring struggling readers, including a summer program in partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs.

The opportunities for those we serve and the quality of their lives is greatly improved through these services and initiatives. None of this would be possible without your generous support. Thank you for your investments in the lives of those we serve!

A Tradition of Building CommunitiesTacoma Community House is driven by its stated vision: “We are a pathway to change leading to generations of self-su�cient people and a region welcoming of immigrants and refugees.” Located in Tacoma's Hilltop neighbor-hood and founded by Methodist women in 1910, TCH remains steadfast in its commitment to welcoming immigrants and refugees. Through your support, TCH builds community and transforms lives by meeting the needs of new and emerging populations. TCH’s history includes opening Tacoma's �rst baby clinic, o�ering the �rst organized kindergar-ten classes in the region, co-founding the Community Chest (today known as United Way of Pierce County), organizing the �rst racially integrated Boy and Girl Scout troops, and resettling refugees �eeing Southeast Asia in the 1970s and Eastern Europe in the 1980s. Today, TCH provides over 3,700 program services to 2,700 individuals annually through its four core programs: Education, Employment, Immigration and Advocacy

Employment services helps job seekers successfully

enter the work force, offering employment

assistance and job training. Currently TCH offers job

preparation and job placement services, access to

educational and career related technologies and

internships.

TCH provides comprehensive services for survivors

of domestic violence, sexual assault, human

trafficking and other crimes. Advocates assist

individuals to develop safety plans and identify their

immediate goals. TCH is also active in advocating

for social justice.

Immigration services at TCH are Board of

Immigration Appeals accredited programs that

provide high quality case management to all

individuals seeking immigration assistance from

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Services

include naturalization preparation and education,

legal permanent residency renewals, work

authorizations and many others.

The education department offers a range of

successful literacy and language programs at TCH,

including English Language Acquisition (ELA), Basic

Education for Adults (BEdA: reading, writing, and

math), computer classes, Read2Me (1st – 3rd grade

reading / tutoring), GED preparation, youth

education and support services.

TCH is the fiscal sponsor of the REACH Center, an empowerment resource for 16 – 24 year olds located at Goodwill’s Milgard Work Opportunity Center. In 2015, 2,700 young people received skills training, educational services and housing assistance.
