2014 dodge avenger vehicle review
TRANSCRIPT
The mid-size sedan category has never been a
tougher, more competitive segment than it is
today, and the 2014 Dodge Avenger wins points
for its design but falls short of the competition in
many other areas. It's a far better car than when it
was launched--and largely seen only on car-rental
lots--but like its cousin, the Chrysler 200 (nee
Sebring), it's a reminder of the bad old days at
Chrysler. It's also by far the oldest car in the
segment, and against strong competition from the
Ford Fusion, Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata, and
Nissan Altima, it's sadly a perfect example of "too
little, too late."
The 2014 Avenger hasn't changed much since its
2011 update, which gave it the excellent and
powerful Chrysler Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6 engine,
accompanied by a much nicer interior and a
retuned suspension. The car looks attractive and
stands out from the crowd, with a design that
echoes the full-size Charger sedan, from its cross-
hair grille to the kicked-up "shoulder" ahead of the
rear fender. It's a smaller, front-wheel-drive car,
but it is clearly a member of the same family as
the larger rear-wheel-drive sedan, and carries that
car's hint of muscle.
Inside, Dodge gave the cabin appointments a little
more polish a couple of years ago, with some better
detailing and soft-touch materials around the dash,
but the lower half of the dash was mostly left
untouched. And in general, the look neither has the
premium look of the Charger or even the detailed,
sporty look of the new Dart cabin.
