2015 INDIANA STATE FAIR CHEERLEADING COMPETITION

Welcome to the 2015 Indiana State Fair Cheerleading Competition. We appreciate your efforts in preparing for this event. Best wishes to all of you at the competition, and we hope you have a safe and enjoyable day at the Indiana State Fair.

TERMS AND CONDITIONSELIGIBILITY:1. The Indiana State Fair Cheerleading Competition is open to Indiana junior high or high school

game-cheering squads. (A game-cheering squad is one that cheers in actual game situations.)

2. Each participant, male or female, must be currently enrolled in an Indiana junior high or high

school and must be a member in good standing of the competing game-cheering squad.

3. Squad members graduating from high school in 2016 or after are eligible to compete; 2015

graduates are not eligible.

4. An Indiana school may enter its varsity, junior varsity (reserve) or junior high squads in the

competition.

5. The eligibility of all participants must be certified by the cheerleader coach and high school

principal or athletic director, both of whom must sign the official entry form.

6. Junior varsity (reserve) and varsity squads MAY NOT COMPETE TOGETHER.

7. Freshman squads that are selected by their high schools as junior varsity squads may compete in

the junior varsity (reserve) competition. Freshman and junior varsity squads MAY NOT COMPETE

TOGETHER.

8. 7th & 8th grade squads may compete separately or may be combined in the junior high division.

9. All spotters must be members of the competing game-cheering squad.

10. Any violation of eligibility Terms and Conditions will result in disqualification. If any violation of the

Terms and Conditions of the 2015 Cheerleading Competition is observed, a school's coach or

adult designee must file a written protest with the Cheerleading Competition Coordinator the day

of the competition prior to the presentation of awards. The final decision on any written protest will

be made by the Indiana State Fair Board Director.

ENTRIES11. NEW for 2015: Each school entering its cheerleading squad(s) in the Indiana State Fair Cheer-

leading Competition must do so online at www.indianastatefair.com. Click on the “competitions” tab, then the “Contests” link. As part of the online entry, the Cheerleading Coach will be asked to submit their School Principal’s name and email address. By completing the online registration, the School Principal will be sent an email notification letting him/her know the squad(s) entered into the 2015 Indiana State Fair Cheerleading Competition. 12. Each squad will be required to pay the entry fee, which will cover Fair admission for all participants. (See Number 15) Online entry through July 10, 2015 requires a $50 entry fee. Online entry July 11-17, 2015 requires a $100 entry fee. Entries after July 17, 2015 will not be accepted.

13. The online entry fee payable by credit card. a. If the Cheerleading Coach has access to and approval to use the school credit card:

Complete the online entry, proceed through “checkout,” enter the card information and complete the online entry process.

b. If the Cheerleading Coach does NOT have access to or approval to use the school credit card: Complete the online entry to the point of “checkout”. Leave the registration in the

“cart” but do not pay. The registration will remain in the Indiana State Fair Entry system, incomplete. Coaches must MAIL the entry fee, paid by school check, made payable to: Indiana State Fair Cheerleading Competition. Upon receipt by the ISF Entry Department, the Cheerleading Coach will receive an email when the registration has been updated and deemed “complete”. Entry fee checks postmarked after July 17, 2015 will not be accepted.

ORGANIZATION OF COMPETITION14. The order of performance for all squads will be determined by a draw. All squads will be advised

of their appearance order and approximate performance time prior to the competition. A random draw for all finalists will take place prior to the announcements of the finalists. The order of performance will be announced after the finalists are announced for each division.

15. Cheerleaders and coaches only will be admitted to the Indiana State Fairgrounds free of charge

for the Cheerleading Competition. In order to receive parking stickers, cheer coaches must pro-vide on the competition entry form the accurate number of vehicles that will transport the squad(s)

to the competition.

PERFORMANCE16. Total performance time for the non music routine is two (2) minutes for the Junior High, Junior

Varsity, and Small and Large Non-Music divisions. Total performance time for the music Small

and Large Varsity divisions is two (2) minutes and thirty (30) seconds. Music may only be used

for up to one (1) minute and thirty (30) seconds of the routine. Squads going over this time will

receive ten (10) penalty points. If squads in the music divisions go over the allowed time for

music use, they will receive ten (10) penalty points.

17. The announcer will tell the squad they may take the mat. Once they are on the mat, the announc-

er will say, “You may begin.” The timing begins with the first word or motion after the “you may

begin” directive. Timing ends when one member of the squad signals by a wave to the judges that

the routine done. The squad may then exit the stage.

18. Dimensions of the performance area on the stage are approximately 40' deep by 40' wide.19. The performance area will be matted with nine (9) mats for safety. Any squad going out of

bounds off the designated performance area (mats) will will receive ten (10) penalty points.

20. Each participant must compete in the appropriate uniform of his/her school.

21. Jewelry should not be worn during the performances.

22. Pom-poms are the only prop permitted for this competition. No signs are permitted.

23. Applicable safety rules will be enforced in this competition. We will be following the 2015-2016

National Federation Cheerleading Guidelines. It is the coach's responsibility to abide by these

rules.

High School Coaches - Please make a copy of this brochure and entry form for your Junior High coaches. There will not be a separate mailing to Junior High Schools.

JUDGING24. There will be three judges for each division in the preliminaries and four judges for each division in

the finals. Each judge will score all areas of the competition. The combined total of all three/four judges respectively will determine the top squads.

25. In addition, two penalty judges will be seated with the other judges and will score all penalties. The penalty judges will record penalty points on one penalty sheet for each squad. Any penalty points will be deducted from a squad's combined total score.

26. Ties in all divisions will be reviewed and broken by all three/four judges.

PRESENTATION OF AWARDS27. Names of the top five finalists in all divisions will be announced after the large varsity portion of

the preliminary round. All trophies will be awarded at the conclusion of the large varsity with music division in the final round.

28. At the end of the Fair, a complete list of finishers and their points for all squads in the competition

will be emailed to all cheer coaches whose squads participated in the competition.

VIDEO TAPING29. Videotaping of the competition will be allowed. You may videotape from your seats, but please use

courtesy while taping.

INCLEMENT WEATHER30. In the event of inclement weather, all attempts will be made to hold the contest. After completion of

the preliminary session, the weather and performance area will be evaluated and a decision will be made by the Cheerleading Coordinator and Indiana State Fair officials to determine whether the finals session can be held. In the event the performance area cannot be used for competition during the finals session, preliminary scores will determine a squad’s final placement for presentation of trophies

and cash awards.
