The strict definition of scientific research is performing a methodical study in order to prove a hypothesis or answer a specific question. Finding a definitive answer is the central goal of any experimental process.

Course Description
This 6-week course will offer participants the
opportunity to establish or advance their
engagement with research practices through
critical exploration of research mechanisms,
approaches, and ethics. The elements of the
research process (quantitative, qualitative, and
mixed methods, etc.) are as well discussed in the
context of the participants’ interests and fields of
study.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
•define research and describe the research process and research methods•describe the processes and requirements for conducting successful research at KAU (or their college)•discuss quantitative and qualitative research methods used to execute and validate quantitative and qualitative research.•apply the basic aspects of the research process in order to plan a proposal for a research project. •effectively use the library and its resources (off-line and online) in gathering information for research purposes.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
•locate and critically evaluate relevant literature•write a research proposal on a topic of their choice•have a critical awareness of issues relating to research reliability and validity, and ethical considerations•collaborate on tasks related to the course (offline & online).•engage in highly collaborative and communicative guided discussions and brain storming sessions about research activities (offline & online). •create questionnaires as data-gathering instruments (e-questionnaires).

Examination:1.Attendance for the E-Quizzes is obligatory on assigned dates and no excuse (except one stating a serious medical condition) is allowed.2.Cheating is not tolerated AT ALL.3.The instructor allows one retake quiz, but you have to attend the first Quiz and fail it or be absent with a valid excuse to be allowed to set for this Retake. Correction:If you believe that your work has been incorrectly graded (e.g. points were added/ subtracted incorrectly), you must contact the instructor in writing and clearly state the error you believe has occurred.

Recording lectures: 1.Recording audio lectures is allowed. 2.Uploading or distributing the recorded material without permission is not accepted. Mobiles in class:All cellular phones must be switched off or put on silent at all times during classes. Plagiarism: 1.Class work which show signs of plagiarism will not be marked. 2.A student who submits a plagiarized work will be given another chance to resubmit an original work.
