On the Road Again!A1000 Islands Cruise with the Rockport Boat Line, the best line in the Islands.

2

3

Our Captain today is Captain Kathleen Allen

4

The crew today will be handled by She Who Must be Obeyed III (our grand daughter Ally) – not a bad summer job during the university break. Ally is entering her 4th and final year in the BSc in Nursing Program at the University of Ottawa. This time next year, God willing, she’ll be a full-time RN working in the Ottawa/Brockville/Kingston area…

7

St Brendan’s Roman Catholic Church on the St Lawrence River in the scenic Village of Rockport, Ontario. The Church was founded in 1919

8

Our Lady of Peace overlooking the St Lawrence River and the 1000 Islands from in front of St Brendan’s Church

10

The cost of Real Estate along the River is ASTRONIMICAL…

11

A multi-purpose summer home. Includes the Boat House for 2 or 3 vessels and a 3 or 4 bedroom ‘residence’ in one glorious building.

12

13

I just love these multi-purpose buildings, they are just fabulous including the boathouse and the cottage itself!

14

15

16

If you can’t afford the real-estate, how about “a hole in the water” for amere $150,000 to $200,000 for which you are simply required to pourmoney down the ‘rat hole’ for gas, oil and other stuff…

17

18

As we cruised along, there were so many summer homes going through the renovations process just like this one…amazing the money being spent on these summer homes…

19

And there on the point is a statue of the St Lawrence after whom themighty River was named by Samuel de Champlain when he explored thearea in the early 1600’s.

20

We met St Lawrence the Deacon and Martyr when we visited Panitanin Capiz Province in Philippines earlier in 2015 for the full story on his martyrdom.

21

22

23

The cottages along the river range from the ultra modern to the rustic and historic old places such as this one…

24

25

One of the highlights of the cruise is passing under the 1000 IslandsInternational Bridge which spans the river from Ivy Lea, Ontario toAlexandria Bay, New York. It was opened in 1939 by Prime MinisterMacKenzie King and President Franklin Delano Roosevelt .

A group of young ladies sunning themselves on “The Dock of the Bay”

37

38

The 1000 Islands Sky Deck Observation Tower is located on HillIsland, Ontario and provides breathtaking vistas of the Islands and thesurrounding countryside.

39

Idyllic scenes such as this one almost make you believe that you are inthe wilderness hundreds of miles from the nearest civilization when inreality it might just be around the next bend in the river…

40

44

45

46

47

48

49

50

the asking price is just a little over cad $2,000,000 , now, we know you’reinterested, so the line forms to the right…

51

this is the first of the cottages on the USA side of the river that we cansee close-up and personal…

52

whaddya think? could you handle living here during the summer months(May to September)?

53

or maybe you’d prefer this little gem…two islands, on the left in Canada and on the right in the USA and

54

they’re connected by the shortest international bridge in the world, theowner is a Dutch Canadian, that’s why the Dutch flag is on the bridge.

55

56

57

This is one of my absolute favourite summer homes in the islands. It’sbuilt partly over the water and is on its own island which appears toconsists of mainly virgin forest…what a fabulous place.

58

59

60

61

and here, interrupting our leisurely cruise is one of the speed demonsfrom the competition…

62

63

Our first glimpse of historic Boldt Castle…one of the largest of the20 or so castles built along the river in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

64

65

66

The Power House:

67

68

69

The Entry Arch

70

The Alster Tower or Playhouse

71

The Playhouse

72

The Power House

73

The Boathouse

74

75

this is one of the smallest and affordable cottages in the islands – justnext door to Boldt Castle and was sold just in the past 5 years for alittle over $800,000. such a deal!! Did anyone mention location, location, location next to Boldt Castle and almost in the Alexandria Bay NYharbour…

76

77

78

Check out the size of the boat tied to the front dock. And that’s a year round home…

79

One of the many resorts along the US shores of the river in the Islands

80

Another boat, that is likely as expensive and as big the small cottage!

81

Magnificent boathouse/cottage, on the USA side of the river!

82

83

84

85

86

87

88

Repairs/renovations being made to the tower and widow’s walk

89

90

91

Absolutely fabby!

92

Actually, to be honest, I’m looking for something just a little smaller…

93

Another magnificent home for the “rich and famous”, in ‘suburban’Alexandria Bay, New York.

94

Incredibly beautiful!

95

Now there’s a place that’s more my speed! On an Island by itself.

96

And now for my all time favourite the place in the Islands that I love themost and would be happy to spend my days at. Unfortunately, it hasbeen listed for sales this summer at a cost approaching $2.5 million cad.

97

Alexandria Bay, New York coming into view.

98

99

100

The RCMP/Coast Guard Cutter on patrol through the islands onthe US side of the river…
