EOTC Learning Intentions

‘We are Connected, Creative and Active learners, Confident to meet new Challenges’

to many different learning situations.

• transfer skills they have been focusing on in class learning, to the camp environment i.e. working on achieving set goals using SOLO, presenting our

mihi’s and following protocols• be challenged in activities which will foster problem solving, trust and

confidence i.e. experiencing being in the learning pit and working together to see success!

• use the 4 Peaks values in outdoor settings especially the ‘Reach up and Reach Out’ value

work as a team and collectively achieve their best • have an opportunity to experience independence away from home

To increase children’s knowledge of their own locality and heritage

On Return Our Learning• We will use a variety of learning contexts to stretch students

skills and strategies by applying what they found out/ discovered into the following learning

• Creating our own Legends and Stories (Reading and Writing)

• Research and History - Social Sciences

• Te Reo Maori Language - entwining our learnings through the Performing and Visual Arts.

Southern Experience Day 1Approximate times

• 8.15am children to arrive and meet in hall and packing the bus

• 8.45 am Register and board bus

• 9.00 am Depart to Bluff

• 10.00 am morning Tea stop at Lumsden

• 11:30 Arrive in Bluff - Southern Coastal Walk (Lunch in groups along the walk)

• 2:30pm - Te Rau Aroha Marae

• Welcoming ceremony - (Powhiri) followed by afternoon tea

• Rotation of Cultural Activities

• Dinner

• Setting up for bed followed by Storytelling

Te Rau Aroha Marae, Bluff

• Students will need to bring a hearty packed lunch for Thursday, including a drink bottle (Named)

• A small container of baking for Friday Whenua 2 - savoryWhenua 3 - sweetWhenua 4 - fruit

• The Marae will be providing afternoon tea, dinner, breakfast and packed lunch for Friday.

Meals- Kai

Adventure Southland site in Lorneville• climbing • abseiling• low ropes course• team building• archery / air rifles• flying fox

Return to Queenstown around 6pm

Southern Experience Day 2 Wet Day Programme

Marae Experience to continue for the morning • Visit Bluff Primary School• Visit the Southland Museum• Lunch• Strike BowlReturn to Queenstown around 5pm

The following gear needs to fit into a Small back pack

• lunch and drink bottle• Waterproof jacket• Warm fleece or jumper• Sunhat, beanie- warm woollie hat• Fluro vest• Sunblock

Parent Helpers Role• Be responsible for all children, start with other pupils before their own

• Be responsible for the welfare of the group

• Lead a group of students through the activities including duties• Follow the camp rules

• Follow directions of the teachers

• Set a good example

• Be keen enthusiastic and inquisitive about the places we visit and activities we do.

Parent helpers will be contacted on Friday 21 via email. We have had an overwhelming response but unfortunately we can only take 12 parent helpers (4 from each class).

Parents are able to join us on the Friday at Adventure Southland

Briefing Session - Wednesday 7 May (Term 2) for all parent helpers going on camp

At this meeting you will receive a full camp booklet at a briefing session prior to attending camp. This will fully outline the programme activities, procedures to ensure the safety of everyone at camp and give some background information about the area.

The Nuts and Bolts

• We are on camp Thursday 16 May to Friday 17 May• We will be taking: 79 Year 4 students, 4 Teachers, 1 Teacher

Aide and 12 parent helpers

• Camp payments - $95 per student (please pay at the office)Keep Track of us while away on camp via twitter

• Concerns prior to camp please see your child’s class teacher

• We will contact you if your child is upset during camp

• Sharing the ‘Southern Experience’ Assembly will be held a couple of weeks after our Year 4 campers return.

Fund Raising• Over the Term 2 we will be working hard as a Year 4 team

to raise around $2500 to cover the bus costs• The Year 4 team for Terms 2 and 3 will be running the

Hells Pizza organisation on a Wednesday. Hells Pizza’s will be selling for $5 and $1 comes to the school for our Yr 4 camp.
