NOVEMBER NEWS LETTER

Well ladies & gentlemen I make no apologies for putting in so many photos on

the first page for such an excellent night.

Fifteen bikes in all turned up for the “Traders Night” a good variety of stiles

and engine size was on display for all to see.

All the photos for Traders Night are on the club web site at

Plymouthmcc.co.uk

Traders Night

Well, what a brilliant turn out by the dealers and members alike this

turned out to be, and such a variety of bikes.

Ian, Guy and Rick from BMW brought along three bikes they were the

speedy S1000 R, the ever popular go anywhere R1300 GS and the fast

and I mean “fast” R nineT this bike proved to be the most popular of the

BMW’s with a lot of members romanticising “if only” and all sorts of

questions being thrown at the reps, it generated a lot of interest and Ian,

Guy and Rick doing an excellent job in answering all the questions being

thrown at them about the bikes.

Triumph sent along Dave and Chris with a bike that is a strong contender

for the title that the GS has held for a long time, the Explorer, is the

Explorer as good as the GS? or maybe even better well, it’s a very good

bike but I’ll let you decide which is the better, both very capable bikes.

The Daytona 675R was another bike in the Triumph line up, the Daytona

is a very good seller, surely that must be an indication of how good the

bike is. The third bike in the line up was the Thruxton 900 this being the

modern take on the old style bike and gaining the most interest from the

members. Just had to wonder if this is an indication on the age of club

members, naaaa neverrrrr!!!

Steve and Steve the two “Steve's” from GT’s brought along three bikes

one being a Suzuki GSX-R600 Tyco, this is a very fast bike, just because

it’s a 600 you would not be wise to underestimate it, it is very capable of

keeping up with bikes a lot bigger. The next bike in GT’s line up was the

little Honda MS125 Repsol, if you work in Plymouth this surely would

be a great little commuter very reliable and cheap to run.

The last bike in GT’s line up is the Ducati 1199 super leggera, not a lot I

can say about this bike other than all a lot of us can do is dream about it,

“why” I hear you say, well I’ll tell you, because the price is in excess of

£52000.

£52000 and that is without panniers and a top box, but a brilliant bike.

TRADERS NIGHT

A first for the club was to have Moto Cross Champ Dave Shears along

with three bikes.

Out of the three bikes Dave brought one was half size one was nine

tenths size and the third one was full size, the full size one was a 250cc

the other two were 200cc.

AJP motocross is not a make of bike that is very well known to us road

going types, AJP motocross is a Portuguese company and the bikes are

hand made in Portugal and exported from there.

If you would like to have a go at moto cross why not go down and have a

word with Dave he is located just down the hill from the club house at

Ernesettle, he has a track down there and I’m sure you would get a warm

welcome, a couple of laps around the track, great fun.

Tracey, Leigh and poppy (the puppy) were good enough to bring along

three bikes from KTM. The big daddy of them being the superduke 1250,

the Duke 390 and the Moto 250 2stroke.

KTM seems to be a very underestimated bike if you go by the numbers

you see about. If you read the write ups and talk to owners the KTM

seems a very capable and reliable bike, so why there is not more of them

on the road is difficult to understand.

Thanks In no particular order thanks must go out to the people who gave us their time to bring the

bikes to the club.

From BMW Ian, Guy and Rick. From Triumph Dave and Chris. From GT’s the two Steve’s.

Moto Cross, Dave Shears. KTM Tracey, Leigh and of course Poppy.

These people came to us when they could have just as well been home by the fire.

Plymouthmcc and its members are grateful to them all for their time and support.

Well, once again Steve and Allison have maintained their very high standard to lay on the

buffet, as usual the food was brilliant that shows in the fact that all the food went, devoured by

all who attended the evening. Well done to Allison Steve and helpers.

Steve was also the organiser of this night, not a light task with the health problems he has had

lately. It would have been so easy to pass on the task but Steve stuck with it, great

determination and surely an indicator of his character. Well done Steve.

Run to the Sun Hello I thought you might like to read about our trip to the last Moto GP race of the season at the Ricardo Tormao Valencia Circuit. 5 of us went on 4 bikes Steve Allen, Kev Freer, Roy & Pat Pike and myself (Roy was lead bike on the trip) Pete Batten flew down and met us at the hotel in Valencia.

Day 1

We set off heading for Portsmouth to catch the ferry to Bilbao in Spain, we all got safely on board the ferry (Cap Finistere) found our cabins, got changed and of course met at the bar for food & drinks.

Day 2

The ferry arrived at Bilbao at 12:45 after enjoying our time on the ferry we all met up at the bikes and got off the ferry to start our adventure in Spain. Roy and his Sat nav (no I don’t mean Pat) led the way we were hoping to get out from Bilbao as quickly as possible but the sat nav had other ideas, we ending up going twice around Bilbao on a mystery tour checking out most of the streets. At one stage Roy & Steve decided to play chicken with a tram, Roy decided to ignore the sat nav and take a different route Hurray!! we finally got out of Bilbao and headed for our overnight stop at the Tulip Inn at Zaragoza.

Day3

After a nice evening at the hotel we were up early for breakfast then got on the bikes ready for our run to Valencia, we had 2 stops for fuel and arrived safely at Valencia Found the hotel quite easily and parked the bikes in the underground car park booked in at the Alburfera Aparthotel (we were going to be there for 4 days) went to our rooms and were very please to find they were self contained apartments with kitchen, living room & a balcony. Unpacked and we all met in the bar later on we decided to go and look for a restaurant for some food. After walking a long way we still hadn’t found anywhere to eat it wasn’t easy to find somewhere we all liked so some decided to head back to the hotel but Kev and myself found somewhere to eat guess where? good old KFC.

Day4

After a good nights sleep went for breakfast Pete had hired a people carrier and was going to be our chauffer whilst we were in Valencia. He met us outside the hotel and we made our way to the Ruedas motorbike show we enjoyed looking around the show, then we went to the Ricardo Tormo Valencia Circuit to watch the qualifying we met up with some of Pete’s friends from the Valentino Rossi fan club Pete is also a member of it. Found some nice tee shirts and some had Cheste on them which was where we headed next. At Cheste on race weekend only bikes are allowed in the town centre there are bars

and food up and down the street, the bikes do burn outs, pop wheelies and bounce off

the rev limiter as well as other stunts. The Police just stay on the outskirts of the town

and let the bikers & general public enjoy themselves, thousands of bikers & non bikers

meet there and everyone enjoys it, I have been before and have never seen any

trouble. I could never see our authorities allowing it to happen in the UK. When we got

back to the Hotel we decided after the problem finding food the night before to just eat

at the hotel for the remaining nights we were there. After our meal we decided to go to

the bar we ordered the drinks only to find that if you order a shot in Spain it’s about

the size of 5 shots in the UK.

Day 5

After breakfast we headed to the circuit for the race we were driven there by our Spanish taxi driver Pete Batten (or should I say El Pedro) we joined the large queue of cars and bikes luckily we had Aircon in ours, we had a long walk to get to our seats so were glad we had taken some food and drink with us and settled in to watch the race. The weather was quite comfortable the crowd in Spain have always been very supportive of Valentino Rossi and today was no exception it was a good race with Rossi ending up second. After the race we managed to find the car OK and joined the queue to leave this bit is always a bit of a nightmare, we then made our way through Valencia to the sea front where we got some fresh air and found a café and had a nice hot drink then back to the hotel.

Day 6 After breakfast Pete arrived to take us on our next trip we were going to a town called Elsaler we used to stay at a campsite there so we went there to see the people who run the local bar who had always made us feel very welcome. We left for Camp Pepe some of us have stayed there before it is right on the seafront

we had a drink in a café there then made our way down towards Alicante stopping at a

place called Calpe we went to a restaurant/bar on the seafront.

Calpe has a big rock similar to Gibraltar we met up with some friends of Pete’s and some Ex PMCC members Ron & Michelle. We had a nice meal and a drink 3 people enjoyed a jug of sangria each (yes you did read it correct 1 each) Pat, Roy and Steve got very merry on it. We said goodbye to our friends and went back to Valencia.

DAY 7

We all met up for breakfast got our bikes ready and thanked Pete for being our chauffer, left Valencia and headed towards Toledo where we were staying that night. We didn’t have a good ride there most of the way we had heavy rain, after a couple of stops for fuel we were all glad to reach Torrijos and our hotel the Hotel Castella safely. Unpacked our bikes and went to our rooms to try and dry our clothes ready for the morning.

Day 8 Left the Hotel and made our way to Palencia where we were staying for 1 night at the Hotel Rey Sacho. We were all glad that the weather had improved from the day before, got our room keys then guess what we all met at the bar decided to go for a walk around the local shops then tried to find somewhere to eat Mc Donald’s to the rescue. DAY 9 After breakfast we were off on our travels again this time heading for Bilbao. The weather was very good so we had a nice ride it got warmer the nearer we got to Bilbao which is very unusual, found the ferry quite easily got our cabins on the Cape Finistere Ferry The same ferry that we went over on so we knew our way around it. Met up for a meal and ended up in a bar at the stern of the ferry it was a very nice bar with entertainment. Day 10 We meet up for an English breakfast (welcome home), about 2 hours later we berthed in Portsmouth, left the ferry and passport control (yes they did let us back in Ha! Ha!) Then made our way home taking the coast route we all got home safely.

I would like to say A BIG THANK YOU to Roy & Pat Pike for leading us on our trip

& A BIG THANK YOU to Pete Batten

for making our stay in Valencia Special For organising the trips whilst we were in Valencia and for driving us around
