A Note from Kelli [Director]

The new off-leash dog park project which is located at 32nd and Swift in North Kansas City is moving right along. The fence is currently being installed and the next phase will be to lay the parking lot and trails. Work should be completed this summer. The wading pool at Dagg Park will not be open this summer. The Parks and Recreation department will be making some renovations to Dagg Park and the first will be to install a Spray Park. Residents who utilized the wading pool at Dagg Park will be eligible for a Dagg Family Swim Pass at the North Kansas City Community Center.

CHILDREN MAY REGISTER “WITH ONE BUDDY” FOR YOUTH TEAM SPORTS. BOTH REGISTRATION FORMS MUST BE RECEIVED ALONG WITH THE REGISTRATION FEE FOR EACH CHILD AT THE SAME TIME. IF YOU ARE NEW TO THE NKC SPORTS PROGRAM, YOU WILL BE PLACED ON A TEAM BY DEPARTMENT STAFF.

SUMMER FUN CAMPWe are YOUR CENTER for summer fun! This year’s camp runs from June 2, 2014 – August 8, 2014, and you can pick and choose which weeks that you would like to attend. Drop off starts at 7 am and pick up is no later than 6 pm. Fees range from $135-$150 per week.

This year campers, ages 5-14, will enjoy participating in daily activities that are designed to encourage creativity and overall wellness. Activities range from arts and crafts, team building events, kid fitness, swimming, rock climbing (ages 8+) weekly field trips, special guests and other indoor/outdoor activities. AMERICAN RED CROSS BABYSITTING BASICS11+ YRS| AMERICAN RED CROSSDesigned for students ages 11 and older, this course provides the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly care for infants and children up to the age of 10, as well as to manage a babysitting business. This course, which takes about 6 hours, offers hands-on skills practice and additional training in first aid. A digital certificate is available upon successful completion of this course. You will have an hour lunch break so bring a sack lunch or there are fast food restaurants close by.• Respond to emergencies with

CUPCAKE DECORATING8+ |Bring 12 baked cupcakes to class and learn the basics of cupcake decorating. Students will decorate the cupcakes in different themes using buttercream icing and learn different decorating techniques in class and how to use colored sprays and decorations on the cupcakes. The instructor will provide the icing and decorations for the cupcakes. Please bring a box to carry home the completed cupcakes. HORSE CAMP & TRAIL RIDE5-12 YRS| SUE BD STABLESDuring this minicamp riders will learn the basics of horse handling and safety. After each child learns the basics they will have plenty of saddle time to where they will really get to know their equine friend. Join North Kansas City Parks and Recreation for our new and exciting adult kickball league at Macken Park. Games will be played on Friday night. First 6 teams registered will play a 10 game round robin schedule. There are no uniform requirements and all league rules are governed by the WAKA rules.

MEMORIAL PARK Located at 716 East 23rd Avenue adjacent to the North Kansas City High School. The park is defined by a street meridian and contains several features commemorating the history of wars fought involving American citizens. A replica of the Statue of Liberty is located in Memorial Park.

MACKEN PARK Located at the corners of Clark Ferguson Drive and Howell Street is home to many varied park activities. This 60-acre park is utilized for sports leagues, walking, picnicking and several forms of recreation.

DAGG PARK Located at 715 East 21st Avenue just east of North Kansas City City Hall. This five-acre park provides a setting for family gatherings and passive activities.

PARK AMENITIESThe wading pool will no longer be available this summer. The Parks and Recreation Department is working on plans to install a Spray Park in its place. Residents who used the wading pool in the past may come to the North Kansas City Community Center and receive a Dagg Family Swim Pass at no charge for the summer 2014 season. • Playground• Public restroom building• Two picnic shelters
