Or are we applying those energies to the possibilities? Imagination, creativity, insight, curiosity, innovation, original thought, free-thinking and ideas? Phrases like “I wonder if…,” “What about this….,” “You know what would be cool…” or my favorite: “I have an idea.”

Obviously, we need a balance to run an effective business. But I do know this: Great companies are always launched and built on the power of fresh ideas. They discover new and compelling ways to solve problems for customers. They play to win rather than playing not to lose.

History recognizes those who broke free from conventional wisdom and used their imaginations to create something special. This expands beyond businesses to include careers. And communities.

Now is the time for you to reconnect to your creative roots. When you were a kid, you spent much more time coming up with new ideas than worrying about all the things that could go wrong. This same disregard for the rules and focus on creativity has now become your most competitive weapon. To win in this new era of business, you need to tap into your true creative potential or run the risk of getting left in the dust.

Sharing concerns is fine, but let’s not forget the ideas. Let’s not forget that to reach our big, audacious goals, we must not only manage, we must also lead.

Cumberland 1209 a bright spot of the 2012 sale season. She is one of the deepest-bodied females ever bred and developed at LCCC, a true breeding female. Dave Schaffner invested $31,000 to own her, and he’s done a great job planning her matings to Aviator and Red Stallion.

Bonnie Princess 818X was crowned Grand Champion of the last Polled Congress,a long-held, storied, national Shorthorn sale we all miss. She was also named Supreme Champion of All Breeds that day! It was a heckuva show and sale. With a

bidder on the phone, I glanced up and saw my ol’ buddy Woody and Cindy bidding on the front row! I had no idea they wanted Bonnie Princess. Glad they got her! This is a special 818X daughter they’ve bred at TRS, by the full brother to Sonny!

When we acquired DF Starlet as a heifer calf from the Dixons in Canada, I knew we’d have a great cow after she won a lot of shows! She was a super show com-petitor, pictured here winning the Senior Heifer Calf division of the Agribition under judge Aaron Hahn. I watched on the internet from my hospital bed after heart surgery! This late May Low Rider x Starlet heifer calf is really good. Like her dam, she will show!
