Our pool sessions are going to be affected this year. See p10
Thank you everyone who helped us over the two days - the people who stood and served, the stalwart washer-uppers, everyone who donated cakes and of course an enormous thank you to all the ‘eaters’ who came and consumed the food so willingly! (Btw, £732 is the biggest profit we have made in recent years.)
Vicky at Biblins - she said she had a good time but is that
what her face is saying?

SUMMER BBQ
9th August Meet Market Yard: 11am Cost £5 or £4 for young people Organiser: Pam Dixon
This is one of our annual fun events.
We will have races in the morning so come to join in some paddling fun and at the same time get an appetite for the meal - which will be a feast. While the races are going on the chicken pieces will be cooking beauti-fully and the salads will be dressing nicely. There is always plenty to eat.
We relax and eat at about 1.30pm. And after that if you want you can paddle again.
Bring your family if you can! They can have a go in an open boat if they like.
CIWW
2nd August Organiser: Jack Smiles

WYE RAPIDS
12th September Meet Market Yard: 8am Cost £15 Organiser: Rich Carter
We go back to the rapids we did at the Biblins weekend and we mess about on the moving water.
We park the cars at Wyedean Canoes (just above the rapids) and paddle the very short distance to the rapids.
We go back to the cars for lunch if we feel like it and then play some more in the afternoon.
You need to bring a packed lunch and a change of clothes for paddling. You can borrow any club kit on the morning.
We expect to be back at the club-house around 5pm.
This trip is for paddlers at Passport/One Star standard and above 10years old.
THE CLUBHOUSE IS OPEN
FOR PADDLING
Mondays 7-9pm. Wednesday club session 7-9pm.
RIVER FROME
20th September Meet Market Yard: 9am Cost £3 Organiser: to be arranged
A local trip on one of our favourite rivers. So there’s no long car journey today.
The River Frome is mostly flat but there are weirs to have some fun on.
Which section we do is uncertain - we will decide on the day. If we do the Creamery section we get seven weirs and if we do the section below we get the Zoom Flume which is a bit different!
You need to bring a change of clothes and a packed lunch.
This trip is for paddlers at Passport/One Star standard.

What is happening to our weekly pool sessions this
autumn?
The pool is to be closed from October to Christ-mas, which absolutely wipes out our Friday pool sessions at the Frome Sports Centre.
Work is to be done to the changing rooms and the plant room, not the pool, but the pool is obviously out of action all this time.
So our regular meeting times will therefore be the fortnightly Saturday afternoon sessions at the clubhouse.
A young one in the Ocoee at the Biblins rapids and he didn’t swim. Who is this fearless paddler?
We have collected a substantial amount of unclaimed stuff recently. It is on display at every club session for you to look through. Items not claimed after a month will be taken to a charity shop.

Bits and Pieces
Our Kit Officer sells one of the lesser-used boats at Market Yard for Thank you Jack! We know that it is really to make space for the two new small Axioms that you have already ordered - so it’s good news all round.
FROM THE COMMITTEE RIVER LEADERS: The committee is looking to identify paddlers who are happy to be recorded as our River Leaders: ie be willing to lead groups in our programme of river trips.
This is to help the club comply with a new British Canoeing requirement, rather than us asking you to do more for the club than you already do. Please email Pam for more about this or to volunteer to be a river leader. 40th ANNIVERSARY Next year will be the club’s 40th year of operation. Not bad! How about we celebrate a bit? Any suggestions?
Look at this beautiful canoe!
James, Emma and Katie at Biblins this year, in a hand-crafted work of art. They didn’t take it too near the rocks by all accounts.
ONE MORE MINISLALOM!
We are looking to run one more in mid September.
The plan is to stick with a Friday evening, so keep 18th September free in your diary just in case !

Canoeing and kayaking are “Assumed risk” – “Water contact sports” that may carry attendant risks. Participants should be aware of and accept these risks, and be responsible for their own action and involvement.
Biblins weekend changed everything!
