Adventures in Movement! / Facilitated by Attack Theatre Tired of sitting still? Join the award—winning dancers from Attack Theatre who are known for their “ninja like intensity” for a summer of new moves, new ideas, and lots of creative fun. This workshop brings to life students’ personal stories and experiences through movement. Each week Attack Theatre will offer a different focus such as creating dances from stories, exploring connections between sports and dance, and making movement with everyday objects and actions. Special treats include workshops led by guest artists in dance forms such as African dance, yoga, Irish step dance, hip hop, and Flamenco dance. Adventures in Science! Facilitated by Carnegie Science Center Aim for distant galaxies, magnify sea monkeys, perform wizard tricks to amaze your family—and these science adventures are just the beginning! Engineer structure models with Legos, K’nex, ride on air on a hovercraft, and launch rockets, as you become a Carnegie Science Investigator (CSI) exploring life as an astronaut on the ISS (International Space Station). Plus, you’ll get lots of cool stuff to take home with you, like tornado tubes, slime, UV detecting rings, and “Grow Beasts”! Art Activism / Facilitated by MGR Youth Empowerment Youth Power, Youth Action! Take a stand to create CHANGE in Pittsburgh! Do you want to have your voice heard by recording original songs, creating your own amazing art, performing a cool dance, marching with giant puppets, or putting on a unique performance? Join Pittsburgh youth and use the arts to get your voice out, creating real change in our schools and communities! This summer is YOUR chance to take action through art and let the leaders of our city know what is important to YOU. Create raps, art, dance, and sing to promote unity and action as YOU lead the city wide 2014 MGR Youth Empowerment Rally for Change! Big Shot: The Science of Photography Facilitated by Mad Science Pittsburgh Build and take home your own digital camera! Learn about the science of optics, mechanics, and electronics that make the camera operate. Create images from your everyday life. Express your ideas while you experiment with framing, lighting, and motion. Display your photo images for the whole camp to see! Build Your “A” Game Facilitated by the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh It takes more than one person to make a great video game: artists for graphics and sound, writers to set up the back-stories; and programmers to make it all work. If you ever wanted to go from Gamer to Game Designer or wondered what the fascinating world of video game design is like, then BYAG Multimedia Career Exploration is the camp experience for you! Citiparks Wild Urban Adventures / Facilitated by Citiparks Campers will learn a variety of knowledge in a fun and relaxed environment, with the opportunity to have outdoor experiences in the City of Pittsburgh’s regional parks. From horseback riding to the Pittsburgh Zoo, campers will participate in field trips and learn more about some of the area’s most fascinating woodland streams like Frick Park, Highland Park, and Riverview Park. Each week a different theme will be explored, including action art movement, rivers and bridges, Native American culture, nature and environment, and animal adventures. Clay and Mosaic Extravaganza Facilitated by Pittsburgh Center for the Arts Join us in exploring two amazing art forms—Clay! and Mosaics!—that have been around for thousands of years! You’ll learn how to knead, roll, twist, pinch, form, and sculpt various types of beautiful clay to make your own ceramic art and will also learn how to break tile and glass to create your own mosaic art! You and other campers will also work together to create a huge mosaic masterpiece that will be displayed in a very public place. This program will also give you the opportunity to sell your artwork and make a little extra money. Club Adventure / Facilitated by Family Links, Inc. Club Adventure will promote growth in skills of communication, decision- making, self-esteem, cooperative work, respect and many other life skills. Students in this camp will interact in activities that are relevant to their lives today as well as help them build character and the life skills that will be attractive to colleges and employers later in their lives, including team work, communication, respect, leadership, and problem solving. There’s never a dull moment in Club Adventure, with activities that will allow each student to identify and set goals for their personal growth. Color Me Cultural! / Facilitated by Color Me Mine Pittsburgh Have you wanted to explore far beyond your own backyard? Are you interested in what other kids are doing all around the world? We will also virtually visit every major continent, and draw, write, paint, build, sing, and celebrate just like they do. Passports are not required! Fencing / Facilitated by Three Rivers Fencing Get ready to embark on a journey that involves fighting, chivalry, strategy, physical strength, speed, a sharp mind, and a sharp blade! You will learn how to perform in one of the original Olympic sports. Our fencing experts will show you how to handle a 35-inch piece of steel with power and finesse. Together we will relive the glorious and heroic lives of warriors, samurai, knights, musketeers, fencing masters, and Olympic champions! LET US SHARE OUR PASSION FOR FENCING WITH YOU THIS SUMMER! If you can dream it, you can build it, sculpt it, and throw it during this awesome clay camp activity. Learn exciting ways make monsters, boxes, pots, cups, and plates. Celebrate at the end with a special show of your artwork, and lots of ceramic creations to take home. Then join The First Tee of Pittsburgh and learn a life-long game while making long lasting friendships. By the end of the summer, your game and your friends will be tight.

Imagination Exploration / Facilitated by Pittsburgh Center for the ArtsIn this multi-media art camp you will collaborate with your friends to envision, design, and create an artful environment filled with habitats, mythological creatures, natural wonders, and much more! Through the use of both traditional and recycled materials campers will develop many different art skills while creating a variety of projects including: creating and building your own mythological creature, 2-D art pieces, masks, flip books, mosaics, original stories in handmade booklets, 3-D sculptures, and best of all, transforming a classroom into a place where your creations and creatures will live!

Judo / Facilitated by Allegheny Youth Development How'd you like a summer of thrilling throws, tough grappling moves and all kinds of awesome martial arts techniques? AYD Judo is ready for you! Judo is exciting, safe, and most of all, fun! Our team of Junior Olympians and nationally ranked athletes, led by 2004 Olympic alternate Rick Brown, will teach you the skills, courage and self-control to compete in a real judo tournament at the end of camp. So kick off your shoes and join us on the mat. Hajime!

Let’s do Yoga! / Facilitated by the Yoga HiveLeBron James says, “Yoga isn't just about the body, it's also about the mind and it's a technique that has really helped me.” Famous soccer player David Beckham practices yoga too. Get ready to move, balance, be silly and serious, learn yoga fables, and write stories. Kids live in a fast paced world of busy parents, school, homework, video games, malls, and competitive sports. Yoga can help you find balance and calmness. We will learn techniques for self-health, relaxation, and inner fulfillment to help us navigate life's challenges. Yoga at an early age encourages self-esteem and body awareness in a noncompetitive way; fostering cooperation andcompassion—instead of opposition. Yoga is a great gift for all of us.

Mad About Science! / Facilitated by Mad Science PittsburghTransform yourself into a Mad Scientist as you learn to use lab equipment, explore the depths of outer space, control cool robots, and learning the science behind your favorite movies. Mix up a batch of slime, build a model space station, learn about animals, and solve a mystery. Join us for hands-on science fun!

Message out of the Bottle / Facilitated by Gateway to the ArtsAhoy Matey! Do you like music? Have you ever gotten a bottle with a secret message inside? Join Captain Bridgette as she sets sail to uncover the messages in songs all around us. Campers will make their own instruments, practice singing, and discover the elements that make up a song. Then we'll create our very own songs by writing messages and putting them to music! At the end of camp, we'll share our songs with family and friends. Climb aboard and join Captain Bridgette’s musical adventure!

Movin’ Feet and Funky Beats / Facilitated by Gateway to the ArtsGet up and move your feet with Sister Bea as you discover a high-energy world of dance and music with roots that reach back to Africa. Explore the meaning behind dance and music in West Africa, and learn about the cultures of Guinea, Senegal, and Ghana. Campers will learn traditional dances and perform them to live drumming!

Oh! “Sew” Fabulous! / Facilitated by Gateway to the ArtsDiscover the art of sewing and create projects that reflect your identity and personal style! Campers will start by making backpacks that we’ll use throughout our sewing adventures. (continues in next column)

We’ll explore African textile techniques and decorate t-shirts, learn about the Japanese culture of cute and sew kawaii figurines, and design our own personal symbols to add to our backpacks! At the end of camp we’ll have a mini art exhibition to show off our creations to friends and family!

Pittsburgh’s History Makers / Facilitated by the Heinz History Center You live in one of America’s most important cities. Over the last 300 years, this city has been the site of battles, led the world in industry, and invented products from life-saving medicine to the Jeep and The Big Mac. History makers in Pittsburgh have improved life for many people. As one of Pittsburgh’s History Makers, you’ll spend the summer stepping back in time at the Heinz History Center, learning how Pittsburgh was involved in the Underground Railroad, the Civil War, innovations, and sports. You’ll participate in exciting hands-on activities and crafts, see exhibits come to life with visitors from the past, and discover what it was like to live in this remarkable city across time. Journey through the past and learn how you can help shape the region’s future as a History Maker!

Positive Spin / Facilitated by MGR Youth EmpowermentLet’s ride bikes! Do you want to spend the summer adventuring outside with the sun at your back and a cool breeze across your face? In Positive Spin, you will explore Pittsburgh’s river trails and parks on two wheels, while having an awesome time riding with your friends! Along the way, you will also learn helpful skills in bike mechanics and create a collaborative music video to show off your talent. We will end the summer with an unforgettable journey: a 100-mile cycling adventure, overnight camping trip, an all day bike ride, and a picnic.

Radio Camp: You’re on the Air!Facilitated by SLB Radio Productions, Inc.Ever dream of creating your own documentary or news piece? How about being a journalist or a reporter? How about learning how to use the microphones, mixers and software that make it all possible? If this sounds like you, Radio Camp is a great fit! You’ll work with experienced professionals, and your recordings will be heard by the world on the radio and online. This is a great camp for kids interested in writing, performing, or learning about and using the technology found in radio studios.

Sculpture & Performance / Facilitated by Pittsburgh Center for the ArtsEnergize your life with a camp that combines the action of performance art with the creative challenge of building sculptures! Pittsburgh artist Tom Sarver will lead you through the process of brainstorming, concept development, construction, and rehearsal. A culminating performance will incorporate amazing wearable sculptures, grand assemblage works, innovative movement, creative sound, and dynamic poetry—all created by you and your peers!

Service Remix / Facilitated by Pittsburgh CaresDo you like to help people and make a difference, while having fun? Then, Service Remix is the place for you! This summer put a mix on all the things you love like music, sports, movies, and art by tossing in a side of service! Your summer will be epic when you increase your leadership skills, make new friends, and create change!

Swim & Water Polo / Facilitated by the Bloomfield Garfield CorporationThis awesome activity will keep you cool all summer long as you brush upon your swimming skills, learn the details of the sport, and compete as a member of Pittsburgh’s newest and hottest Water Polo team. We will teach you how to swim, dive, jog and play our competitive aquatic games. The greatest thing about Swim and Water Polo is the idea that campers will gain new skills, fitness routines and friends for a lifetime. Repeat campers are strongly encouraged to sign up again to captain their teams and lead the way. All Swim and Water Polo campers will participate in group runs, barefoot biathlon, and the Liberty Mile Road Race.
