Fundraiser for

SEAN REYES UTAH'S ATTORNEY GENERAL

Date: Monday February 24, 2014 When: 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Where: Capitol Hill Club, 300 First Street, SE, Washington, DC 20003

Come meet Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes, one of the most dynamic and successful young professionals in the country today. Having practiced for nearly fourteen years at Parsons Behle & Latimer, the largest law firm in Utah, Reyes became one of the first minority lawyers in Utah to make partner at a major firm.

Honored as the first-ever National Outstanding Young Lawyer by the American Bar Association, Reyes received a distinction bestowed on only one lawyer out of millions nationwide. He was also recognized as the Utah Young Lawyer of the Year, one of the forty most influential business leaders under the age of forty. His legal volunteer endeavors have included community education projects, free legal clinics, fundraising for pro bono legal services, clothing drives and service on various task forces and commissions.

In addition to his legal career and volunteer service, Reyes has been very involved in Utah politics. He has served as a county, state and national (alternate) delegate for the Republican Party and a member of the State Central Committee, the governing body of the Utah Republican Party. Reyes was appointed by Governor John Huntsman to serve as one of the youngest members of the prestigious Third District Judicial Nominating Commission and spent several years on a National Congressional Commission started by President George W. Bush. Appointed by Congress and the President, Reyes conducted public hearings throughout the country to advise the current Administration and Congress on Latino issues.

Last December, Reyes was appointed by Governor Gary Herbert as Utah's first Hispanic/Filipino Attorney General. In short order, Reyes has been tasked with several complex legal and administrative challenges including fighting the reversal of Utah's Amendment 3 same-sex marriage ban, appealing the `Kody Brown' polygamy case, and spearheading a comprehensive culture change in Utah's AG office to achieve heightened morale. While seemingly overwhelming to many in Utah and nationwide, Reyes cites his new legal endeavor as a public servant duty and honor that he has prepared for all his life.
