WELCOME to the 2014-15 season! With a season of Revolution behind us, we’re off to a season of Fairy Tales and Fantasy! Fairy tales are present in every single culture on our planet – whether “once upon a time…” or “ in a galaxy far, far away…” or “one ring to rule them all and one ring to bind them…”, we seem drawn to hearing them, seeing them on television, or even creating new fairy tales.

I couldn’t be more delighted about the collection of shows we’ve brought together for this season. We open with Rossini’s Cinderella. I’m excited that New York fashion designer César Galindo will be joining a team with me and Jill Anna Ponasik to develop this incredible show. We then take you over the rainbow for The Wizard of Oz during the holidays. Much like In the Heights this past season, we will be taking you to warmer climates in the middle of winter with Once on This Island. I am honored that Bill Theisen agreed to come back to direct the piece. Next on the docket will be an incredible world premiere opera by Thai composer Somtow Sucharitkul. He will be starting from one of his own science fiction stories to develop The Snow Dragon. We will close the Cabot season with Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods. In our Studio Theatre, I will be collaborating with Danny Brylow to develop The Skylight Ring cycle. If they can do a Ring at the Met, LA Opera, and Houston Grand Opera, I figured we could do one as well… but with true Skylight style and panache… and in two hours.

I look forward to exploring Fairy Tales and Fantasy with you this season. As we did with the season of Revolution, we will incorporate amazing shows with our Discussion Series, Opera 101s, and a variety of other events to truly create a discussion about why we as people need Fairy Tales and Fantasy in our lives. It’s time to start dreaming!

endrillon. Cenerentola. Cinderella. No matter what she’s called, everyone knows her story - an innocent girl, wronged by her dysfunctional family, winds up marrying a handsome, kind

prince. Rossini’s unique retelling of this fairy tale favorite pre-dates Disney’s version of a pumpkin stage coach and a glass slipper. Rossini’s twists are delightful in this enchanting romantic comedy. A score of brisk, playful music, beautiful sets and stunning gowns by NYC fashion designer César Galindo will make all your wishes come true!

WORLD PREMIERE opera by award winning novelist and composer Somtow Sucharitkul. The Snow Dragon is the fantastical tale about a boy named Billy Binder who often

escapes to an imaginary world of eternal snow, where he rides a dragon, fights monsters and rescues princesses. Unfortunately, it’s also ruled by the evil and omnipresent ‘Ringmaster’ and his whip. Billy feels no pain in this magical universe, unlike the real world he faces at home. The Snow Dragon is a classic tale of good vs. evil. Experience this amazing new work before it heads to Thailand for a special performance for His Majesty the King!

or the first time ever, Skylight Music Theatre will take on The Ring Cycle. Traditionally a four-part opera marathon, Skylight will condense this epic tale into two action-packed hours of

drama. Gods, giants, dwarfs, maidens and mortals will meet their match with the heroic music of Richard Wagner. This is certain to be an event you won’t want to miss!

hen a baker and his wife learn they’ve been cursed with childlessness by the witch next door, they embark on a quest for the objects required to break the spell

– they lie, cheat and steal from Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel and Jack (yes, the one who climbed the beanstalk). Sounds like fun, right? But what happens after everyone’s wishes are granted? What happens after “Happily Ever After”? You’ll have to stick around for the second act to find out!
