YORK RIVER DISTRICT YOUTH CHOIR
YORK RIVER DISTRICT YOUTH CHOIR JUNE 19th --- JULY 3rd 2014The York River District Youth
Choir (YRDYC) is a choir of the United Methodist Church. The choir is made up of youth from local churches within the York River District. The purpose of YRDYC is to provide a way for the York River District Youth to fulfill their responsibilities as lay members of the church in a way that will help themselves, and the churches for whom they sing to grow in their understanding of what it means to be disciples of Jesus Christ in a global church.
This purpose will be carried ou t t h rough exc i t i ng and extensive training in Christian mission--focusing on ways in which mission is lived out through the United Methodist Church.
Since 1992, we have brought our mission of love to not only our local communities but to the Eastern Shore, Petersburg, Burlington NC, New Orleans, and even to the people of Russia.
In 2014, we will begin our trip with a brief visit to New York City and are excited about our time that we will be spending assisting in the ongoing recovery effort on the New Jersey coast that was devastated by Hurricane Sandy. We will be partnering with A Future with a Hope based out of New Jersey.www.afuturewithahope.com
While there, our mission objectives will be met by doing
hands-on work projects, sharing in bible study, and intense w o r s h i p a n d r e f l e c t i o n . Following our training, YRDYC will begin our 22nd tour with concerts beg i nn i ng i n N ew Jersey and concluding with multiple concerts on t he Yo r k R i ve r District.
The purpose of the York River District Youth Choir is three-fold:
1. To help young people better understand what the United Methodist Church is doing in mission--both locally and around the globe

2. To experience worship through music and mission, challenging others to embrace the fullness of life that comes from personal involvement in mission.
3. To help choir members and those for whom we sing better understand what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ in a truly “global” church.
YRDYC is open to 100 youth from age 14 through college age. The cost for the event is $550. This fee will cover all costs for training and the tour. Each youth is responsible for approximately 7 meals during the two week period and for personal spending money. Money for souvenirs, sightseeing, etc, will be at the discretion of participants and their parents.
In an effort to help avoid large payments at one time we have implemented a payment schedule. The first payment (non-refundable) of $150 is due February 28th. Followed by payments of $100 each month with the final payment due at registration.
L o c a l c h u r c h e s a r e encouraged to send these youth missionaries to this event. “Send” means not only to pay the full $550, but also to pray for them, have a service of commissioning for them before they leave, and use them for mission education e ve n t s u p o n t h e i r r e t u r n . Applicants should contact local p a s t o r s , U M W / U M M , o r chairpersons of the Work Area on Missions to seek this support.
