2014 Annual Review

Dear Friends,

There was a popular ditty written by Guy Clark a few years back that included this timeless wisdom:

Only two things that money can’t buy,And that’s true love and home-grown tomatoes.

The obvious fun of that sentiment is the pairing of the sublime with the mundane. But after a moment’s thought, there is an immediate recognition in the mind and taste buds that those two things do seem to echo a similar sort of transcendent perfection. Each is a good and true and real expression of something essential – something that cannot be contrived – something that cannot be improved upon – something that simply is what it is.

Jesus’ familiar imagery of vine, branch and fruit suggests a similar essential quality to Christian fruitfulness. The divine source feeds each interdependent part and brings the faithful disciple to the full fruition of the life that is truly life.

This Annual Review offers a sense of the variety and abundance of the United Methodist witness in Missouri. Now entering its 48th year, the Missouri United Methodist Foundation continues to branch and twine and bear fruit. All is testimony to the vision and love of scores of faithful disciples – past and present – and the abiding love and prevenient grace of the living Lord.

Spring is just around the corner. Time to get those tomato seeds started!
