Project: Process Safety ConsultancyClient: Air BPStopford was awarded a contract to support Air BP in the provision of process safety consultancy and general engineering services. Safety consultancy work included HAZOP studies, LOPA and SIL assessments. General engineering services included the development and updating of engineering practices for Air BP's global aviation fuel installations.

Project: H&S ConsultancyGENERIC HAZOPStopford developed a GENERIC HAZOP system which has now been put into effect at all Air BP sites, worldwide. Stopford wrote the standard system specifically for Air BP, which allows the simple implementation of Hazard Studies, company wide.Stopford are assisting Air BP with the implementation of this standard process to all of their sites.

LOPA Excel ToolStopford developed an Excel spreadsheet tool to enable LOPA screening to be conducted effectively at Air BPs 400+ sites.LOPA consultancy was carried out by Stopford at the following facilities:

Bahrain- Stopford consultants produced the specification and tender documents for the replacement of all electrical and instrumentation systems at the Arad Depot. The implemented systems are necessary to manage all systems associated with pipeline receipt, storage, transfer and hydrant pumping and product recovery in the facility. Stopford provided technical support to the client during the procurement, development and commissioning of this comprehensive 7 year project.

H.H.Op.Co.-Heathrow

Project: Aviation Fuel Hydrant Filter UpgradeLocation: Cargo Terminal

Stopford has undertaken a design and project management project for the installation of new double block and bleed valves, and JIG compliant filter water separators on the fuel hydrant system at the cargo terminal. The project involved conducting a HAZOP study, pump NPSH calculations, generating mechanical and process datasheets and construction management.


Shell Case Study

Project: Aviation Fuel Handling RigLocation: Cheshire

Stopford undertook a major design study on Shells aviation fuel rig. The project focussed on the high efficiency filtration of jet A1. The work included major modifications to Shells existing hydrant facility at Thornton Research Centre. Stopford provided all the process engineering, hazard operability studies and SIL assessments.


BP Case Study

Project: Ethanol Blending and additionLocation: BP Oil terminals 5 sites

Stopford undertook a full engineering design and project management service for 4 BP fuel storage terminals, such that they meet full compliance to the R.T.F.O for bioethanol storage and blending.Stopford carried out the detailed design for this project. We prepared most of the application support drawings for the client and undertook full multi disciplinary engineering design including process, mechanical & piping,


disciplinary engineering design including process, mechanical & piping, tanks, E&I, civil and structural design. Engineering work was progressed on 4 sites for the integration of a system to store and blend bio-ethanol into gasoline. We also carried out a 10% capital estimate for all the sites. An Autocad 3D model of the facility was produced.

Total Case Study

Project: Design Study Location: WOSL TerminalStopford undertook a feasibility study of an ethanol storage and blending facility for Totals WOSL Terminal. The study included all process engineering, E&I, mechanical and civil/structural activities for the off-loading and blending of ethanol via road and rail.

Location: Buncefield TerminalStopford provided the Project Manager and design support for the refurbishment and return to service of the aviation fuel storage tanks at Buncefield.

Project: Small Projects Location: Various TerminalsStopford has provided design support on numerous projects including Hi Hi level systems, ROSOV and battery limits valves, secondary and tertiary containment, ATEX/DSEAR studies, LOPA/SIL studies, fire risk assessment, pump upgrades, vapour recovery units.

Chevron Case Studies

Project: Bioethanol Storage & BlendingLocation: Chevron, NationwideStopford is providing a full range of engineering design and project management services to 5 of Chevrons fuel storage terminals. This work will ensure they gain full compliance to the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (R.T.F.O) for bioethanol storage and blending.Stopford have been engaged as the Main Contractor on the project from scope and FEED development through to planning, design, specification, procurement, construction management and commissioning. Stopford have also been engaged as CDM Coordinator and Principal Contractor. Stopford took ownership of the construction area for the duration of each project. Stopfords in-house multi-discipled resources were utilised throughout all the projects.


Project: Demolition Location: Chevron, Poole TerminalStopford was required to supervise of the demolition of the terminal by KDC, on behalf of Chevron. The project involved:

Demolition of all tanks, equipment and buildings. Removal of all vertical cylindrical tanks. Removal of all horizontal cylindrical tanks, including buried tanks. Demolition of all pipe work, including fire water and buried pipe work. Removal of all pipes, structures, equipment, electrics on the jetty. Demolition of all pipe supports, structures, fences, etc. Removal of all drains and separators. Removal of electrical works. Removal of all buildings and foundations. Re-storing site as required.

Chevrons terminal at Poole was located in a busy working port area, adjacent to an operational quay. Surrounding it was a cement plant, industrial warehouses and a factory producing luxury power boats and cruisers.

Cirrus Oil Services Case Study

Project: Fuel Terminal DesignLocation: GhanaStopford is currently undertaking the engineering design of two fuel storage and distribution terminals in Ghana, with Woodfields Energy Resources and Cirrus Oil Services. The main terminal is to be built in Tema incorporating pipeline import and storage capacity for gasoline, automotive gas oil and aviation fuel. The second terminal is for aviation fuel at Accra International Airport. Stopford are developing the engineering design from previous FEED studies to detailed design for EPC implementation.Both terminals are being built on green field sites and the scope of the design work includes all services, utilities, roads and hardstandings, fire protection, drainage, lighting, communications and buildings.


The terminals will be compliant with international standards and the aviation facilities are being designed with full compliance to JIG requirements.

Project: Detail Design of New Tank and Associated works for a Petroleum Supply DepotClient: Trant, Ascension IslandsStopford Projects has been commissioned to deliver the detailed design work associated with the decommissioning and demolition of an existing fuel tank, followed by the replacement with a new larger tank. The scope also

The scope also includes a temporary fuel bypass line (the temporary line is to be removed upon completion).Project: Bio-ethanol BlendingLocation: Murco, Various Stopford has recently been awarded two projects to deliver detailed design of ethanol blending facilities at two terminals.The scope of work is to create a suitable ethanol off-loading facility, an ethanol storage facility and gasoline/ethanol blending systems. One terminal will be based on designs for two 150cum storage tanks with 4 blending arms and the other four 150cbm storage tanks with 9 blending arms.As part of the contracts SPL has provided assistance to gain planning permission for the new installations. During the detailed design the project team will also develop a +/- 10% estimate for the construction phase. SPL will also manage the procurement and construction / commissioning phases.
