Overview: The summit provides the opportunity for participants to learn all about the league structure and processes, how to start a mountain bike team, how to work with their schools, issues related to liability, and the unique intricacies of working with high school cyclists. The primary goal for the Leaders’ Summit is to license parents and adults as new coaches. The summit is an ideal opportunity for new and seasoned coaches to share thoughts and opinions; it is the perfect environment to get charged up for the coming season!

Instructor Biographies Austin McInerny, NICA Executive Director
Austin has had a long history with high school cycling starting in 2003 and has contributed in a significant way to establish the National Interscholastic Cycling Association. He played a major role in writing the first edition of the NICA Coaches Manual and has instructed at leaders’ summits in every NICA state. Austin was the head coach for the Berkeley High School Mountain Bike Club for five years, has managed the USA Cycling Western Regional Development Camp in the past, and has served as the president of the board of directors for the NorCal High School Cycling League while also serving on the Board of Directors of the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council. With a background in environmental mediation and a master’s degree in regional planning from Cornell University, Austin is committed to helping inspire and teach adolescents about responsible use and care of public open space and providing opportunities for youth to build strong bodies, mind and character thru participation on school based mountain bike
teams. Austin was the proud recipient of the first ever Community Impact Award presented by NICA in 2010 and, since late 2012, has served as NICA’s executive director. Lee McCormack, NICA Skills Guru Lee McCormack is a worldrenowned mountain bike skills instructor. He wrote the books Mastering Mountain Bike Skills, Teaching Mountain Bike Skills, Pro BMX Skills, Welcome to Pump Track Nation, Pump Up the Base,Prepare to Pin It andF6: Six Moves to Build Your Foundation. As the skills development director for NICA, Lee develops the programs used to train high school mountain bike coaches and athletes across the United States. Lee works with riders of all styles and levels, from beginners to world champions! Lee lives in Boulder, CO, with his wife Arlette and their four kids — Kate (23), Ian (20), Fiona (3) and Finley (3).
