2014 wAS ANOTHER successful year for land auctions.The market for buying and/or leasing land changed throughout the year. Wenoticed grain land prices to level off and grazing land to increase. This shouldbe no surprise as it is a direct result of recent commodity prices. Throughoutthe year we had a variety of land that was SOLD or LEASED by Auction. Asyou can see by the results shown in the charts below, the land we offeredvaried a great deal from one area to the next. We also observed that thedemand in each area is unique. Some areas still maintain a large number ofsmall mixed farming operations, others may only have a few large operationsand a lot of areas have numerous mid-sized farm operations looking to expand.

The auction method of marketing is quickly becoming a preferred method ofbuying or selling farmland. Sellers like the convenience of a known date of saleallowing them to make forward plans. They also like the peace of mind knowing their property will be well marketedcreating a true market value by allowing all bidders equal opportunity to participate in open competitive bidding atthe auction. Buyers like the auction method because they know every interested party has a fair equal opportunity totake part in the bidding on a specific date. An auction is very transparent with bidders knowing exactly what their nextbid must be to stay involved in the sale. Bidders have confidence knowing they are only placing one bid higher thanwhat the last bidder was willing to pay.

Trends for grain land continued strong in some areas and slightly softer in others. Pasture land showed signs ofincreasing value later in the year. Land with recreational potential has also continued to create good demand.

FOR THE pAST 14 years Kramer Auctions has been conductingthe auction for Annual Ranch Horse Sale & 2 year old Prospect Sale andLloydminster Pfizer Stockade Roundup Beef Sale. Both of these popular showsare well respected in the Agricultural industry. Adding to the excitement of theshows Kramer’s have recently created a new Scholarship fund promoting the futureof youth involvement in Agriculture. When creating this they wanted to give eachand every youth the same opportunity to earn the scholarship. They decided tocreate a Senior Showmanship Scholarship award of $1500.00. This award will begiven to the youth each year that participates in the Senior Showmanship Beefclass at Stockade Roundup and will be awarded to the youth that shows the mostspirit in Showmanship. This means that the winner won’t necessarily have bestanimal in show but does the best with their animal and shows spirit. The funds fromthe scholarship will be held in Trust and applied to future Agricultural Studies. TheScholarship winner also has the ability, if they are eligible and are a 4-H member,to use some of the proceeds towards expenses for Provincial and National judgingcompetitions. ANOTHER yEAR HAS been wrapped up and 2015 is now upon us. Over the past year the Kramer Auctions family has volunteered theirauctioneering services to many different community service clubs and organizations to help raise funds in excess of $460,000. Some include multiple District4H Clubs, STARS Ambulance and Hospital Foundations to the Boys & Girls Club and Battleford’s Trade & Education Centre as well as many clubs &organizations in Southern Saskatchewan that the Somerville family volunteer their time to. By volunteering our auctioneering services, we assist numerousclubs & organizations to reach fundraising goals for projects they are focussed on. The funds spent on these projects help build stronger communities withdeeper roots which we all benefit from. We are a very community minded family business and help more than just community clubs and organizations. Whencalled upon, we and our staff volunteer our auctioneering skills and services to assist families who are in need of financial support due to an illness or suddentragedy. The Kramer Auctions family is proud to be a part of the Battlefords and area community as well as numerous other rural communities.

The Kramer family would like to thank their staff who volunteer their own time for these events. The Kramer’s would also like to extend their thanks to any ofthe volunteers that help organize these events as well as those who have attended any of the fundraisers and have participated in the bidding. Without yourparticipation & support, these events would not be successful.

George and Alice have lived in Birch Hills for 53 years. In those years they have been in constructionfor 48 years. Their work in water and sewer has taken them to as far north as La Loche, to MapleCreek in the south, Hudson Bay in the east, and a lot of places in between here in Saskatchewan.They look forward to a big change in their lives as they retire.
