    About the Cape May County Technical SchoolThe Cape May County Technical School was instituted in 1915 by the Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders and is todaysituated on an 84-acre campus in the Northern section of the Crest Haven Complex (Middle Township) which is easily accessiblefrom Exit 11 off the Garden State Parkway.The Cape May County Technical School presently consists of one main building which includes the Tozour (100) Building, theScrivani (200) Building and the Toft (300) Building, as well as auxiliary buildings that include a greenhouse, the Broadley AdministrationBuilding, and water front facilities on the sound. Also, baseball, softball and soccer fields have been established on the campus.The districts educational divisions include a comprehensive high school, a share-time special needs high school vocational program,evening adult high school program, adult post secondary instruction, High School Equivalency testing, ABE/HSE/ESL instruction,as well as an Evening/Continuing Education Division program.The district is ready to serve the educational technical needs of the community well into the 21st century.

    Registered apprenticeship is aformalized training program that offersa combination of structured on-the-jobtraining and related technical instruc-tion for high skill occupations.The United States Department ofLabor, Office of Apprenticeshiprecognizes over 950 occupations asapprenticeable.Apprenticeships can last from one tosix years depending on the occupa-tion. During this time, the apprenticeworks and learns under the directionof experienced journey workers tobecome highly skilled in their chosenoccupation. As they gain skill, theyare compensated through an increasein wages. Full-time employment in anapprenticeable occupation is required

    prior to registration and the em-ployer must be willing to sponsorthe apprentices on-the-job trainingwhich is outlined by a formal workprocess to ensure that the appren-tice is trained in the full range ofskills required for the field.CMCTS currently is offering the 3rdyear of a 4-year program of relatedtraining instruction for a ResidentialPlumbing Apprenticeship thatfollows the PHCC curriculum.Participants also take the PHCCNOCTI Exam at the end of eachyear and receive a PHCC certificateof achievement upon passing.Additional related training instructionprograms may be added withsufficient enrollment interest.Related training programs offered atCMCTS generally meet two eve-nings per week, September throughApril.Please call for additional informationabout apprenticeship and relatedtraining instruction at CMCTS.   • 6BLACK SEAL LICENSE VThis course prepares a student for the Black Seal License ex-amination including high and low pressure boiler operations,starting from the very basics of boiler operator mechanics. Pleasenote: this is a 12-week course that will address all aspects ofBlack Seal boiler operations. To be eligible for the Black SealLicense examination, the applicant must have had at least threemonths experience as a helper, apprentice or assistant to a li-censed fireman in charge.     BOATERS SAFETY CERTIFICATION VState approved, five night course. Students will be instructed in the State of New Jersey DentalRadiology curriculum and will be required to complete a clinical affili-ation at a dental office or offices. To complete this program and qualifyfor the licensing examination, a student must accumulate 45 hours ofclassroom instruction (25 hours didactic & 20 hours laboratory) andclinical education as per NJ Department of Environmental Protectionrequirements.     ServSafe SANITATION CERTIFICATION COURSE VThe State of New Jersey mandates one person on premises of a foodservice establishment must have sanitation certification. ServSafeleads the way in providing the restaurant and food service industrywith an up-to-date, comprehensive food safety training and certifica-tion program. This nine-session certification course culminates withthe participants completing the ServSafe examination on the last nightof class. Participants with a passing grade will receive the nationallyrecognized ServSafe certification. Who should take this course? Some areas to be covered include: setting and ad-justing doors, windows and locks; the installation of tile, grout, flatcement, siding, roofing, trim; replacing plumbing fixtures; screening,caulking, sheetrocking and some general painting tips.     OUTBOARD MOTOR MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR VThis course is for the average boater who wants to know more abouttheir engine.     The admission philosophy providesinterested applicants an opportunity toenroll in the occupational program oftheir choice if they meet the minimumrequirements of their enrollment area.Upon successful completion of thepost-secondary program, the studentwill receive a certificate of programcompletion.     The HSE, formerly known as the GED, sets a new standard for obtaining a NJ State Issued High School Diploma. The HSE-TASC is adminis-tered at the Cape May County Technical School and assesses five subject areas including Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, and SocialStudents. The Cape May County Technical School offers the TASC in two formats: paper/pencil and online. Preparation classes are also avail-able and are free of charge.

    Examinees must receive a minimum score of 500 in all five sections to be issued a New Jersey High School Diploma by the NJ Department ofEducation. The Cape May County Technical School hosts an Annual High School Diploma Recognition Ceremony to honor students who havesuccessfully passed the HSE and earned their diploma.

    HSE TEST Eligibility Criteria Must be a resident of New Jersey Not currently enrolled in an accredited high school At least 16 years of age**Candidates under the age of 18 must complete and submit a Certificate of Non-Enrollment form which can be obtained from their last schoolof record. A form can also be obtained from the Cape May County Adult Education Office, Rm. # 145. Candidates that are 16 or 17 years oldmust be accompanied by a parent or guardian (with proper ID) at registration.

    Recent Changes to GED TestThe State of NJ has changed the testing requirements for a state issued high school diploma, formerly known as the GED. The testingis now called the HSE which stands for High School Equivalency. The change was initiated to meet the new High School CoreCurriculum Standards.Although all GED state issued diplomas issued before 2014 are valid, all scores for the GED taken previous to 2014 have expiredfor those who did not pass the full battery required to receive a diploma.There are now three state approved versions of the HSE. The Cape May County Technical School is administering the McGraw-HillTASC (Test Assessing Secondary Completion). Passing any version of the HSE will qualify the examinee for the state issued highschool diploma and open doors to college entrance and better job opportunities.Please be aware of fraudulent websites offering home-based online testing for a fee.     The Evening Adult High School program at theCape May County Technical School providesNew Jersey residents, 17 years of age or olderand no longer enrolled in high school, an op-portunity to complete the necessary credits re-quired to earn a standard high school diploma.

    Our Adult High School program offers studentsthe opportunity to complete their high schoolrequirements on a competency based programschedule. This allows students an opportunityto complete course work at their own pace. Stu-dents often complete courses faster than in atraditional program, however the maximum timeallowed to complete a course is two years.

    Students will be required to invest significanttime at home to complete independent studyand are expected to come to class as sched-uled. Students are required to meet New Jer-sey state graduation course credit and testingrequirements to be eligible for a high schooldiploma.

    The program is in session from Septemberthrough May, on a two semester format, andclasses are held on Tuesday, Wednesday andThursday evenings from 6:00pm to 8:00pm withthree class periods scheduled on each night.Students may also be scheduled for a state test-ing prep period from 5:15 to 6:00pm, if neces-sary. Students are ideally scheduled for at leasttwo of the three nights the program is in ses-sion to take maximum advantage of programofferings.
