Dear Friends of The Parkside School,The pages of this Annual Report of Gifts includenames of so many dedicated parents, volunteers, alumni and friends who understood and supportedthe work we did at Parkside over the course of the 2015-2016 school year. As we reflect on the year behind us, we are humbled by the generosity—of time, energy andfinancial resources—members of the Parkside community have offered the school. Whether volunteering on the Parent Association, giving to the Annual Fund, or participating in our SpringAuction, every contribution you made to Parksidehad a direct and immediate impact on our abilityto support our students. It was a year of achievements at Parkside, startingwith the launch of our vibrant new logo and website in September! We were delighted toreturn staffing to our library, and have reveled inwatching the excitement of the children checkingout books and listening to the many authors whovisited the school. A new social studies consultanthas been working with us to further develop ourcurriculum, and each student has learned how to utilize a digital portfolio application that allowsthem to curate their own work. The drama program put on a spectacular production ofAnnie, and the Arts Festival and Visitor Assembliesoffered a delightful peek into the achievementsbeing made in our classrooms. Just as our students are constantly learning andexpanding their horizons, our staff are passionateabout furthering their understanding of the worldand pursuing opportunities for professional development. We are proud to have our first article, “The Same Fish: Creating Space for Therapeutic

Relationships, Play, and Development in a Schoolfor Children with Special Needs,” published in The Psychoanalytic Study of the Child, thanks tothe collaborative efforts of the Social Work department. All staff members had the opportunityto attend the New York State Association ofIndependent Schools Special Education Conference, the first such event, where we discussed integratingbest practices for children who learn differently, effective classroom behavior management, fluencyinstruction, citizen leadership and had the opportunity to share and learn from other schoolson a variety of other topics. At Parkside, the staffparticipated in a wide selection of special trainings, workshops and coaching sessions that fosterednew ideas and creative energy in how theyapproach their work with students. None of these things would have been possiblewithout the support of our community. For thethirteenth year in a row, we are honored to be able to say that 100% of current families contributed to the Annual Fund, resulting in morethan $730,000 in unrestricted dollars that supportevery aspect of a Parkside education. Paired withthe exceptional fundraising efforts of our ParentAssociation, the school benefitted from more than$880,000 in contributions and many gifts in kindthat enabled Parkside to flourish. The community spirit of The Parkside School hasshown us time and time again that possibilities arelimitless when we work together. It is your supportwhich propels Parkside forward, enabling us to beinnovative in our approach to education andadaptive to the needs of our students and staff. We look forward to continuing to open new doorsof possibility in the months and years ahead. Thank you for all you do in support of Parkside.

The Parkside Parent Association (PA) is committedto supporting the Parkside School's mission ofserving the whole child. To this end, we are proudto share how our engaged and committed community rallied to support the School we hold in such high regard. In the fall of 2015, Parkside welcomed 19 newfamilies. The New Parent Cocktail Party was a wonderful start to the year, held on the rooftop of a lovely apartment on the Upper East Side on a warm September evening. Families took the firststeps to building new friendships knowing thatthey instantly had something extremely importantin common—their journeys to Parkside. InDecember, Parkside hosted its Annual Book Fairfor the first time at Book Culture on ColumbusAvenue. The two day event was generouslyextended through the weekend by the store’sowner, and was a huge success. Many familiesshopped for the holidays, and each class made aspecial trip to the store where students were ableto choose a book to purchase. In the evening, friends and family enjoyed cheese and wine whilebrowsing through the vast array of items. Weraised over $2,100 with the proceeds being usedto purchase books for the library and classrooms! Also in December, we continued the “WinterWonderland” theme for the Holiday Party. Roomswere adorned with festive art decorated by thechildren and large 3D snowflakes made byParkside parents. The event was a culinary treat as families prepared dishes representing their cultures and traditions. Children ran about theschool engaging in a variety of activities includingspin art, face painting, crafts and the ever popularphoto booth where they got to dress to impress. For the first time we had an extremely popularwalk-in petting zoo where children and adultscould pick up a variety of insects and mammals!

Our second Fly for Parkside fundraising event tookplace at Flywheel in January, with parents, alumni, staff, and friends coming together to sweat it outon 80 bikes to raise a grand total of $7,265.Throughout the year, parents were hard at workplanning for the Annual Spring Auction which thisyear included an online auction. At the main event, attendees wore masks in keeping with theMasquerade theme while enjoying the food andambiance of the Bryant Park Grill and biddingright from their smartphones. Thanks to thetremendous effort of our entire community, therewere a plethora of items and experiences featuredin the auction including vacation homes, sportingevent tickets, restaurant gift certificates, and spaservices to name a few. As is always the case, thechildren's beautiful artwork ignited bidding wars.We are proud to report this year's auction raisedover $134,000 for Parkside’s Art & Movement programs. The PA continued to acknowledge the staff fortheir incredible talents, guidance, and dedicationby providing snacks for the monthly staff meetings. In addition, we hosted the Staff AppreciationCocktail Party in May. The gym was transformedinto a spa and bar-like atmosphere with food, amimosa bar, chocolate fountain and massage station. The PA would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Parkside community. None of these accom-plishments would have been possible withoutyour perseverance, commitment, and most importantly, time. We are delighted to have raisedmore than $146,000 in support of our belovedschool during the 2015-2016 academic year. Each and every dollar is critical to Parkside’s abilityto provide each child with a multi-dimensional education, one that allows them to develop respectand understanding for themselves and others, and we thank you for joining us in these efforts.

We were able to be ourselves at Parkside and that was agreat self esteem builder.”
