Bachelor’s degree holders earn an average of

$22,000 more per year than those with a high school diploma.

RACHEL Uecker Accounting major, Senior Green Bay, Wis.

“ I was led by some great mentors at the Lubar School of Business. Whether it was advice on how to approach an interview, how to form the right study group, or just how to balance work, school and life better, I have learned a lot. I remember a professor even told me to take a night off of studying, give my brain a rest, and do something fun the night before a final. That’s the sign of a professor who understands the importance of balance. ”

“ I chose UWM because of its diverse atmosphere as well as its location in Milwaukee. I’ve been active with several organizations, including the Latino Student Union, ever since day one, and I served as co-founder and president of UWM’s chapter of Hispanic Professionals of Greater Milwaukee. I’ve been able to network with Milwaukee’s finest professionals from all kinds of companies and agencies, as well as partake in many volunteer opportunities that helped stimulate the community.”

“ I’ve come across so many opportunities through our Career Development Center, including a paid internship at the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors. I worked with county supervisors on a variety of special projects, and upon ending the internship I was offered a job as a legislative aid. That’s been one of the best experiences I’ve had at UWM because I was able to apply the things I’ve learned in the classroom to real life, and it proved to be successful.”

“ The highlight of my experience at UWM has been connecting with a diverse group of people and being involved in the community. It is really important to get involved on campus and step outside of your comfort zone with meeting new people. That could mean joining a new organization or just talking to your classmates. If you feel like you’re part of a community, you’ll be happier and also more successful academically.”

“ UWM is very much a student-oriented campus. I have started my own student organization, participated in student government, and am even part of an entirely student-run initiative to bring TEDx to UWM. If you’re willing to work hard and show interest, there will be a way to make your ideas happen, and faculty willing to help make your dreams come true. My first semester on campus, I asked a professor if I could join his lab, and the professor said yes. That was really the first time I got integrated with a faculty member, and it’s been really great.”
