Major Dan Rooney is the founder of the Folds of Honor Foundation and Patriot Golf Day, a former F-16 pilot in the Oklahoma Air National Guard, PGA Professional, and golf course owner. For his work with Folds of Honor Foundation, Rooney has received the White House’s Presidential Volunteer Service Award, the Air National Guard’s Distinguished Service Medal, the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, and The PGA of America’s Inaugural Patriot Award. He has also been recognized as one of People Magazine’s Heroes of the Year and one of ABC World News Tonight’s Persons of the Year. A Major in the Air National Guard and a decorated military aviator, Rooney served three combat tours in Iraq. He was honored with the “Spirit of Attack” award as a top

graduate of F-16 training. He has received many decorations to include the Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Medal, Anti-terrorism Medal, Combat Readiness Medal, and Air Expeditionary Medal. Rooney is also the author of the moving life story A Patriot’s Calling: Living Life Between Fear and Faith.

Shortly after returning from his second tour as an F-16 fighter pilot in Iraq, fate would change Major Dan Rooney’s life forever. As a passenger on United Flight 664, he witnessed the other side of war as Corporal Brad Bucklin escorted his twin brother Corporal Brock Bucklin home from Iraq. Rooney watched Brock’s four-year-old son standing helpless on the tarmac as his father’s flag-draped casket inched down the cargo ramp. At that moment, Rooney was called on a mission to ensure that the sacrifices of America’s heroes—our fallen military personnel—would never go unappreciated or unrewarded. And now the Folds of Honor Foundation is a non-profit organization that has raised more than $22 million and has awarded nearly 5,500 educational scholarships to the family members of soldiers killed or disabled in combat.

Rooney tells his inspiring story of combat and serving others while highlighting the importance of faith, teamwork, accountability and finding your life’s mission.

At home, Dan and his wife, Jacqy, live with their five daughters, Victoria, Tatum, Mia, Reese and Devyn.

Major Rooney is the true essence of American pride, for his contributions to our country and to the families of our fallen heroes through the Folds of Honor Foundation. He sets the standard as an example of how to serve others and particularly our children and families. We are honored to have him as this year’s Father of the Year.

The Father of The Year Presentation and recognition of the Father & Son / Anheuser Busch scholarship recipients will take place on Thursday at 6 PM, during the Family Affair.

During the first two rounds of tournament play, participants will have the option of taking part in the on course par 3 contests, benefiting the Folds of Honor Foundation. There is a $25 donation required to participate. This fee will cover both team members for both Thursday and Friday. Overall FOH closest to the pin on Thursday will win a free 2015 team entry.

Father & Son Skills Challenge The Skills Challenge, sponsored by Wilson Staff, is a team event that will test each player’s golfing and shot making skills. Contests will feature Closest to the Pin, Long Drive, Putting, and Chipping. Prizes will be awarded for 1st through 10th place, during Saturday’s Awards Ceremony. Prizes will include Gift Cards and a variety of Wilson Staff Clubs and other Wilson Staff golf accessories.

Hole in One Contest Every Father/Son participant has the chance at a 180 yard shot to win a BMW or Mercedes.

Family Cookout – sponsored by GolfNow.com (hot dogs, hamburgers, grilled chicken, cole slaw, potato salad, etc). Prepared by Logan’s Roadhouse.
