What is a Data Management Plan?
What do they include?• What data will be created and how? • Outline the plans for sharing and preservation, noting what is appropriate given the
nature of the data • Any restrictions that may need to be appliedWho requires them?• Most of the RCUK with EPSRC as an exception • Some charities such as Cancer Research UK• Horizon2020 Data Pilots• Lancaster University! When are they required?• Most DMPs are required at the application stage• Exceptions:
– NERC: minimal DMP at application stage, expanded in collaboration with the relevant NERC data centre post award
– Horizon2020 data pilot: no DMP at application stage, but: three in-project iterations: one within 6 months, one midway through the project, and one at its conclusion.
• Lancaster University RDM Policy requires DMP “at funding application stage or at the beginning of the project”
